Key the schema shard's full clone on artifact-name, since main removed the

* feat(guardrails): split logging_only_scope direction from input-failure policy
logging_only_scope is now direction-only (input, output, unset for both
directions). The new logging_only_continue_on_input_failure flag controls
whether a flagged or raising logging_only input scan still lets the
response be scanned. "both" stays accepted everywhere as a deprecated
alias for unset scope plus the flag set to true, normalized at callback
init while stored rows keep the written value.

* refactor(guardrails): remove the both value from logging_only_scope
logging_only_scope only shipped its both value in dev prereleases, so it is
dropped instead of kept as a deprecated alias. Leaving the scope unset and
setting logging_only_continue_on_input_failure gives the same behavior. A
stored both value is now treated like any other invalid scope: it is logged
and ignored on load, and rejected with 422 on create or update.
* fix(guardrails): tolerate an invalid logging_only_scope in the v1 guardrail list
A config.yaml guardrail whose logging_only_scope is no longer valid, such as
the removed both value, made GET /guardrails/list return 500 for every
guardrail. The v1 list now parses params with the same tolerant parser as
the v2 list, info and PATCH paths, so the bad value is logged and dropped.
* test(guardrails): drive continue-flag rejection tests through the real guardrail handler

* test: move offline proxy auth, guardrail hook, spend, budget reset, GCS payload and pass-through tests into tests/unit
Relocate 53 legacy tests that pass with no network or keys into the tests/unit
files that mirror the code they exercise, drop 2 llm_guard tests already covered
by test_llm_guard_call_type_aliases, and delete the emptied legacy files.
* test: freeze the reset clock and run the real reset methods in the moved budget reset tests

async_make_request runs, annotate the moved tests' locals with Final, and pass
get_logging_payload typed kwargs instead of an untyped input_args dict.
* test: drive the moved proxy tests through boundaries and annotate their locals with Final
Serve GCS downloads and the Router moderation call through httpx mocks with fake
Google credentials, let the real pass-through success handler fail on the mocked
upstream response, and fold the Vertex live route endpoint check into the existing
route test. Annotate moved locals with Final, build the budget reset rows without
rebinding, and type the remaining fakes without **kwargs
Moves 58 legacy nodes (cyberark, logging callback manager, langfuse handler and helpers, SQS, app crypto, bedrock nova and invoke, cloudflare, litellm_proxy, nvidia nim, replicate, triton, convert_dict_to_response, get_model_info, vcr live-call probe) into the tests/unit files that mirror the modules they exercise. Calls that reached huggingface.co, langfuse or 0.0.0.0 are refused at the HTTP boundary with respx. * fix(otel): repair Arize OTel v2 regressions from #43698 (linear fit, metadata slot, repr tool args) (#44488)
* fix(otel): keep Arize OTel v2 regressions in check — O(n) fit, metadata slot, repr tool args
Three regressions from #43698's OpenInference tool-call/metadata emission:
1. Metadata evicted indexed message attributes: the new `metadata` key
competed for the 128-attribute span budget, and the fit sheds whole
message groups BEFORE `span.set_attribute`, so the SDK's dropped
counter stayed 0 — an invisible eviction (live A/B: input-message
attributes 86 -> 84). Two-part fix: the fit pins `metadata` behind
every message group (it sheds only once all indexed messages are
gone), and the span budget no longer charges pre-set attributes the
mappers overwrite in place — a boundary-opened LLM span already
carries keys like `gen_ai.request.model`, so the old accounting
reserved slots the fit could never spend. Live: 86 input-message
attributes with the metadata attribute riding alongside.
2. Quadratic shed on long prompts: `_message_shed_groups` rescanned the
full group map once per message (measured on a real acompletion:
0.032/0.128/0.478/1.910s at 1000/2000/4000/8000 messages vs
0.007/0.010/0.022/0.029s at base). Index the tool-call groups once by
(family, message index): the fit is linear again (0.008/0.007/0.014/
0.031s, same rig).
3. Malformed Python tool arguments lost the whole span: provider
adapters and `model_construct` responses hand over raw objects, and
`json.dumps` raises on tuple-keyed dicts (TypeError) and cycles
(ValueError) before the span is exported. Serialize with a repr
fallback; both cases now export with a readable arguments attribute.
The attribute budget change affects every boundary-opened LLM-call span
(strictly more attributes retained, never fewer); the mapper changes
only touch the OpenInference vocabulary.
* refactor(otel): build the tool-call group index in one shot
Review follow-up: the dict.setdefault/append seeding in
_tool_call_groups_by_message violated the no-mutation coding convention
(AGENTS.md: build values in one shot with comprehensions or generators
wrapped in tuple()/MappingProxyType()). Rebuild it as a sorted groupby
comprehension; randomized parity harness confirms the shed order is
byte-identical to the seeded version (400 trials).
Also pin the overflow corner Greptile asked about: a pre-set
indexed-message key the fit sheds keeps its earlier value in place, so
the span total can never exceed the SDK limit (new emitter test).
* fix(otel): key the groupby with an explicit tuple to keep basedpyright at budget
The slice-keyed groupby (group[:2]) widened the key to tuple[str | int],
adding one reportGeneralTypeIssues over the codebase ceiling. Key by the
explicit (family, message index) pair instead; shed order unchanged
(300-trial randomized parity harness).
* fix(otel): read pre-set span keys through a helper typed for both runtime shapes
The SDK annotates ReadableSpan.attributes as a Mapping, but an ended span
hands back a tuple of pairs, so the inline isinstance branch narrowed to
Never and pushed reportGeneralTypeIssues one over the codebase ceiling.
Extract _carried_keys with the runtime union declared on the parameter;
behavior unchanged.
* test(otel): drop the wall-clock bound from the long-prompt attribute fit test
Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com>
* fix(otel): annotate to_openai_dict as Mapping after the rebase onto main
Main's type-discipline budget tightened since the branch point; the plain
dict return annotation is the one violation the rebased branch adds.
Callers only serialize the result, so the read-only view is accurate.
* chore(otel): drop the restating docstring from to_openai_dict

