fix(responses): resume background response streams with stream and starting_after (#48819)
* fix(responses): resume background response streams with stream and starting_after
Retrieving a response with stream=true and starting_after=N now returns the
replayed event stream from OpenAI and Azure instead of one JSON object, on the
SDK (get_responses / aget_responses) and on the proxy's GET /v1/responses/{id}
Providers that cannot replay a stored stream drop the params under drop_params
and raise UnsupportedParamsError without it. Malformed values answer 400 with
the param named. A replay that reaches its terminal event settles the
background response's bill once and passes the provider's usage through
without estimating one. An empty replay (cursor at the end) ends normally
* fix(responses): encrypt replayed stream ids and resume Azure AI Foundry streams
A replayed background stream now gets the same response id encryption as a
created one, so the key that made the response can reuse the id. Azure AI
Foundry deployments resume streams like Azure ones, and the chat-bridged
Responses iterator closes its wrapped stream instead of raising.
* fix(responses): drop malformed resume params under drop_params and keep JSON answers to a streamed retrieve
A bad stream flag drops to a plain retrieve and a bad cursor to a full replay when drop_params is on, and a cursor without stream is ignored even when malformed. A streamed retrieve that the upstream answers with JSON returns the response object instead of an empty stream. get_responses forwards only the include keys from extra_query.
* fix(responses): give proxy stream resumes the deployment stream_timeout and document retrieve query params
* fix(responses): keep deployment stream off retrieves and reject oversized cursors
* fix(responses): keep router default stream off plain retrieves
* test(responses): black box coverage for resume refusals, drop_params, stream timeout and billing
* test(responses): replay a real stream in the billing test and type the fake wrapper chunks

fix(guardrails): skip embeddings input in google_text_moderation (#48934)
* fix(guardrails): skip embeddings input in google_text_moderation and openai_moderations Since v1.103.0 the proxy dispatches these legacy moderation callbacks on every route, and they read the embeddings input field as text, so benign embedding inputs were blocked. Return early for embedding call types, matching the Aim and Cato guardrails. * test(guardrails): type the embeddings moderation test parameters * fix(guardrails): keep openai_moderations moderating embeddings, skip only google_text_moderation Google's moderation scores topic categories like Finance and Health, so it blocks documents being indexed by subject. OpenAI's moderation scores harm categories only, so it keeps moderating embedding input as it has since v1.103.0 * fix(guardrails): skip Gigachat passthrough embeddings in google_text_moderation Treat an allm_passthrough_route call whose endpoint ends in embeddings as non-conversational, log the skip, return None from the early exit, and type the hook's data so the basedpyright gate does not grow * fix(guardrails): match only plain embeddings passthrough paths in google_text_moderation --------- Co-authored-by: mateo-berri <277851410+mateo-berri@users.noreply.github.com> |

fix(logging): stop dumping the request body at every layer under --detailed_debug (#48973)
* fix(logging): stop dumping the request body at every layer under --detailed_debug The proxy dumped the full request body at every layer it passed through (proxy entry, pre-call, router, SDK call echo, param mapping, logging object), so one Codex "hi" wrote over 500KB of debug log. Keep the inbound request line and the outgoing provider request, summarize large values in the SDK call echo, and stop per-request lines that report nothing (callback disable checks with no disable header, cost map name probes, response id decode misses, vector store path misses). * fix(logging): summarize tools in the param mapping debug lines Non-Default params and Final returned optional params still printed full tool definitions, so a Codex-style request repeated them twice more. Use the same size summary as the SDK call echo and cover tools in the test. * perf(logging): build the param mapping debug summary only when debug is on |

fix(guardrails)!: make hide-secrets honor skip_tool_message_in_guardrail (#48689)
* fix(guardrails): make hide-secrets honor skip_tool_message_in_guardrail With the flag on, per guardrail or in litellm_settings, hide-secrets leaves role: tool messages and Anthropic tool_result blocks as sent, as the unified guardrails do. Tool call arguments are still masked. * test(guardrails): type the skip-tool walker test and assert the whole request |

