* test: move offline proxy auth, guardrail hook, spend, budget reset, GCS payload and pass-through tests into tests/unit
Relocate 53 legacy tests that pass with no network or keys into the tests/unit
files that mirror the code they exercise, drop 2 llm_guard tests already covered
by test_llm_guard_call_type_aliases, and delete the emptied legacy files.
* test: freeze the reset clock and run the real reset methods in the moved budget reset tests
Pin datetime in reset_budget_job and timezone_utils to a fixed instant and await
the service-hook tasks the job spawns instead of sleeping. Drive the per-user
failure with a malformed budget_duration row from the prisma mock so the real
_reset_budget_for_key/user/team run instead of patched replacements.
* test: use fixed timestamps in the moved pass-through and spend log tests
* test: mock the moderation HTTP call and type the moved moderation and spend log tests
Serve the OpenAI moderation response through an httpx MockTransport so the real
async_make_request runs, annotate the moved tests' locals with Final, and pass
get_logging_payload typed kwargs instead of an untyped input_args dict.
* test: drive the moved proxy tests through boundaries and annotate their locals with Final
Serve GCS downloads and the Router moderation call through httpx mocks with fake
Google credentials, let the real pass-through success handler fail on the mocked
upstream response, and fold the Vertex live route endpoint check into the existing
route test. Annotate moved locals with Final, build the budget reset rows without
rebinding, and type the remaining fakes without **kwargs
* test: make legacy live tests in spend, batches, openai endpoints and audio dirs offline (partial)
* test: migrate wave-1b live tests offline (guardrails, images, ocr, search, openai endpoints)
* test: fix wave-1b review items, add responses/ocr integration tests and firecrawl unit test
* test: anthropic messages router/bedrock/openai-bridge unit tests for wave-1b nodes
* test: anthropic messages logging, prompt-caching and tool-search unit tests; drop migrated base nodes
* test: finish pass_through_unit_tests nodes, logging drain fix and mutations
* test: migrate anthropic passthrough tests to integration wire tests
* test: fix passthrough migration wire spend row lookup and wildcard config
* test: migrate hosted vllm and openai file passthrough tests offline
* test: move assemblyai and vertex passthrough nodes to in-process unit tests
* test: restore unlisted router node and fix logging worker drain in passthrough unit tests
* test: drop spend-row BUG skip and sharpen non-streaming skip reason for anthropic messages
* test: use public presidio alias after merge
Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com>
* test: restore the batch and file unit tests the migration rewrote away
* test: restore full legacy intent in anthropic messages router unit tests
Drop the false BUG skip on non-streaming aanthropic_messages logging (success
callbacks do fire; the skipped body filtered on the wrong model), assert the
logged model_group, messages, cost and usage, cover streaming logging for both
Anthropic and Bedrock invoke, assert dict content blocks for Anthropic, Bedrock
invoke and the OpenAI bridge, add the Bedrock invoke leg of the router test,
fall back from a real 401, test system-prompt caching and streaming
message_start cache fields on converse and invoke, send the legacy tool-search
tools and beta header, remove the type: ignore and bare dict helper, and add
in-process native /anthropic passthrough spend logging tests
* test: fix passthrough migration wire tests and drop false native spend BUG skip
The native spend row test read rows by the shared master-key digest, so it
matched other tests' rows; read each row by its own message id instead and
assert tokens, total, spend, tags, provider, api_base and end_user on both the
non-streaming and streaming native routes. Merge the streaming test that never
checked spend, assert exact tags from litellm_metadata, stop rebinding a Final
in a loop, require cost > 0, and add the chat-completions bridge cost case the
legacy test covered
* test: harden the spend, OCR, image, search and guardrail migration replacements
The OCR spend tests now build fresh kwargs per case instead of mutating a
shared fixture, and every payload case asserts the exact logged spend. The
OCR wire test reads its spend row by request id and checks exact page
pricing. Image edit, Nova Canvas, DuckDuckGo, Firecrawl, Bedrock guardrail
and Presidio replacements now fake only the provider HTTP boundary (respx or
an in-process aiohttp server) and assert the outbound request, so the
DuckDuckGo limit, Azure base_model pricing and guardrail masking are proven
rather than assumed
* test: cover Exa and Perplexity search structure and max_results offline and retire the two base search methods
* test: drive batch and file replacements through the provider HTTP boundary and real logging callback
Replace monkeypatched litellm.afile_content and AsyncHTTPHandler doubles with respx routes,
read batch logging metadata from a registered success callback instead of get_logging_payload,
use the real managed-files hook for the GEN-2166 regression, assert outbound request bodies,
pin poller ownership explicitly in the migrated DB-sync tests, and require the scripted
upstream to be hit in the responses error-status wire tests
* test: assert file content download headers pass through the proxy
* test: point spend coverage references at the tests that replaced the retired spend job
* test: assert passthrough identity, spend and route dispatch from the code under test
The AssemblyAI non-admin test asserted metadata it wrote itself and leaked a
background poll to the real AssemblyAI host. It now drives assemblyai_proxy_route
with a real Request and waits for the success callback for its own transcript id.
The Vertex spend test matches its log by call id instead of taking the first event.
The OpenAI files wire test hit the native /{provider}/v1/files route; it now calls
/openai/files so the passthrough is what forwards the upload and delete.