* fix(guardrails): drop stream marker by value in scans and snapshots, plain-tuple stream scope state
Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com>
* fix(ui): render tag-scoped guardrail modes read-only in the custom code editor
A guardrail whose litellm_params.mode is the tag-scoped dict {tags, default}
crashed the Custom Code editor on open: normalizeMode wrapped the dict into
the mode array and StreamScopeFields rendered it as a React child (error #31,
whole dashboard unmounted). Treat a non-string non-array mode as no editable
modes, show formatGuardrailMode(mode) in a disabled input (read-only, matching
the guardrail info view), and keep mode/stream_scope out of the update payload
for such guardrails.
* fix(ui): resolve merge fallout in guardrails components
Deduplicate toModeArray import after the merge, and move the read-only
guardrail details block back into GuardrailReadOnlyDetails (now rendering
the shared mode/logging-only rows plus the stream-scope detail) so
guardrail_info.tsx stays under the 800-line lint budget. Guardrails UI
suite: 298 passed.
* fix(ui): drop duplicate toModeArray import reintroduced by merge
* chore(pass-through): document the deliberate in-place marker strip as mutable-ok
The clear/update on _parsed_body is load-bearing: rebinding to a fresh
mapping instead breaks 75 pass-through tests because the marker-free body
must propagate through the caller's request dict so downstream guardrail
scans and snapshots never observe the server streaming marker.
* fix(guardrails): move stream_scope after timeout in CustomGuardrail init
Inserting stream_scope before the existing timeout parameter shifted the
positional slot of timeout, so positional callers constructed with their
timeout bound to stream_scope (ValueError) and timeout silently None.
Restores the base parameter order; keyword callers are unaffected.
* fix(guardrails): typing pass for the lint gates
stream_scope leaves the declared constructor parameters (restoring the
base positional surface; keyword construction unchanged), unknown config
values crossing the new stream-scope code paths get typed locals or
cast-ok boundaries, and the passthrough payload literals are annotated.
All three lint gates pass against current main; the guardrail suites are
unchanged (236+5019 passing; one known anyio-driver failure pre-existing
on base).
* style: sort cast imports for the ruff gate
* chore(pass-through): drop unused BEDROCK_STREAMING_ACTIONS re-export
The streaming check now uses is_bedrock_streaming_endpoint; nothing in
the repo imports the name from this module.

* test: make 77 legacy live tests offline in litellm_utils, router_unit and responses dirs
* test: restore lost coverage in litellm_utils offline replacements
Bound live health-check tasks to the concurrency limit so eager task
creation behind a semaphore fails, route the Langfuse trace-id check
through completion -> Logging.get_trace_id with all four metadata
combinations, run the callback dedup checks through acompletion, pass
the dynamic key via litellm_params, cover the env-inferred default
model list, and add the per-provider audio transcription config lookup
* test: restore router coverage lost in the offline move
Add the missing non-stream LIT-3058 header/count-once test, pin the UTC minute on every
usage-counter test, assert router-level client reuse for transcription, and replace the
private selector-attribute checks with routing outcomes per strategy. Assert outbound bodies
for speech, rerank, image, assistants and moderation, add timeouts to event waits, and drop
the router_unit_tests husk files that no longer hold tests
* test: restore sync stream, router sync stream, error event and field-type coverage for migrated responses tests
Add the sync streaming logging and sync Router.responses streaming cases the
offline replacements dropped, port the legacy per-event and response field-type
validation, assert raw headers, the float created_at conversion, MCP tool headers,
the search_context_size input, and add an offline replacement for the in-stream
context-window error event. Remove helpers left dead in the legacy file.
* test: run numpydoc-backed unit tests in GHA and drop a test that pinned a crash
* test: restore sequence number, item id and content part checks in the responses stream validator
* test: match router logging events to the test's own deployment so late events from other tests are ignored
* test: restore the s3 cold storage history test to its original assertions