fix(files)!: scope provider and model file lists to the caller's managed files under require_managed_files (#47682)
* test(files): cover owner-scoped file listing under require_managed_files * fix(files): list only the caller's managed files on every list route under require_managed_files * fix(files): narrow owner-scoped managed file lists to the named provider or model and page with after_id and before_id * fix(files): narrow scoped lists the way uploads route, and refuse lists that cannot be scoped A model name now matches every deployment that serves it, wildcards and aliases included, and a provider matches deployments by the provider uploads resolve, so anthropic/* and unprefixed Claude models count. The OpenAI and Azure lists also return the caller's pass-through uploads. An unknown provider and different after and after_id cursors answer 400, and a list with no matching deployment skips the database read. * fix(files): match stored files by model name and keep flag-off lists as on main Under require_managed_files, a narrowed list now matches a file's model mappings by deployment id or model name, so files LiteLLM stores in its own database show on their model and provider lists. The Anthropic list defaults to 20 rows when no limit is sent, after_id, before_id and the cursor 400s apply only under the flag, and an admin keeps the provider list when the managed files hook is not loaded. List errors are returned as values and mapped to HTTP errors in one place. * fix(files): keep admin provider lists and index the owner-scoped walk Under require_managed_files, an admin keeps the provider list as on main, and only a non-admin list reads the caller's own and team managed files. A stored file now also shows on the provider its model name routes to through a wildcard, with exact model names first, and a list routed to a model takes the default page size of the provider serving it. A new index on created_by and created_at keeps each chunk of the walk an index read, and the model check runs before the file object is parsed. * fix(files): filter provider and model lists in the query A non-admin list scoped to a provider or model now asks Postgres only for the caller's rows that map to one of that scope's deployments or models, or that live in file storage, instead of reading every owned row and filtering them in Python. A caller with many files on other providers no longer waits for the whole set to be read. Team members' files are matched in the same query. * test(files): type the fake raw query in the files list tests * refactor(proxy): list managed files through one typed database handle * fix(files): list alias and routing-group storage uploads on their provider |

fix(batches): stop unbillable batches from blocking file deletes and new-batch polling (#48752)
* test(batches): cover the batch cost poller gaps left after #47190 * fix(batches): keep unbillable batches from blocking file deletes and new-batch polling The file delete check now ignores batches past MANAGED_OBJECT_STALENESS_CUTOFF_DAYS, a provider 404 for the output object retires the batch, each poll page takes the arrival lane first, a batch expires only after the poller visits it past the cutoff, and the compare-and-swap matches batch_processed instead of updated_at * test(batches): cover the full arrival page and a failed expiry write in the batch cost poller Old batches still get polled every other cycle while new batches fill the page, old batches that fill a page never push a new batch out after boot, and a failed stale_expired write no longer stops the rest of the page from being polled * fix(batches): share the poll page between old and new batches and hold output files until billed Each lane now gets at least half of the poll page, a lane with nothing left gives its half to the other, and a lane read that resumed mid-lane wraps to the start, so neither old nor new batches can starve the other. The delete guard applies the 7 day cutoff to input files only. Output and error files stay locked until the batch is billed or retired, and stale_expired rows no longer lock anything. Only a lasting provider failure expires a batch past the cutoff, so a timeout or a 5xx no longer gives up on a batch that may still bill. Past the cutoff a lasting failure, a lasting cost-tracking failure, or an output file id that never appeared retires a finished row instead of polling it forever. * fix(batches): retry refused finished batches past 7 days, expire unfinished ones on a failed retrieve A finished batch the provider refuses after 7 days (rotated key, bucket 403, a 404 that does not name the batch) now keeps retrying so its spend is written once the config is fixed, instead of retiring unbilled. A batch the provider still reports running keeps polling. A batch that is not finished in the database becomes stale_expired once a retrieve fails after 7 days, so an unreachable provider is not polled forever. An S3 NoSuchKey for the output object now counts as gone. * fix(batches): expire an unfinished old batch only after 3 failed retrieves in a row * fix(batches): keep retrying an unfinished old batch through timeouts, 429 and 5xx * fix(batches): wait 3 polls before expiring an old batch whose output id lags * fix(batches): match a resource id in a 404 message followed by punctuation * fix(batches): keep refusal and pending-output expiry streaks apart, and void a pending-output retirement on a client write * fix(batches): give up on unsettled batches past twice the staleness cutoff Replace the per-reason refusal and pending-output streaks with one give-up age, and inject a clock into the poller and the delete check so tests pin exact age boundaries * fix(batches): keep polling finished batches past the give-up age so their spend stays recoverable * test(batches): expect a restarted poller's first page to split between old and new batches * test(batches): pin the delete-guard tests to a fixed clock and type a new journal list * test(batches): type the provider helper and the storage 404 cases --------- Co-authored-by: mateo-berri <277851410+mateo-berri@users.noreply.github.com> |