* test: mock only the HTTP boundary in the migrated audio tests
Vertex TTS tests no longer replace _ensure_access_token or AsyncHTTPHandler.post;
the token comes from a mocked Google OAuth endpoint and the synthesize call from
respx. Speech tests assert the outbound body, the transcription cache test polls
for the cache write instead of relying on test ordering, and the model pass-through
test checks the multipart model field per model.
* test: wait on a logger event instead of polling the clock in anthropic messages unit tests
Recorders keep payloads in a rebound tuple and set an asyncio.Event; tests
await it with asyncio.wait_for instead of a sleep-and-deadline poll loop
* test: freeze module-level batch and file response fixtures as Final MappingProxyType
* test: fake the presidio analyzer with an in-memory aiohttp connector
The blocked-entity tests started an aiohttp TestServer, which binds a local
socket. They now hand the guardrail a ClientSession whose connector answers
/analyze and /anonymize in process, so no socket is opened and the outbound
analyze text and entities are still asserted
* test: type anthropic messages router test helpers with LiteLLM's Anthropic TypedDicts
Messages, cached system blocks and tool-search tools now use
AnthropicMessagesUserMessageParam, AnthropicMessagesTextParam,
AnthropicToolSearchToolRegex and AnthropicMessagesTool instead of bare
dict shapes; tools are converted to plain dicts only at the acreate call,
whose tools parameter is list[dict]
* test: type batch limiter helpers with TypedDicts and wait on the logging callback event instead of polling
* test: give the migrated OCR, image and presidio helpers precise types
OCR spend helpers take ReadOnly TypedDicts for kwargs and responses and use
LiteLLM's OCRResponse/OCRUsageInfo instead of local pydantic stand-ins; spend
metadata is validated with a TypeAdapter. The presidio fake uses LiteLLM's
PresidioAnalyzeRequest/ResponseItem types, and the image-edit logger validates
the logged payload instead of storing an untyped dict
* test: signal callback and cache events instead of polling
Recorders keep tuples and set an asyncio.Event, thread-safely, when the payload
for this test's transcript id or upstream URL arrives. The transcription cache
test waits on a Cache subclass that signals after async_add_cache. No clock
polling or sleeps remain in these tests.
* test: assert the batch limiter hook updates the caller's request in place
* test: tolerate model-list probes and read native passthrough rows by owned key
The router's OpenAI-compatible model-info refresh (litellm/router.py:10710)
sends GET /v1/models to configured openai api_bases, so the wire answers it
with an empty list and excludes it from the provider-call assertions. Native
/anthropic spend rows are now read by a per-request virtual key digest and
call_type, then the row's request_id is checked against the message id
* test: expect the OCR alias in the proxy response model
The proxy restamps every OpenAI-compatible response model to the name the
client requested (_override_openai_response_model), so /v1/ocr returns the
scenario alias. The upstream model is now checked on the drained request body
instead of inside the peer, where a failed assert never reached the test

* test(e2e): add enum values, auto-discovering label gates and secret hiding for e2e metadata
* test(e2e): tag quota_management tests with Subject metadata and record budget client steps
* docs(e2e): name every markerless harness test file that carries no Subject
* test(e2e): keep the step discovery comprehensions to one for clause
* test(ci): add used_client_oauth_token to the GCS pub/sub spend-log golden
#43063 stamps used_client_oauth_token into spend-log metadata, so
test_async_gcs_pub_sub_v1 failed on main with an extra metadata key
* test(ui): give the auto-router threshold save wait room for the availability debounce
#42625 keeps Save disabled while a 300ms-debounced availability check runs.
This test waits for Save right after the change, so the whole debounce lands
inside waitFor's 1s default and it times out under CI load. It is the
recurring UI Unit Tests failure on main since #42625 landed
* test(e2e): expect no pricing tier on bills for streamed calls OpenAI served at default
#42870 added both the rule that a served default or standard tier bills at
base pricing and records no service_tier, and streamed tests expecting the
row to record 'default'. They have failed on every scheduled litellm-e2e run
since. The tests now map the served tier to the pricing basis the bill must
record and check input is billed at that basis's rate; the messages case
registers custom rates so the rate check has something to compare against
* test(e2e-ui): wait for the call-id search before hovering the logs row
The row the spec hovers is already on the unfiltered first page, so it was
found before the search request returned. The search response then
re-rendered the table under the mouse, and the Base UI tooltip never opened.
Reproduced with Playwright against a local proxy: hovering right after the
fill never shows the tooltip, hovering after the search response shows the
call id every time
* test(e2e): run the Together structured-output case on the hybrid Qwen with reasoning off
The case picked the cheapest Together row flagged supports_response_schema.