* fix(cache_control): let a hosted deployment opt into the OpenAI cache dialect
_targets_openai_prompt_cache_breakpoint gated on custom_llm_provider == "openai"
unconditionally, so an OpenAI-shaped model served by another provider could never
qualify, even with supports_prompt_cache_breakpoint set explicitly on its own
cost-map entry. bedrock_mantle honours prompt_cache_breakpoint end to end, and
had no way to say so.
model_cost is keyed per exact deployment string, so a flag on the deployment's own
entry states the dialect more precisely than a provider name can. Consult it
before the provider check, and require the entry's litellm_provider to match the
serving provider so an openai entry cannot license another provider. Entries for
the openai provider keep their api_base check, so an OpenAI-compatible third-party
host is still not assumed to speak the dialect.
Fixes#38666
* test: drop a laziness assertion the existing suite already makes
test_provider_lookup_skipped_for_models_below_gpt_5_6 already pins that
_resolve_provider is not called for an unflagged model, and it covers the new
flag lookup unchanged. The duplicate patched a litellm internal for no added
coverage, which the test-quality gate counts against TQ008.
* fix(bedrock_mantle): flag GPT-5.6 and newer rows for OpenAI explicit prompt cache breakpoints
* fix(responses): predict the chat-completions bridge with the model name the dispatch resolves
* fix(cache_control): read a region-prefixed Mantle GPT deployment through its region-free price-map row
* fix(cache_control): let a bare hosted deployment name read its own provider's price-map row
* fix(responses): hand the hook the provider the router resolved for a Foundry GPT deployment
* fix(cache_control): read the deployment breakpoint flag strictly and default a null prompt_cache_options
A cost-map or deployment `supports_prompt_cache_breakpoint` that is not the boolean `true` (the string "true",
the integer 1, "false", 0, a long string) no longer opts a deployment into the OpenAI prompt cache dialect; only
`true` does, the same reading Bedrock Converse applies to its own flag.
A client that sends `"prompt_cache_options": null` on `/v1/chat/completions` or `/v1/messages` now gets the
implicit default the hook already applied on `/v1/responses` when it placed a breakpoint; before, the null
suppressed the default and the request left with a breakpoint and no options.
* test(integration): audit cells for the Mantle GPT prompt cache breakpoint dialect
Deterministic cells for the configured-breakpoint path on Bedrock Mantle GPT and Azure AI Foundry GPT-6
deployments: every endpoint, streaming and not, sync and async SDKs and raw httpx, the hostile option shapes,
flag precedence, the response cache twin, a two-worker burst, a worker kill and a graceful restart.
* fix(cache_control): ignore a malformed cache_control_injection_points value instead of failing the request
A deployment or client `cache_control_injection_points` that is not a list of points (a string, an
integer, a bare point dict, a list of strings) raised inside the prompt hook (`'str' object has no
attribute 'get'`, `'int' object is not iterable`) and turned every request to that deployment into a
500 on `/v1/chat/completions`, `/v1/messages` and `/v1/responses`. Every entry point now reads such a
value as no configured points, the way a `null` already read, and the request leaves without a
breakpoint; entries of a list that are not points are dropped and the point entries kept.
* test(integration): cover int, dict and string-list injection point shapes in the Mantle audit cells
The D9 cell now also sends an integer, a bare point dict and a list of strings as the deployment's
`cache_control_injection_points`, which the merge base answered with a 500 on every request.
* fix(cache_control): stamp the OpenAI dialect for a bare deployment name served by a flagged provider
A deployment written as `model: openai.gpt-5.6-sol` with `custom_llm_provider: bedrock_mantle` has no cost-map row
of its own and no openai row of the same name, so the dialect stamp's cheap gate (`supports_openai_prompt_cache_breakpoint`)
returned early and the configured point was never stamped. On `/v1/responses` and on the chat seeding path the hook
sees no provider, so it fell back to the Anthropic `cache_control` marker, which Bedrock Mantle strips.
The gate now also passes a model whose serving provider is already known and whose provider-keyed row carries the
flag, which is the same row the dialect resolution reads and costs no provider lookup. A bare name without a provider
is still left alone, so models below GPT-5.6 keep their points untouched and resolve nothing.
* test(integration): cover a bare Mantle deployment name with its provider in the audit cells
A deployment configured as `model: openai.gpt-5.6-sol` plus `custom_llm_provider: bedrock_mantle` sends the
breakpoint and the implicit options on all three endpoints; the merge base leaves it on the Anthropic dialect.
* fix(cache_control): keep a configured point that sits beside junk entries on every chat seed path
`configured_injection_points` kept the point dicts of a mixed `cache_control_injection_points` list as a tuple,
but only read a `list` back. The chat seed and the `/v1/responses` dialect stamp write the normalized value back
onto the request, and on a deployment the OpenAI dialect does not stamp (an Anthropic model, Claude on Bedrock
Mantle) that value is the tuple itself, so the hook then read it as no configured points and the valid point was
silently dropped. The stamped OpenAI dialect and the `/v1/messages` path kept it only because they build a new list.
The normalizer now reads back the tuple it wrote, so the point reaches the wire on every path; an all-dict list
still passes through as the same object.
* test(integration): cover a configured point beside junk entries on a Claude Mantle deployment
A deployment configured with `cache_control_injection_points: ["system", {system point}, 3]` marks the system
block on the Anthropic dialect on all three endpoints; the merge base answers 500 on the junk entry.

* test: move the unit half of 126 mixed legacy files into tests/unit
* test: restore litellm globals that moved tests set
* test: finalize migration test cleanup
* test: restore original bodies of moved legacy tests
The move into tests/unit had rewritten 612 test bodies, and some of the rewrites dropped assertions. Each moved test now carries its original body from the legacy file, with only the imports, helpers, fake provider credentials and monkeypatched env it needs to run under tests/unit
test_timeout_streaming goes back to tests/local_testing because it needs the fake OpenAI endpoint server. The image payload fixture moves with its only user, and two tests that leaked global state (a registered model cost entry and queued logging tasks) are now isolated
* test: drop module imports shadowed by restored local imports
* test: assert on LiteLLM output in no-assertion moved tests and isolate leaks
Twenty no-assertion candidates get one assertion on the value LiteLLM returns, with the original lines unchanged. Four tests go back to their legacy files because they only check types or imports, write into the working directory, or cannot assert without a body change
Two moved tests leaked globals into later tests in the same worker, so monkeypatch fixtures now restore the retry-after header parser and the end user cost tracking flags
* test: drain queued logging tasks before the Phoenix span test
The moved Phoenix test counted spans from logging tasks that earlier tests had queued, so the drain fixture moves to tests/unit/conftest.py and both it and the Datadog batch test use it. test_factory_function goes back to its legacy file because its returned wrapper calls the real Assistants API and cannot be asserted on without a body change