feat(proxy): per-provider and per-model rpm/tpm requirements for enforce_project_model_quota (#47693)
* feat(proxy): per-provider and per-model rpm/tpm requirements for enforce_project_model_quota * test(proxy): cover per-provider and per-model enforce_project_model_quota policies * fix(proxy): keep enforce_project_model_quota reads typed * fix(proxy): apply the quota policy to model add, follow router wildcard rules, keep old setting values * fix(proxy): keep team model names off quota model entries, read the provider behind api_base, match patterns like the router A team admin picks a team model's public name, so a name matching an exempt model entry no longer skips its provider's limits. A mapping with no policy key keeps requiring both limits as before, the project create permission check runs before the setting is read, and an unprefixed model behind a known OpenAI-compatible api_base resolves to that provider * fix(proxy): re-check team projects on team model writes and validate quota provider ids * fix(proxy): check added limits on model updates and match team models by the model they call * fix(proxy): re-check team projects by every name a team model serves and check renamed names * fix(proxy): follow the router's order for tied team patterns and annotate quota tests * fix(proxy): match a team model's called model through JSON provider prefixes too * fix(proxy): keep model updates that keep their route as on main A PATCH or POST model update now checks only the limits its new route adds over the stored one, so removing or zeroing a limit on an unchanged route answers 200 again, under true and under a policy |

fix(guardrails)!: redact secrets in tool traffic and system prompts (#47122)
* fix(guardrails): redact secrets in tool traffic and Anthropic system * fix(guardrails): bound tool payload scans and stop nested tool_result recursion Scan each tool value beside its key instead of an indented dump, read tool_result content one level deep, keep non-finite tool arguments as raw text, and give read-only guardrails one fragment per tool payload * test(guardrails): cover read-only guardrail consumers of tool and system text * fix(guardrails): keep tool argument parsing, scanning and tests within bounds Treat tool arguments that decode to a lone surrogate as raw text, decode JSON-escaped detections back to the leaf value, quote unkeyed leaves without repeating a parent key per list item, drop cycle tracking that parsed JSON cannot reach, and use the CI license instead of a fake license server * fix(guardrails): scan list items beside a capped parent key List items keep their parent key in the scanned JSON line, capped to its last 64 characters, so a credential key over a list is still detected while a long key over many items no longer multiplies the scan text * fix(guardrails): cap the scanned key after JSON escaping A key of control characters escaped to six times its length after the cap, so every list item's scan line grew with it * fix(guardrails): collapse whitespace in the scanned key context Space-heavy keys made every inherited list item scan several times slower than a short key * fix(guardrails): build each key's scan context once per payload Repeating the collapse, escape and cut for every list item made a long key over many items cost key length times item count * fix(guardrails): cover Responses tool call items and instructions Responses carries the same tool call arguments and system prompt as chat and messages under function_call.arguments, custom_tool_call.input and instructions, so secrets there reached the provider unscanned * perf(guardrails): skip rescanning text hide-secrets already found clean Agents resend their whole conversation on every turn, so each turn rescanned every earlier tool result. Each guardrail now keeps a bounded set of digests of scan inputs that held no secret and skips those; text with a secret is always rescanned and no secret material is kept * fix(guardrails): size the clean-scan cache for many sessions and replace longest secrets first 4096 digests held about 20 long agent sessions per worker, so interleaved sessions evicted each other and every resend rescanned its history; 65536 digests (about 10 MB) hold a few hundred. Tool payload secrets are now replaced longest first after JSON unescaping, so a shorter overlapping match cannot leave part of a secret behind. The key-context test checks the work it bounds instead of wall-clock time, which CI could not meet * fix(guardrails): keep unmasked tool argument text and redact keyword matches cut inside an escape * fix(guardrails): write a tool visitor's whole payload when it changes more than string values * fix(guardrails): read message text before tool and system text so a vendor error on the new text cannot skip it * fix(guardrails): moderate tool and system text in its own call so a long payload cannot hide a flagged message * fix(guardrails): skip the empty moderation call when only tool or system text is present * fix(guardrails): scan long multi-line tool strings as their own lines so the scan stays linear * fix(guardrails): keep the key beside every line of a long multi-line tool string * fix(guardrails): confine tool-traffic coverage to hide-secrets Restore iter_message_text to its main behavior, so banned keywords, Azure Content Safety, IBM detectors and the OpenAI and Google moderation hooks read exactly what they read on main. Only walk_user_text, which hide-secrets alone calls, still reaches system, instructions and tool payloads. * test(guardrails): stop the tool-traffic integration tests from flaking on a busy host Use the shared per-case timeout for the rig client, and open a new connection per call in the worker-kill burst so a pooled keep-alive socket to the killed worker is never reused. * test(guardrails): drop the wall-clock check from the deep tool arguments unit test The integration test test_deeply_nested_tool_arguments_do_not_stall_the_worker already covers the timing; the unit test keeps the redaction check. --------- Co-authored-by: yucheng-berri <293926326+yucheng-berri@users.noreply.github.com> |