DeepSeek-V4-Flash-0731 hit its cost-map deprecation date on 2026-09-29, so the
pick moved to GLM-5.3-Flash, a reasoning-only model that spends the 1024-token
budget thinking and returns content=None. Qwen3.5-9B is the pinned hybrid model
the reasoning_effort=none case already exercises, and Together lists it with
structured output support
* test(integration): read the agent 365 guardrail status by its own name in spend logs
The MCP shard runs under xdist against one database, and a sibling file creates a
default_on pre_mcp_call content filter there. The owned proxy reloads DB guardrails, so
that filter's 'success' entry could land first in guardrail_information and the test
read it instead of the agent 365 verdict
* test(unit): ignore asyncio's leaked-task records in the budget limiter push-failure log check
gc.collect() inside the caplog window can collect a pending task an earlier test left
on a closed loop, and asyncio logs 'Task was destroyed but it is pending' into this
test's records. The check still counts every LiteLLM logger, and unretrieved task
exceptions on this loop still go through the asserted exception handler
* test(e2e-ui): fill the create-tag fields inside the dialog
#42949 added 'Filter by tag name' and 'Filter by description' inputs to the Tag
Management page, so page-wide getByLabel('Tag Name') and getByLabel('Description')
match two elements and Playwright's strict mode fails the create step
* test(integration): run integration proxies with the CI license
Multi-worker proxies start each uvicorn worker in a fresh process, so every
worker reads the license from its environment. Forward LITELLM_LICENSE into the
proxy and test runner environments
* ci: save GitHub Actions caches only from main and bump codecov-action to 5.5.5
Every pull request saved its own uv, maturin, Rust and Prisma caches, about
4.5 GB per PR, so the repository's 10 GB cache budget evicted main's entries
within minutes. Pull request jobs then missed every cache, downloaded all
dependencies from PyPI and hit the install step timeouts. Pull requests now
restore only, and main keeps the caches warm for them. test-linting and
check-ui-api-types run only on pull requests and keep saving
codecov-action 5.5.4 imports its signing key from the deleted codecovsecurity
keybase account, so every upload failed signature verification. 5.5.5 reads it
from codecovsecops; the key ID matches the one signing the current CLI
* test(unit): join the session-minting thread before collecting the handler
asyncio.to_thread resumes the test as soon as the worker sets its result,
while the pool thread can still hold the work item and through it the
handler. gc.collect() then cannot finalize the handler and the session stays
open. A pool that shuts down before the test continues drops that reference
* test(integration): relaunch owned proxies that lose their port, expire idle gateway connections early
owned_proxy_process released its reserved port and the proxy bound it only
after full startup, so another xdist worker or an outgoing connection could
take it first and the proxy exited with 'address already in use'. The launch
now retries on a fresh port when that happens and stops every failed attempt.
uvicorn closes idle keep-alive connections after 5 seconds and httpx expired
them at the same 5 seconds, so a request sent right at that mark could reuse a
socket the server was closing and get 'Connection reset by peer'. Gateway
clients now drop idle connections after 2 seconds
* ci(circleci): give the base SDK wheel build the same 30 minute no-output window as the Windows build
The release profile builds with fat LTO and one codegen unit, so the final
link of litellm-cache-s3 runs silently for minutes. Successful builds take
711 to 749 seconds, right at the default 10 minute no-output limit, and about
30% of recent runs were killed there
* test(integration): model the budget-reset database outage as 10 seconds instead of 5 refused connections
The proxy retries the database about every 30 seconds and each retry opens
roughly one connection, so a 5-connection outage took 3 to 4 retries to clear
and recovery landed between 60 and 90 seconds, straddling the test's 80 second
reset window. A fixed 10 second outage still refuses the immediate reconnect
and recovers on the next retry
* ci: move the unit-test uv cache split into a composite action
check_workflow_startup_safety sums every setup step's timeout, so the save and
restore variants each counted 5 minutes although only one runs. One composite
step keeps the setup ceiling at 35 minutes
* test(unit): point tiktoken at the bundled cache for every unit test
The rust_bridge tokenizer tests loaded o200k_base before any test in their
xdist worker had imported default_encoding, so tiktoken fell back to the
temp cache and tried to download under pytest-socket. Move the session
fixture from litellm_core_utils/conftest.py to the root unit conftest.
* test(integration): answer model discovery probes in the hosted_vllm wire tests
The router's periodic upstream model info refresh sends GET /v1/models to
hosted_vllm deployments, so a wire server that is live during a refresh
sees an extra request. Answer the probe with an empty model list and leave
it out of the provider-call assertions, matching the responses bridge
tests.
* feat(e2e): give e2e tests typed metadata for what they drive
@meta(Subject(domain, route, providers, models, capabilities, mode)) declares
what a test is about with closed enums, and each field lands in the JUnit report
as a property. The quota_management suites are the first to declare it.
* docs(e2e): say e2e_metadata avoids litellm, not that it is stdlib-only
It already imports pydantic and pytest, both of which the suite needs to collect. The rule that matters is no litellm import
* test(e2e): declare models through the constant each test drives
43 @meta declarations in quota_management typed the model name out again, so changing the call would leave the coverage report naming the old model. Each file now has one constant used by both, and a guard fails on any model written as a string literal in @meta
* refactor(e2e): set route only when the endpoint is what the test checks
A budget or rate-limit test whose chat call only triggers the block now leaves route unset, since its steps already name the call. Tests of an endpoint keep it: budget CRUD, key creation, spend reporting reads, and the per-endpoint spend tests for chat, messages, embeddings, batches and health. The two /spend/logs tests tagged chat_completions are now spend_reporting
* refactor(e2e): build the declared properties without mutating a list
subject_properties seeded a list and grew it with append and extend. It now flattens one tuple per field, and the plural-name table is a read-only mapping
* fix(e2e): tag each spend-route probe with the endpoint it checks
The breadth test gave all 33 probes spend_reporting, so /key/list, /user/list, /team/list, /organization/list and /customer/list counted as spend reporting. Each case now carries its own route, with organization and customer management added to Route
* feat(e2e): record each e2e test's steps, starting with ProxyClient
@step on a harness method records a plain-English line for every call, in
order, as repeated JUnit step properties. Labels are templates filled from the
call's parameters, like "Generate a virtual key with models: claude-haiku-4-5
and rpm limit: 3", and secret request fields are marked Field(repr=False) so
they never print. ProxyClient and the rate-limit QuotaClient carry steps first;
the other harnesses follow one area at a time. The recorder and JUnit tests run
in the Code Quality workflow's test_e2e_metadata step.