* fix(guardrails): keep no-op PUT and logging_only scan-failure semantics stable
Three regressions from the logging_only_scope feature, fixed while keeping
the input/output/both selection working:
1. PUT with byte-identical litellm_params no longer forces a teardown +
re-init of the live callback. reject_invalid_logging_only_scope now
only validates; re-init still happens exactly when params/name change.
Previously a description-only PUT re-appended the callback at the END
of litellm.callbacks, reordering guardrails: with a BLOCK guardrail
created before a MASK one, the mask started winning and blocked
requests started succeeding (400 -> PUT 200 -> 200). Invalid unchanged
scopes are still rejected with 422 without touching the live instance.
2. CustomGuardrail._scan_logged_call no longer swallows input-scan
exceptions per branch: a raising or BLOCKED input scan aborts the
logging_only hook again (one policy call, one verdict) for guardrails
that never selected a logging_only_scope. Explicit input/output/both
selection keeps selecting which scans run.
3. A failed PATCH now rolls the DB row back to exactly the stored raw
litellm_params (a legacy 4-key row stays 4 keys) instead of expanding
it to a full LitellmParams dump; pinned with a test. This matches the
PUT rollback shape and is the faithful rollback.
* refactor(guardrails): type directional-scope provider list as a tuple
* fix(lint): stay within the basedpyright budget
- drop a Final annotation assigned inside the validation loop
(reportGeneralTypeIssues over ceiling by one)
- rename the PR-introduced _configured_event_hooks to public
configured_event_hooks; its cross-module import added the two
reportPrivateUsage errors that pushed the rule over its ceiling
* fix(guardrails): keep the response verdict for explicit logging_only_scope=both on input-scan failure
Greptile P1: an explicitly configured both-direction observer asked for a
verdict on each direction, so a failed request scan must not silently drop
the response verdict. The implicit default (logging_only_scope None) keeps
the abort semantics of a logging_only hook whose scan raised, which is the
base behavior the earlier fix restored.
Also drops two test comments that restated their assertions (Greptile P2).
* test(guardrails): align logging_only_scope integration rows with abort-on-input-failure and encrypted params

litellm_llm_api_latency_metric, litellm_llm_api_time_to_first_token_metric,
litellm_request_total_latency_metric, and litellm_deployment_latency_per_output_token
previously carried requested_model/litellm_model_name/model_id but not model_group,
so pooled-deployment latency couldn't be grouped by model pool on dashboards --
only the proxy-overhead-only metrics (litellm_overhead_latency_metric and friends)
had model_group. All four metrics read enum_values.model_group through the existing
prometheus_label_factory plumbing, so no new parameter threading was needed, just
the label-list addition.

