European deployments that need EU data residency have no hosted web search option out of the box: every plug-and-play provider shipped today is US-based, and the only sovereign alternative is self-hosting SearXNG, which means running and maintaining that infrastructure yourself. Staan (staan.ai) is a European search API with EU data residency, so adding it gives those deployments a drop-in choice.
It is configured like any other provider, through the admin UI or STAAN_API_KEY, STAAN_MARKET and STAAN_MAX_SNIPPETS. Market sets the region and language of the results and defaults to en-us. Max snippets asks Staan to fetch each result page and return semantically scored chunks of it, which get merged into that result's snippet so retrieval has more to work with; leaving it at 0 uses the plain search endpoint.
Wired the same way as Tavily and Exa, with domain filtering going through the shared get_filtered_results.
Requested in #26006.
GET /api/version/updates returned the running version as latest whenever
the GitHub request failed, so an instance that cannot reach GitHub
reported itself up to date however far behind it was. The exception was
logged at debug, below the default level, so nothing recorded that the
check never happened.
The failure path now returns latest: None and logs at warning.
A null latest cannot be passed to compareVersion as it stood.
current.localeCompare(null) coerces to the string "null", and "0.10.2"
sorts before it, so the function returned true. The backend change alone
would have turned a false (latest) into a false update-available plus a
toast, so the guard is part of the fix.
The three callers stop substituting the running version in their catch,
and the two badge surfaces gain a third state. When latest is unknown
the badge is plain text, since there is no release to link to.
Admin Settings > General was wrong in a worse way than reported: it
initialised updateAvailable false with latest set to the running
version, and never checked on mount, so it claimed (latest) having made
no request at all. It now matches About.svelte, which starts unknown and
checks on mount.

* fix: stop unsaved group settings from persisting into the group list state
* fix: key the groups list so an open modal cannot rebind to another group

Two components under the admin settings area are not imported by any route or component. The admin settings shell went dead when the admin settings route became a redirect into the settings modal, which imports every admin tab directly and carries its own tab list and search. The model selector beside it lost its last importer in a separate models refactor. Every child component the shell used is still imported by the settings modal, so nothing goes with them.
This removes around 590 lines that still turn up in every search across the admin area.
Changing "Default Pinned Models" in admin settings had no effect for anyone who had already opened Open WebUI once. The sidebar copied the admin default into that user's own settings the first time it rendered and saved it to the server, which marked them as having customized their pins, so every later change to the default was ignored for them. Merely loading the page was enough, the user never had to touch a pin.
The default is now resolved for display only, through a shared store that falls back to the admin list while the user has no pins of their own, the same way default models already work. Nothing is written to the user's settings until they actually pin, unpin or reorder something, at which point their choice takes over for good. Unpinning everything still persists an empty list rather than snapping back to the default.
Users whose settings were already overwritten by the old behaviour keep that copy, since a stored pin list cannot be told apart from a deliberate one.
Fixes a drag-reorder path that mixed sidebar positions with stored ones, and stops the sidebar section reopening itself after any unrelated settings change.