* docs(e2e): rewrite the recorded test steps guide in plain language
* fix(e2e): keep logging callback credentials out of recorded steps
* fix(e2e): mask the run's credentials in every recorded step
* fix(e2e): attach steps before the oauth failure snapshot
The failed setup or call report of an mcp_oauth_live test copied user_properties before the steps were attached, so it carried no steps. Every setup and call report now takes its properties after the steps attach
* fix(e2e): name the saved credential in its recorded step
The create_credential label read credential_info, which defaults to {} and is never set by the live callers, so the step printed nothing after 'for'. It now reads the required credential_name, and a guard fails on any label that reads a field with a default

* fix(ci): stop five stale or flaky CI reds and retry CyberArk policy-load conflicts
The Langfuse redaction unit test exports to a local OTLP capture instead of
polling Langfuse Cloud through a recorded lookup. The passthrough worker-kill
test only requires spend rows for requests the surviving worker served. The
spend-routes sweep treats the intentional /spend/capture_rate 503 as expected.
CyberArk retries a 409 policy load in Python, Rust and the e2e Conjur helper
instead of reading it as "variable exists". The integration egress guard now
matches the script's own cgroup, so it no longer blocks the CircleCI agent,
which runs as the same user.
* fix(ci): keep the policy-load backoff typed as float
* fix(ci): retry CyberArk policy loads without blocking the event loop and tighten the worker-kill and Langfuse tests
* fix(secrets): load CyberArk policy one request at a time per manager
* test(secrets): pin that non-conflict CyberArk policy failures are not retried
* test(unit): run tests/unit with only an allowlisted host environment
CircleCI's unit job inherits every project env var, so real provider keys,
REDIS_HOST, DATABASE_URL and AWS or Azure credentials reached tests that
assume none are set. Locally, litellm's import-time load_dotenv did the same
from any .env up the tree. The unit conftest now drops every variable outside
a small allowlist and disables dotenv before litellm is imported.
* test(e2e): name a failed search and the stuck batch status instead of misattributing them
The websearch session test read an empty web_search_tool_result_error block as a
successful search, so a failing search tool surfaced as a session billing bug.
The batch cancellation timeout now reports the last status the proxy returned.
* fix(ci): scrub the host environment per unit test instead of for the whole pytest process
GHA shards run tests/unit next to other suites in one process, so the import-time
scrub deleted MCP_TEST_PEER_PYTHON before tests/mcp_tests read it and the MCP
upstream fell back to the SDK2 interpreter. The two websearch tests that called
OpenAI and Perplexity live are removed: tests/unit no longer sees their keys.
* fix(ci): scrub only the host variables present before litellm is imported
The per-test scrub also deleted TIKTOKEN_CACHE_DIR, which litellm sets at import to
its bundled encodings, so tokenizer paths tried to download them and hit the
socket guard. The prisma setup test now passes its own database URL instead of
reading one another test leaked into the process environment.
* fix(ci): stop the order-dependent unit reds and settle logging tasks on their own queue
LoggingWorker marked a task done on whichever queue was current when the callback
finished, so a callback that outlived an event-loop change raised "task_done()
called too many times" or undercounted the new loop's queue. It now settles the
queue the task came from.
The rest are test isolation fixes for failures that only appeared when another
file ran first on the same xdist worker: a replaced user_api_key_cache, breaker
metrics unregistered by prometheus tests, semantic_router's health-check filter on
uvicorn.access, logging tasks carried over from bedrock tests, a Router-written
model_cost entry, and a stray post captured by the langflow test. The token
counter check now asserts bounded chunking instead of wall-clock time.
* test(e2e/ui): wait for the logout redirect before visiting a protected page
Logout revokes the session server-side before clearing cookies and navigating, so an immediate page.goto either ran with the cookie still set or was aborted by the logout redirect (net::ERR_ABORTED).
* test(unit): restore the prometheus metrics config per test and settle logs carried from earlier tests in the a2a cost tests
* test(router): pin the router clock in the usage counter tests so a minute rollover cannot empty the read
* test(e2e/ui): wait for logout to clear the token cookie instead of for a login redirect
* test(integration/mcp): answer the model-info probe another test's proxy sends to the model double
* test(e2e): pin end-user and tag attribution from Codex-style headers on /v1/responses
Codex CLI has no body field for the end user, so its config.toml
http_headers attach x-litellm-customer-id or x-litellm-end-user-id plus
x-litellm-tags to every /v1/responses call. The proxy already honors
those headers on the Responses route, but nothing in the e2e stack
pinned it. The new case sends that exact wire shape with each standard
customer header and fails unless the spend row carries the end user,
the tags, the aresponses call type, and a nonzero cost.