* refactor(types): replace Any with proven types in 299 files
Clears 871 basedpyright Any errors (reportAny 6,703 to 6,240, reportExplicitAny 1,651 to 1,243) without adding a cast, an ignore or a suppression, and without touching any budget file
Most edits are annotation-only: a parameter, return or local goes from Any to object, Mapping[str, object] or the concrete type the value always held. Fourteen files validate untyped JSON once where it enters, through a module-level pydantic TypeAdapter or model_validate, and then use real types
No HTTP status, error type or response shape changes. Mistral speech and fal.ai Bria image generation now report a pydantic ValidationError instead of an AttributeError when the provider answers 2xx with a body that is not a JSON object
* refactor(types): make the config locals fix effective and trim no-op edits
The Mapping[str, object] annotation on `locals().copy()` removed no error,
because the checker narrows the variable back to the dict[str, Any] the call
returns. 21 provider config constructors now build the same copy with
dict(locals()), which the checker infers as object values under that
annotation, so each file loses one reportAny.
The same annotation is reverted in 31 other config files where it stayed a
no-op, together with the tests that were added only to cover those lines, and
the one MCP server manager line that no CI coverage shard executes is
reverted too. The pull request drops from 345 to 297 changed files.
* refactor(types): accept only int in the proxy state setter
get_proxy_state_variable is annotated to return int, but
set_proxy_state_variable still took Any, so the checker could not hold
callers to the type the getter promises. The setter now takes int, which is
what its only caller already passes.
* refactor(types): index the proxy state key so the getter returns int
* refactor(types): keep public annotations and provider error text unchanged
Restore every public return, public method parameter, public attribute and exported
alias to its annotation on main so code that type-checks against the package keeps
type-checking, and take the Mistral speech and fal.ai Bria changes back out so no
provider error message differs from main
* refactor(types): leave the Vertex RAG chunking read as it is on main
Take the chunking format validation back out of the Vertex RAG ingestion path. It needs the vertexai SDK, a storage bucket and a RAG corpus to execute, so nothing here could run it end to end, and it cleared only two errors
* test(integration): pin the validated provider boundaries on a live proxy
* test(integration): give the held burst a client that outlasts the gate
The fault cell holds a burst at the upstream for up to 60 seconds while it kills a worker, but sent the burst through the shared 15 second client, so a slow box could time the survivors out before the gate opened. The burst now goes through its own client whose timeout is twice the gate, and the gate length is one named constant.
* refactor(types): keep the license reply handling and experimental MCP signatures as they were
The license check validated the whole reply as a mapping, which changed the error text logged for a reply that is not an object. It now validates only the verify value, so every reply is handled and logged exactly as before while the value is still typed.
Three files under the experimental MCP server changed annotations on public functions and methods (three returns and three parameters). They go back to their previous content so no public signature in the diff is narrowed.
* test(integration): answer the proxy's model-list call in the OpenAI stand-ins
Every 300 seconds each proxy worker asks an OpenAI deployment for GET /v1/models. Four new cells own an OpenAI stand-in that accepted only the call under test, so a refresh landing inside a cell failed it. The stand-ins now answer that call through the suite's own helper and the cells count only the provider calls they drive.
* feat(prometheus): cap series per metric for every labeled metric
Add prometheus_metrics_max_series_per_metric: per metric and per worker process, the first N label
sets keep a series of their own. Counters and histograms record every later label set on one series
whose labels are all "other", so totals stay exact, and gauges skip it. The cap holds with multiple
workers because it never needs to remove a series.
Add prometheus_metrics_ttl_seconds: a series idle for that long is removed and its slot is freed.
The prometheus client cannot remove a series in multi-process mode, so the TTL is ignored there with
a startup warning.
Both settings are off by default. The end_user caps are unchanged.
* fix(prometheus): share the series cap across workers of one proxy instance
Workers writing to one PROMETHEUS_MULTIPROC_DIR now agree on which label
sets get a series through an append-only admissions file per metric, so a
merged scrape stays at the cap plus `other` instead of growing with every
worker and every worker restart. The two fallback counters now pass their
label names as a keyword so the cap and prometheus_exclude_labels apply to
them, admission and child creation happen under one lock, the test fixture
restores the shared registry, and the `other` label value lives in
constants.py.
* test(prometheus): check emitted labels instead of wrapper types, close the admission match
The exclude-labels test now emits through the spend and provider budget
metrics and checks the scrape keeps all their labels. The admission match
arms end in assert_never so the match is exhaustive.
* fix(prometheus): return the exhaustive-match fallback so every admission arm returns
* fix(prometheus): pick the series tracker with isinstance so every path of _admits returns
* fix(prometheus): skip an admissions line a worker could only write part of
* fix(prometheus): frame each admissions record with newlines so a cut-off record cannot swallow the next
A record a worker could only write part of used to merge with the next worker's record, and both were skipped for one request. Each record is now written between two newlines, so the fragment is a line of its own. The clock fixture in the series tests starts from a constant instead of reading the real clock
* fix(prometheus): ignore a non-positive series cap or TTL with a warning instead of failing the logger
A cap or TTL of 0 or less raised at logger init. The proxy logs that as a non-blocking error and keeps serving, so the result was a running proxy with no Prometheus metrics at all. The setting is now ignored with a startup warning naming it, the same rule the end_user cap already follows for a non-positive value
* fix(prometheus): start the series cap over on a one-worker restart and audit it live
A proxy with one worker and an operator-set PROMETHEUS_MULTIPROC_DIR now drops litellm's admission files at boot, so a restart frees every slot there the way it already does with several workers. A cap or TTL that is not a number greater than 0 (a bool, a non-numeric string, an empty value) is ignored with the startup warning instead of breaking the logger
The integration cells drive the cap on every endpoint through the OpenAI and Anthropic SDKs and raw httpx, streaming and not, plus gauges, cache hits, failures, both workers of one instance, the TTL on one worker and its warning on two, ignored settings, excluded labels on the fallback counters, a null cap, /config/update, a concurrent burst scraped mid-flight, a provider outage, a killed worker, and restarts with one and two workers
* fix(prometheus): wipe an operator-set multiprocess directory on a one-worker boot too
* fix(prometheus): leave the multiprocess directory alone on a setup-only run
A run with --skip_server_startup starts no worker, so it no longer creates or
wipes PROMETHEUS_MULTIPROC_DIR. Wiping there deleted the samples of a proxy
already running against the same directory
* fix(prometheus): free the capped series slots when a gateway or backend container restarts
The component image entrypoint starts uvicorn without the proxy CLI and wiped only the .db sample files at container start, so the admitted-series files of the previous container survived an in-place restart. Every label set seen after the restart was then counted on `other` once the previous container had filled the cap
* test(prometheus): cover a setup-only run and a gateway image restart under the cap
Two integration cells from the audit: a `--skip_server_startup` run pointed at a live
two-worker proxy's operator directory leaves its samples alone, and the gateway image
(`docker/component_entrypoint.sh` running `python -m gateway.launch`) restarted on a kept
PROMETHEUS_MULTIPROC_DIR starts the cap over. The burst cells now wait for every counter
they assert on, since the request and failure counters of one call increment at different
points of the logging callback
* test(prometheus): prove the cap reaches the fallback counters in the X1 cell
* fix(prometheus): ignore a cleanup interval that is not a number of at least 0
A string or negative prometheus_metrics_cleanup_interval_seconds reached the
series tracker unvalidated, so the first labeled emit with a TTL on raised
TypeError inside the callback and recorded no series. The interval is now
validated the way the cap and the TTL are: an invalid value is ignored with a
warning and the default 60 seconds applies. The I2 integration cell drives a
string interval through a live proxy and reads the warning from its log
* test(prometheus): give the restart cells the boot budget of their siblings
C4 and C5 boot two proxies each and hit the file's 240 s budget on a loaded
box; C3 and D1 already carry 420 s