* test(e2e): assert the customer's /customer/info total matches the header-attributed Responses row

* fix(proxy): keep pre-call rejections out of deployment cooldown and prometheus deployment state
Stamp model_info only into the logging metadata so the router's failure callbacks do not

* fix(prometheus): flag pre-routing rejects instead of matching exception names
Post-call GuardrailRaisedException failures kept their deployment labels on main but lost them
on this branch because every GuardrailRaisedException was treated as a pre-routing reject.
The proxy failure path now flags litellm_params with proxy_rejected_before_routing only when
it adds deployment attribution itself, and the Prometheus logger keys deployment selection
off that flag
Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com>
* fix(proxy): key pre-routing reject flag off provider handoff, not caller metadata
Caller-supplied metadata.model_info (kept for keys allowed to override pricing) no longer
suppresses proxy_rejected_before_routing. The hook now checks the logging object's
first_api_call_start_time, which only the provider handoff sets, so Prometheus never
records a deployment failure for a request that was rejected before routing.

* test(e2e): one request lands the same spend on every surface
One priced chat request must show the same response_cost on the spend log row, /key/info, /team/info, the usage export's /user/daily/activity/aggregated row, and the litellm_spend_metric Prometheus sample; each is a separate writer, so the test fails naming the surface that drifted

* fix(proxy): share model rate-limit buckets between a model_group_alias and its target
A request sent under a model_group_alias counted in its own per-key, per-team,
per-org, and per-project model bucket, so a key could double a deployment's
default_api_key_rpm_limit / tpm_limit by alternating the alias and the model
group name, and a metadata model_rpm_limit / model_tpm_limit keyed by the
model group never applied to alias requests. The limiter now resolves the
requested name to its model group before keying any model bucket, looks the
limit up by the requested name first and the model group second, and charges
post-call tokens to the same bucket.
* fix(proxy): charge the model group resolved at admission when reconciling reserved tokens

Use contextlib.suppress for the cancelled task in stop_view_setup_task, make the legacy prisma setup test inject a plain mock for the synchronous start_view_setup_task and assert it is called, and drop the docstrings the branch added to tests
On a fresh database where the migrations run in a separate job while the
proxy boots with DISABLE_SCHEMA_UPDATE=true, the startup view check ran
as a fire-and-forget task, used up its three 10 second retries before
LiteLLM_SpendLogs existed, and died with an unretrieved exception. The
spend views were never created, so the /global/spend routes returned 500
until the pod was restarted
PrismaClient now holds a view setup task. It polls to_regclass for the
spend-log table every 5 seconds, creates the views and loads the spend
log row count once the table is there, keeps polling if an attempt raises
while the schema is still settling, and logs an ERROR with the last
failure if nothing worked after 15 minutes. Proxy shutdown cancels the
task
The spend route e2e tests for the five view-backed routes are no longer
skipped and wait for the views through the harness convergence helper
_PROXY_MaxBudgetLimiter re-checked spend:user:{id} against user_max_budget in
async_pre_call_hook without the zero-cost model exemption that
_user_max_budget_check applies in auth, so free models were rejected with
"Max budget limit reached." once a user was over budget. Auth already owns
this check, so the hook is deleted rather than taught the exemption again

The first cache-enabled litellm-e2e build (211) showed three gaps in the shared provider cache:
Every OpenAI response carries Cloudflare bot-management Set-Cookie headers, and the capture rejected any response with Set-Cookie, so no OpenAI response was ever recorded (179 of 372 misses rejected). The edge already withholds Set-Cookie from the proxy, so drop it before validating and storing instead of rejecting.
The provider prompt-caching tests need fresh provider state: a replayed priming response reports cache creation rather than a cache read, and the TPM test then trips the key limit. Mark both modules provider_live.
TestApiBaseSeam::test_live_mode_returns_none ran inside the cache-enabled runner and saw the shared edge; isolate it from E2E_PROVIDER_CACHE.
The failed-batch redesign left list_batches, BatchList, BatchListQuery and
the batch object's metadata and created_at fields with no caller, and they
duplicated the batches suite's own client. delete_user discarded its result,
so a user that outlived the class fixture went unnoticed; unwrap turns that
into a teardown error like delete_key already does.
The retrieve writer and the CheckBatchCost poller are two different spend
writers, and the in-run failed batch only proves the first. Split the
key_attribution batch cell in two: retrieve_batch_cost_joins_retrieving_key,
which test_terminal_batch_cost_row_joins_the_retrieving_key claims, and
poller_batch_cost_joins_creating_key, which no test claims yet and so shows
up on the coverage dashboard as a P1 gap instead of hiding behind the
retrieve leg. The rationale records why one run cannot hand the poller a
completed batch on a stack that boots a fresh Postgres per build.
The batch list is served from LiteLLM_ManagedObjectTable whenever the managed
files hook is loaded, and the Buildkite e2e stacks bundle a fresh Postgres per
build, so a prior run's marker batch is never listed and the baton could only
ever pass vacuously. Each run now creates a batch OpenAI fails at validation
within seconds, retrieves it by its raw provider id with the same key until it
is failed, and asserts the {provider_batch_id}_batch_cost row that retrieve
writes joins the key's token hash and alias
The completed marker batch is now retrieved by its raw provider id with this
run's key, so the proxy prices it inline and the {provider_batch_id}_batch_cost
row must join that key's token and alias. The CheckBatchCost poller only bills
batches it created in the same database, which a stack booted fresh per run
never holds for a completed marker, so the old unified-id assertion had no row
to find. Every run also replays one callback log through
POST /v1/rust_control_plane/logs, the third spend writer, and asserts its row
joins the key like the eight request paths
One aliased key owned by a user with an email drives chat, queued chat,
messages, responses, embeddings, the Gemini passthrough, a batch file upload,
and a batch create against a live proxy. Each row must carry api_key equal to
the key's LiteLLM_VerificationToken.token and the alias in metadata, and
/spend/logs?api_key= and /user/daily/activity must report the key with its
alias and email. Health-check rows must keep the literal service-account key,
and the batch cost row for a completed marker batch must join the key that
created it. A re-hashed api_key (the v1.99.0 regression fixed by #39568 and
#39572) now fails the Buildkite e2e stage naming the write path
Resolves MAT-180
Four cases in tests/e2e/quota_management/budgets, driving real OpenAI calls
through a group whose shared pool is drained to exhaustion: the spender key
stays blocked, a key that spent nothing of its own is blocked by the same
pool, a sibling group with no budget keeps serving, and the budget read
reports the spend drawn against the group.
Adds set/get/delete access group budget to BudgetClient and the four
matching rows to the coverage registry.
litellm-e2e-ui 68 failed the test this PR was meant to stabilise: "fallback
never took effect", streak 4 of a required 5, 60s timeout. Requiring a
consecutive streak of 200s after the fallback is set was wrong. It asserts that
the fallback path succeeds five times running, which is a reliability claim the
test never intended to make, and the path is inherently retry-ish because the
broken primary is attempted first on every call. One intermittent non-200
resets the streak, so a mostly-working fallback never converges.
The two directions are not symmetric:
before the write proving NO replica serves it -> needs every replica
after the write proving the fallback serves it -> one success is the claim
So the control keeps a multi-sample window and the success assertion goes back
to polling for a first sighting, on the wider 60s budget rather than the
original 30s that expired on litellm-e2e-ui 63.
Also drops the two local rebinds Greptile flagged against the repo's
no-reassignment convention: the streak counter is gone with the helper it lived
in, and the cache-round loop is now a lazy generator consumed by next().
Two e2e tests fail on timing rather than on litellm behaviour. Measured over the
last ~35 litellm-e2e / litellm-e2e-ui runs:
routerSettings.spec.ts:254 9/35 runs (7 flaky-on-retry, 2 hard failures)
test_cost_headers_e2e.py 1/29 runs it appeared in
Router fallback control
-----------------------
The e2e stack runs replicaCount 2 with proxy_config_reload_interval_seconds 7,
and every request is routed independently, so an observation of the new config
only proves the replica that served it reloaded. patchRouterSettings returns as
soon as /config/update returns, and clearBrokenFallback never waits at all, so a
retry's one-shot control assertion could be answered by a sibling replica still
holding the previous attempt's fallback. That is exactly the observed pair of
errors: "fallback never took effect" on the first attempt and "broken primary
unexpectedly succeeded on its own" on the retry.
Both assertions now poll for a consecutive streak spanning more than one reload
cycle, mirroring the PROPAGATION_TIMEOUT / settle_propagation doctrine the Python
suite already applies in e2e_config.py.
Cost-header cache read
----------------------
The prime and measure calls fired back to back with no gap, and each retry threw
away the prefix it had just paid to prime in favour of a fresh one. OpenAI
publishes a primed prefix asynchronously and routes cache lookups by
prompt_cache_key, so the test was rerolling the least likely path to a hit.
Each round now pins a prompt_cache_key and re-reads the same primed prefix up to
CACHE_REREADS times before rotating, so a fresh prefix is spent only after the
primed one has genuinely failed to become readable.
No production code changes; prompt_cache_key is added to the e2e ChatBody model,
which serializes exclude_none and so is inert for every other caller.
Adds a scheduled GitHub Actions lane on top of the merged record/replay
transport. A Saturday cron records the `replayable` e2e tests against the
real providers and publishes the fixture bundle as a private
`e2e-fixtures-bundle` artifact with a SHA-256 sidecar. Weekday crons pull
that artifact by its pinned digest, verify the checksum before extracting,
and replay it with provider credentials set to bogus values, so a run that
ever reached a real provider fails instead of passing.
An egress sentinel pins the provider hostnames to a local sink for the whole
replay job and counts every connection that reaches them; the job asserts
that count is zero, so hermeticity is proven by measurement. A red Saturday
publishes no bundle, so the next weekday finds nothing fresh and fails loudly
rather than replaying a week-old recording, and the transport's seven-day
freshness gate hard-fails any bundle that has drifted too far. The lane also
runs on demand from the Actions tab with a record/replay `mode` input.
Tests join the lane with `@pytest.mark.replayable`. The streaming Anthropic
test now counts to twenty so its recorded response banks several content
deltas, matching the assertion that the stream arrives incrementally.
* test(e2e): send no-cache on every cacheable request body, opt in only where a hit is the assertion
The e2e proxy runs with the response cache on, so any test that re-sends an
identical chat, messages, responses, completions, embeddings or rerank body
reads back a redis copy of an earlier call instead of reaching the provider.