* refactor(types): prove runtime types at harness, search, rag and client boundaries
Replace Any with adapter-validated types in the litellm.agent() harness, the
search provider transformations, RAG ingestion and query, the vector store
pre-call hook and registry, the galileo and opik logging integrations and the
proxy client CLI. Each boundary gets unit tests for well-formed and malformed
payloads.
* chore(typing): prove types at more provider boundaries and restore search transformations
Second pass over a2a, embedding, rerank, image, audio and small provider
modules. Search transformations go back to their previous form because
validating their response bodies would change the proxy status for
malformed upstream bodies from 400 to 500.
* refactor(types): prove types at logging, files, rerank, image, audio and management boundaries
Replace Any with validated or annotation-only types in 37 more files: logging
integrations, token counters, provider files/rerank/image generation/audio
transcription transformations, pass-through logging handlers and management
endpoints. No proxy HTTP status or error type changes.
* refactor(types): prove types at repository, spend, files and router boundaries
Replace Any with repository table accessors, validated mappings and
annotation-only types in 33 more files: Prisma repositories, the enterprise
batch and responses cost checkers, budget reservation, files endpoints,
management endpoints, the policy registry, the adaptive and complexity routers
and the secret managers. No proxy HTTP status or error type changes.
* test(types): run the aiohttp transformation test in-process and cover repository row conversion
The aiohttp chat transformation test no longer starts a server. It feeds the
transformation a response whose json() returns the body under test.
The proxy unit shards now exercise stored model rows whose params are JSON
strings and the object permission create and update paths.

* fix(otel): read the registered v2 logger without importing the proxy
phase_span, which the router enters on every deployment pick since #44150, looked up the
proxy's OTel logger by importing litellm.proxy.proxy_server. In an SDK process that import
loads the whole proxy synchronously on the caller's event loop during its first request,
which stalled litellm_router_unit_testing past its 5s wait. Read the module from
sys.modules instead: when the proxy was never imported it has no registered logger.

* fix(caching): only skip injection on message or content marks
Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com>
* fix(caching): skip injection on messages whose tool calls carry marks
Reverts 9f08d8aef8. A default 5m mark injected on assistant text lands
before the client's 1h tool_use mark, which Anthropic rejects with a 400
because a 1h breakpoint must not follow a 5m one. Keeping the full census
in the skip check leaves the client's tool_call breakpoint as the only
one on that message.
* fix(caching): count every client tool_call cache mark in the breakpoint census
The census gated tool_call marks on type function and dict shape, so a client mark on a call without a type or with a string cache_control slipped past the count and injection overflowed the 4 breakpoint cap. Count any non-None tool_call mark, keep the server tool exclusion, and add integration cells for the capped surfaces, the yaml stand-down, Bedrock and Gemini, and router affinity
* test(integration): hold the upstream so the worker kill lands mid-burst
* refactor(caching): reuse the transform's server tool lookup in the breakpoint census
The census now calls the same helper the Anthropic transform uses to decide
whether a marked tool call becomes a server tool block, so the two cannot
drift apart. The owned-proxy burst test waits up to 90 seconds for the burst
to reach the wire before it kills a worker
* refactor(anthropic): move the server tool rebuild check under llms/anthropic
* test(integration): audit the tool call mark census across chat, messages, responses, and chaos
Adds the /audit cells for the breakpoint census on assistant tool_calls marks: the
Responses stream bridge, the OpenAI and Anthropic SDK clients, in-process Pydantic
messages, response cache twins, request-level points, a provider 401 on a capped request,
malformed provider_specific_fields and tool_call ids, null or empty points, a points
update mid-burst, a proxy restart mid-burst, and a worker SIGKILL that picks the worker
holding the burst's upstream connections
* test(integration): close the SDK clients the cache census cells open

* feat(anthropic): workload identity federation and pluggable identity sources
Backend half of #38818 (internal copy of the fork PR #38013), rebuilt as one
commit on top of litellm_internal_staging without the dashboard changes.
Deployments on anthropic/ without a static api_key can exchange an OIDC
workload assertion for a short-lived sk-ant-oat01 token through a shared
RFC 7523 JWT-bearer engine. The assertion comes from a mounted token file,
an env token, a LiteLLM-signed issuer, or Keycloak, chosen per deployment,
per named credential, or through ANTHROPIC_IDENTITY_SOURCE. The federation
fields are server-owned: refused inline in request bodies and on
POST /model/new, proxy-admin only on credentials, and the token exchange
is pinned to api.anthropic.com unless LITELLM_ANTHROPIC_WIF_ALLOWED_HOSTS
adds a host. GET /credentials/{name}/jwks exports the public key set of a
LiteLLM-signed credential for the Claude Console.
The OpenAI federation trio from #39613 rides along on the backend side with
the same server-owned handling.
Fixes#28607
Resolves LIT-6107