Five tests in the last week failed that way. Default cache: {"no-cache": true}
on those request models and pass cache=None only in the two tests whose
assertion is the cache hit itself.
* test(e2e): give image edits and OCR a 180s client timeout
Both routes wait on providers that can legitimately take longer than the
60s transport-wide request timeout (gpt-image edits, Azure Document
Intelligence), and a client-side read timeout there fails a green request.
post/upload now accept a per-call timeout like get already does; only those
two call sites use it.
* test(e2e): rerun once on network errors and upstream 5xx only
Assertion failures still fail on the first attempt; only an outcome whose
error string carries the e2e_http network kind or a 5xx status gets one
more try. Test Engine records every attempt, so the flake rate stays
visible while a single provider blip no longer reds the rc run.
* test(e2e): let the reseed burst survive one upstream failure and print why
The burst is the precondition, not the property: one 5xx among six
concurrent calls still leaves five workers racing the cold counter, which
is what the reseed assertion measures. Two or more failures still abort,
and the failing bodies are now in the message instead of only the status
codes.
* test(e2e): keep polling Jaeger through a transient query failure
poll_traces_for_call already waits up to POLL_TIMEOUT for spans to land,
but a single refused connection to the query API failed the test on the
spot. Jaeger restarted twice during today's gate runs (19:05 and 19:41
UTC, each under a minute) and took ten and three otel tests with it while
the same tests passed on the rc build minutes later. A network failure
now counts as not-yet inside the same deadline; if Jaeger is still
unreachable when the deadline passes the test fails with that error, and
any non-network failure still fails immediately.
`assert False` inside a `try:` raises AssertionError, which the `except
Exception` right below it catches, so several tests reported green no matter
what the code did. `pytest.fail` raises Failed, a BaseException, and escapes.
A bare `a == b` statement is evaluated and discarded. Nine of those sat in
tests, and one was comparing against a model name the router never produces.
Selects B011, B015, B018, PT015, PLR0133 and PLW0127 in ruff-tests.toml
alongside F821, with all 50 existing violations fixed, so no budget file or
ratchet is needed. CI already runs this config over tests/.
The two tests that assert on reasoning cost read reasoning_tokens off the
response and required it to be nonzero, without ever asking the model to
reason. Both now send reasoning_effort, so the assertion rests on a
parameter the test sets rather than on the model's default behavior.
The cache-breakdown test sends it on its prime call too: OpenAI's prefix
cache keys on the reasoning setting as well as the tokens, so priming at
a different effort never produces a read.
The final streaming usage frame only carries usage.cost when the proxy runs
with litellm_settings.include_cost_in_streaming_usage: true, and that flag is
readable only off the module-level litellm setting. There is no header, key,
or management route that turns it on per request, so a test cannot ask the
shared e2e proxy for it, and the proxy's config does not live in this repo.
The registry row stays as an uncovered gap with the reason recorded, rather
than being deleted, so the behavior is still on the list of things we want
covered once the gateway config is reachable.
The StreamOptions model, ChatBody.stream_options, Usage.cost, and
AnthropicMessagesResponse.id existed only for that test, so they go with it.
Seven live e2e tests covering cost-tracking regressions that currently ship
unnoticed: cache-write tokens billed at the cache-creation rate (#34046),
per-component cost_breakdown on the spend row (#31686), cache reads billed at
the cache-read discount on streamed calls (#34812), cache tokens surviving the
anthropic-messages to Responses bridge (#34957), priority-tier rates applied to
input, output and reasoning (#35923, #35925), the per-component response cost
headers summing to the total (#36965), and cost injected into the final usage
frame of an /openai passthrough stream (#36503).
Every test registers its own deployment with a distinct custom rate per
component, so a component billed at the wrong rate cannot pass. The shared
helpers in cost_rows.py encode the one thing the two surfaces disagree on: the
spend row's input_cost is gross of cache while the response's cost-input header
is net of it.
Replaces the test-side fixture transport with an in-process provider-edge
HTTP server the proxy's deployments point their api_base at. Record forwards
provider calls verbatim and writes them to the bundle; replay answers them
from the bundle with zero provider calls while key auth, routing, cost
calculation, and spend-log writes still execute against the live proxy and
database. Drift comes back as HTTP 599 naming the computed and closest
recorded keys. Request headers are never stored and responses are kept
byte-identical between modes from the proxy's side of the socket.
* test(e2e): add failing reproducers for two open gateway bugs
Both tests assert the behavior a customer expects and both are red today. They
are reproducers, not regressions: the product is wrong, not the tests.
Native passthrough returns almost none of the operational headers the managed
route does. A /gemini/ generateContent call comes back with three x-litellm-*
headers and no x-ratelimit-* at all, against sixteen and four on
/v1beta/models/{m}:generateContent for the same prompt, and critically it omits
x-litellm-response-cost. Customers front provider-native traffic through this
route and read those headers to reconcile spend and pace themselves, so native
traffic is currently invisible to the tooling that covers every other route.
/budget/update rejects any model_max_budget with a 500. The reported symptom was
model ids containing dots, and that reproduces (prisma raises "Unexpected
`-5.2[FloatValue]` Expected `:`" because the key is interpolated into a GraphQL
query unquoted, so glm-5.2 lexes as an identifier followed by a float), but the
plain name gpt4o fails too, on a separate "model_max_budget should be of any of
the following types: Json" type mismatch at budget_management_endpoints.py:173.
Omitting the field returns 200. The test drives both names so the failure says
whether per-model budgets are broken outright or only for punctuated ids; today
it stops on the plain name, which is the wider bug.
* test(e2e): add reproducer for unenforced end-user per-model rate limits
model_max_budget accepts an rpm_limit alongside the spend cap, and /budget/new
stores it: the create response echoes {"gemini-2.5-flash": {"rpm_limit": 1,
"max_budget": 100.0, "budget_duration": "1d"}}. Attach that budget to an end
user, drive three calls as that user, and all three return 200. The limit is
accepted, persisted, and then ignored.
The same shape already works when the budget hangs off a key, which is what
makes this quietly dangerous: the API gives every indication the cap is in
force. A customer using it to hold one end user to a slow rate on a shared key
gets no throttling at all.
Harness additions this needs: ModelBudgetEntry carries the rpm_limit/tpm_limit
the route already accepts, BudgetNewBody and create_budget carry
model_max_budget, and create_customer can attach an existing budget_id rather
than only an inline max_budget.
Red today, for the reason in the assertion message.
* test(e2e): tighten model_max_budget reproducers and drop in-loop closure
Trim the reproducer docstrings to the contract they assert, keeping the
failure messages that document each red-by-design bug. Replace the nested
per-model closure in the /budget/update test with a module-level predicate
and a per-model helper so nothing closes over a loop variable, and fix the
import order the merge left unsorted.
* test(e2e): skip the three reproducers while their gateway bugs stay open
The passthrough header contract, /budget/update model_max_budget, and
end-user per-model rpm enforcement reproducers all still fail against
staging by design. Skip each with the product gap named so the combined
suite can gate merges on green while the collector keeps reporting the
cells as uncovered.
* test(e2e): validate model budget response contracts
* refactor(e2e): unify model budget schema
* refactor(e2e): reuse shared model budget type
* test(e2e): cover vendor strategy gaps for chat contract, image edits, auth, team activity

Keep the PR test-only. Search tools register without an api_key so the

* test(e2e): drop search e2e suite from vendor strategy PR
Remove the /v1/search coverage file and its registry rows so this PR
no longer carries search endpoint testing.
The strict-priority e2e (added with the zero-increment limiter fix) can
never pass on stage: the proxy there does not run the
dynamic_rate_limiter_v3 callbacks + priority_reservation settings the
module requires, confirmed by zero limiter log lines across every
gateway and backend pod during the 2026-08-02 run. Config lives in the
infra repo; LIT-5118 tracks adding it.
The throughput SLO test failed the same run with 65.9% of requests dying
at the ELB as 502/503 before reaching a pod. The per-replica SLO rework
fixed the RPS-floor assertion but cannot help when stage idles at one
warm gateway replica; LIT-5119 tracks pre-scaling the fleet for the load
phase.
Both skips name their ticket, and the coverage registry returns the two
cells to the gap list while they are in place.
A single read of key_info.spend races the batched spend writer: deltas
earned before a reset flush to the DB up to ~60s later
(proxy_batch_write_at) and land on the row after the reset zeroed it.
The stage runs on Jul 30 and Aug 2 failed
test_key_budget_reset_at_advances_after_window exactly this way, with
spend back at the driven total while budget_reset_at had advanced and
calls flowed again.
Replace the single reads in rung 3 (spend zeroed after reset) and rung 4
(roomy window keeps spend) with _poll_key_spend, which re-reads to a 90s
deadline covering one full flush-plus-reset cycle. A reset that never
zeroes the row keeps spend pinned and still times out, so the regression
guard keeps its teeth.
The atomic check-and-increment path skipped any counter whose increment
was <= 0. The dynamic rate limiter always passes a zero token increment
pre-call because usage lands on the counters post-response, so on a model
configured with only tpm the limiter evaluated no counters at all: no
model-wide TPM cap and no priority reservation, in either generous or
strict mode. Regressed in dd57ae6691 when the pre-call flow moved off the
read-only should_rate_limit check, which did evaluate token limits.
Keep zero-increment counters in the payload so they act as a pure check
(current + 0 > limit), matching the pre-regression semantics in both the
Lua and in-memory paths. Adds unit regressions at the primitive and hook
level plus a live e2e covering the priority_generous/priority_strict
registry rows.
#35271 restored the hierarchy where a team-scoped key is governed by the
team and team-member budgets only; the owner's personal max_budget applies
to their personal keys. Three places in the e2e suite still encoded the
old direction and would fail against a proxy built from staging.
test_user_budget_enforced_across_all_their_keys asserted that the owner's
team-member key is refused once their personal budget is exhausted. It now
asserts only the personal keys are refused, and keeps the team key as the
control that must keep serving, which pins the restored direction instead
of leaving it unasserted. Renamed to match what it now covers.
test_team_member_key_user_budget_resets_after_window drove a team key to a
block off the owner's personal budget, so nothing can block it any more and
_drive_to_block could never succeed. Its premise is gone rather than moved,
so it is removed; the sibling personal-key test still covers
quota_management.budget.internal_user.resets_after_window.
The registry rationale for that row dropped its "and team-member keys"
clause for the same reason.