* fix(anthropic): let batch-result downloads mint from deployment params and accept host:port allowlist entries
The files handler enabled workload identity on batch-result downloads but never received the
deployment's litellm_params, so a deployment authenticating through a named credential could only
mint from process-wide env vars. It now threads litellm_params through to the auth header the way
the batch retrieve path already does.
LITELLM_ANTHROPIC_WIF_ALLOWED_HOSTS entries written as host:port were read by urlsplit as a scheme,
so the allowlist kept the raw entry while the exchange compared bare hostnames and refused the
gateway. Entries are now parsed as network locations whether or not they carry a scheme.
* fix(types): move the WIF kwargs key sets to a leaf module so the kwargs funnel imports without a cycle
* test(anthropic): pin case-insensitive matching of WIF exchange-host allowlist entries
* fix(anthropic): end workload identity federation errors without a period so the router suffix reads cleanly
* fix(proxy): decrypt stored litellm_params before the WIF write gate
* fix(proxy): hide WIF secret references from /health output
* fix(proxy): keep the proxy error shape on credential endpoint refusals
* fix(proxy): hide identity token file paths from /health output
* fix(anthropic): rename the federation workspace param so Bedrock's anthropic_workspace_id keeps working
The Bedrock Claude Platform route already reads anthropic_workspace_id from
optional_params, so banning that spelling as a server-owned federation
parameter broke a pre-existing client capability. The federation field is now
anthropic_federation_workspace_id (env ANTHROPIC_FEDERATION_WORKSPACE_ID),
which restores the base branch's behavior for Bedrock callers, drops the
Bedrock-specific hint from the refusal message, and deletes the unconditional
ban constant that no longer had a reader
* fix(auth): share one exchanged token across workers reading the same assertion
Anthropic accepts each identity assertion exactly once, so two uvicorn
workers reading the same token file both minting from it means the second
exchange is denied with jti_reused. Minted tokens now land in a per-user
0700 cache directory guarded by a file lock, so workers on the same host
reuse one exchange until the token expires or the assertion rotates. A 401
is only retried when the re-read assertion actually differs, and the denial
hint explains jti_reused. LITELLM_TOKEN_EXCHANGE_CACHE_DIR moves the cache
and an empty value disables it
* fix: keep anthropic federation from being shadowed or leaked
An empty or whitespace-only ANTHROPIC_API_KEY counted as set, so a federated
deployment sent an empty x-api-key on every call instead of minting a token.
Blank values now read as unset, and a real static key on a federated deployment
logs once that it outranks federation and nothing is being federated.
The exchange-host allowlist matched hostnames only, so a second process on
another port of an allowed host was trusted with the workload's identity token.
An entry that names a port now trusts that port alone, while a bare host still
trusts every port.
The shared token store exists so the workers reading one projected token file do
not each spend its single-use jti. A source that mints its own assertion per
exchange shares nothing with another worker, so it no longer writes a live token
to disk for a lookup that can never hit.
* fix: unlink a staged token file a failed write leaves behind
The 401 denial hint now also says federation ignores ANTHROPIC_WORKSPACE_ID, which the Bedrock Claude platform provider already reads.
* refactor: move anthropic jwks derivation behind a provider-owned tagged union
* fix: unlink the staged token file when its write fails at close
A buffered write only reaches the disk when the handle closes, so a full disk surfaces at close and left the staging file behind holding a usable token.
* fix(anthropic): close the staging descriptor before writing the shared token file
* fix(wif): judge federation writes by what they set, not what is stored
The admin gate read the stored deployment, so a team admin lost edit, delete
and Test Connection on any deployment carrying federation params. It now
returns early unless the submitted fields touch the federation surface, and a
Test Connection probe that points the deployment at its own api_base is still
refused, with the 403 no longer wrapped into a 500
The rest of the same review pass: POST /model/new refuses only a blocking
value of `blocked`, so a client that always sends `blocked: false` is not
turned away; a request body can no longer pick which federated identity to
mint as by naming a stored credential; an advisory refresh the executor
refuses disarms the entry instead of wedging the identity until the follower
timeout; the static-key shadow warning resolves its env fallback inside the
cache instead of once per request; credential writes drop nulls before
storing them; the token exchange validates the endpoint URL before reading an
assertion and keeps refusing redirects across a client heal; /health hides
every server-owned federation field from non-admins; and the async create_file
and create_batch paths say which setting is missing when the provider resolves
no URL
* fix(proxy): let a deployment write name a federated credential
reject_federated_credential_reference runs from is_request_body_safe, which
pre_db_read_auth_checks calls on every route, so it also fired on POST
/model/new, /model/update, /model/{id}/update and /health/test_connection. A
proxy admin could no longer attach a federated credential to a deployment over
the API or the Admin UI, leaving a static config.yaml entry as the only way to
configure the feature the rejection told the caller to go configure, and
_reject_non_admin_wif_write never got to make the call it exists to make.
is_request_body_safe now takes the route and skips only the credential-reference
check on the routes that reach can_user_make_model_call. Federation fields typed
inline into a body stay refused everywhere, and a call naming a federated
credential still cannot pick the identity it mints as.
* refactor(proxy): derive health display policy from the federation key sets
The health check module hand-copied the five workload identity fields whose
value is a credential, so a shared proxy surface named provider-specific
parameters and a newly added secret-bearing field would have gone on being
displayed until someone remembered both places
WIF_SECRET_BEARING_KEYS now sits beside the key sets it splits out of,
types/utils derives secret_bearing_wif_litellm_params from it, and the health
layer splats that tuple the same way it already splats the admin-only one
* fix(anthropic_wif): treat blank identity-source fields as unset
* test(proxy): classify the federation params in the credential slot registry
main's registry test (#43298) now fails the build for any credential-named
deployment param without a classification. The five federation fields that
carry a token, a token file path, or a signing or client secret reference are
Unplanted, matching WIF_SECRET_BEARING_KEYS; the four remaining Keycloak
settings name a URL, a client id, an auth method, or a scope and are NotSecret
* fix(anthropic_wif): declare federation params as owned connection leaves and chart their metrics
Register the 18 Anthropic and 3 OpenAI federation params as frozen
ConnectionSettings leaves so the owned-kwarg registry, the kwargs funnel
and the request-body ban list read one declaration. Pass the deployment
api_base through to the count-tokens handler instead of a pre-suffixed
URL, which doubled the /count_tokens path on main's prompt-cache
predictor. Add the five litellm_anthropic_wif_* families to the
all-metrics Grafana dashboard.
* fix(credentials): gate PATCH on WIF fields resolved from model_id
The credential PATCH handler checked server-owned workload identity
federation fields only on the values the caller sent, while a body that
named a deployment through model_id had its credential values resolved
after that check. A non-admin could therefore copy a federated
deployment's WIF fields onto an ordinary credential. Resolve the incoming
values first and run the non-admin gate on them, matching the POST path
* fix(anthropic): count tokens with ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN through the shared auth header
Count-tokens walked its own credential ladder: a static key, else skip minting when
ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN is set, else mint a federated token. With only the auth token set it
forwarded nothing and the proxy silently fell back to its local tokenizer while chat on the
same deployment authenticated with that token. The handler now takes the auth header that
AnthropicModelInfo.aget_auth_header resolves, the same ladder chat, files, batches and skills
use, and merges the oauth beta a minted or consumer token carries with the token-counting beta

is_prompt_caching_valid_prompt ran the full Python token_counter over every message to compare against the deployment's prompt cache minimum, 500 to 1000 ms at 440k to 740k tokens on every request that reaches the prompt_caching pre-call check, Rust on or off. messages_reach_token_count does the same arithmetic as token_counter(...) >= threshold and stops at the first message that reaches the threshold. Groups with one healthy deployment skip the prefix hash and pin lookup, which cannot change the result for them
Four fixed name span events make the pre-LLM phases measurable with OTel v2: litellm.request.body_received (with body_bytes) once per body read before parsing, on the JSON, binary and form branches, body_parsed, pre_call_completed, and deployment_selected emitted once per pick inside Router.async_get_available_deployment and get_available_deployment with attempt, reason and model group, so every router surface, retry and fallback is covered. Measured locally on /v1/chat/completions, /v1/messages and /v1/responses at 440k tokens with Rust on and off against a fake upstream

Response cache reads and writes open cache.get llm_response and cache.set llm_response phase spans with their Redis spans nested underneath, on the Python path and on the native Rust path, and deployment selection runs inside a route {model_group} phase so the cooldown, usage and model-id reads the router issues nest under it before chat {model}. The autorouter classifier call nests under that route phase as well and carries its typed internal origin on litellm.request.purpose, so it is told apart from the provider attempt. Service spans are named {service}.{verb} {target} from a low-cardinality key family the producer declares (llm_response, auth_objects, spend_counters, router_cooldowns, claude_code_session_router_binding, rate_limits, pod_lock, budget_reset, ...) instead of the raw method or a per-request pipeline length; a pipeline flush is targeted by the one family its ops share or by mixed with the sorted families on litellm.redis.families, a batch op keeps the family it was declared under whichever pipeline or standalone read settles it, and the ambient family labels Redis spans only, never the DB write-back a task spawned inside that context performs later. The raw method stays on litellm.service.call_type and on the Prometheus and Datadog labels. Caller attribution is carried across asyncio task boundaries on a ContextVar so forwarder-only chains no longer surface, the raw cache key is dropped from Redis span metadata, pipeline op counts land as an integer attribute, every call_type the Redis cache layer emits maps to a verb, and a scan over litellm/ and enterprise/ fails when a Redis producer, batch reservation included, declares no key family.
A V2 logger built for a key or team logging entry while the operator's V2 logger is already registered keeps only the exporters its own preset contributed, whether or not the operator holds credentials for that backend, so every chat span no longer reaches the operator's collector twice. A span the success callback has to open itself, with no pre-call carrier, starts at the provider handoff (api_call_start_time) instead of the logging object's creation.

* chore(lint): remove the LIT002 mutable-construction rule
Drop LIT002 from scripts/check_type_discipline.py along with its helpers,
its budget entry, its unit tests, and the AGENTS.md and gate docstring
mentions. `# mutable-ok` now only suppresses LIT001, so the markers that
only existed to silence LIT002 became LIT013 stale suppressions and are
removed. The files whose layout depended on those trailing comments are
reformatted with ruff format.
Every other LIT rule count is unchanged and the ASTs of all touched
litellm/ files match main apart from one docstring.
* chore(lint): keep the leftover mutable-ok markers for a follow-up
Restore the ~1.4k `# mutable-ok` markers stripped in the previous commit
so this PR only touches the checker, its tests, the budget, and docs.
Those markers no longer suppress anything, so `# mutable-ok` is exempt
from LIT013 until a follow-up strips them.
* Revert "chore(lint): keep the leftover mutable-ok markers for a follow-up"