refactor(mcp): drop the experimental label from the MCP server and client paths (#48513)
* refactor(mcp): drop the experimental label from the MCP server and client paths Move litellm/proxy/_experimental/mcp_server to litellm/proxy/mcp_server and litellm/experimental_mcp_client to litellm/mcp_client, with the mirrored tests moved under tests/unit/proxy/mcp_server and tests/unit/mcp_client. Both old packages stay as shims that warn with DeprecationWarning, re-export the new package's public names and alias every submodule in sys.modules so deep imports keep resolving to the same objects. The OpenAPI docs gate now puts the merge base's enterprise package on PYTHONPATH so its base counts do not mix the checked-out enterprise code with the base litellm tree Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * ci(mcp): keep tests/unit/proxy/_experimental as a sharded root for the shim tests Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(mcp): alias namespace subpackages and bind attributes in the deprecated MCP shims pkgutil.walk_packages skipped mcp_server/auth because it has no __init__.py, so old imports of litellm.proxy._experimental.mcp_server.auth.* failed, and sys.modules entries alone left litellm.experimental_mcp_client.tools unreachable as an attribute. Walk the package on disk and setattr each alias on its old parent. refactor(typing): clear 1181 basedpyright Any errors across 431 files (#47789)
* refactor(typing): narrow Any sources across providers, proxy and guardrails (wave 1) * refactor(typing): narrow Any sources across hubs, providers and proxy (wave 2) * refactor(typing): validate RunwayML task JSON and let dotprompt loaders accept exported prompts * fix: restore pass-through behavior on paths the typing pass tightened MCP client IP extraction trusts X-Forwarded-For only when use_x_forwarded_for is True, dotprompt skips a malformed JSON prompt entry instead of raising, RunwayML task payloads pass through unvalidated, and a malformed provider body raises the same AttributeError as before at the CompactifAI, Gemini, and mock transport parse sites * fix(runwayml): keep a malformed 2xx task body on the 500 path * fix(edenai, cli): keep a non-object body in the error and fail on a malformed migration report EdenAI's embedding and image generation parse dropped a non-object body from the error they raised, so the message no longer named what the provider sent. A helper now raises with the body in the message, and both paths have a regression test. `lite encryption migrate` exited 0 with no message when the proxy's report was not an object or its residual_legacy was not a number, where base crashed. It now fails with a message naming the value. The CompactifAI and Gemini image-edit non-object body tests accept TypeError or AttributeError, which both base and this branch raise, so they guard against a ValidationError instead of pinning one class. RunwayML's async parse gets the same non-object body test as the sync one. * fix: keep base's error classes, duck-typed checks and fail-closed guardrails the typing pass changed * test: annotate the new regression tests' locals with Final * test: annotate the remaining new test locals with Final |

fix(responses): send the billed background response cost to the creating key's and team's loggers (#47506)
* test(responses): the billed background response cost reaches the creating key's and team's loggers * fix(responses): send the billed background response cost to the creating key's and team's loggers * fix(responses): bill an unreadable or rejected creator through proxy loggers, redact and honor disabled callbacks on the billed event * fix(responses): follow the creator's message logging setting on the billed event and read team logging for non-key creators The billed event no longer forces redaction. It follows the creating key's or team's turn_off_message_logging, else the proxy's, and redacts when the creator cannot be read or its settings are rejected. A creator without a virtual key hash bills through its team's settings. function_setup keeps its original callback split, and the billed path uses a separate non-mutating helper. * fix(responses): bill rotated, deleted, and custom auth creators through their own logging and retry failed creator lookups * fix(responses): follow a key's whole grace-period rotation chain to the live key for its billed charge's logging * fix(responses): bill a background response whose creator cannot be read, without the creator's settings * docs(enterprise): say the background response row is claimed before its creator is read * fix(responses): keep the loaded creator rows' budgets and aliases when one creator lookup fails |

feat(proxy): map baggage values to budget tags (#47358)
* feat(proxy): map baggage values to budget tags * fix(proxy): preserve mapped tags in the parsed request cache * fix(proxy): preserve mapper accounting and tag policy * fix(proxy): preserve baggage tags across native transports * fix(proxy): keep mapper rejection and passthrough logging safe * fix(proxy): scope baggage tag mappings to billed inference and keep them out of tag routing Mapped tags now apply only to billed LLM API routes, skipping token counting, model listing, MCP and A2A. They classify spend and budgets but never select deployments unless a key, team or client set the same tag. WebSocket inference returns 403 only while a required rule exists. A tag created with /tag/new resets its spend counter so its budget counts from creation. The General settings editor keeps a new mapping unsaved until every required field is filled in. * fix(proxy): keep client-tag rejection identical with baggage, map A2A calls, skip request previews * fix(proxy): keep mapped tags out of requester metadata, answer 503 on tag lookup errors, map custom pass-through routes, check the key before the WebSocket 403 * fix(proxy): keep caller-sent tags routable, keep mapped tags out of policy and guardrail matching, honor allow_requests_on_db_unavailable, reject control characters in baggage values * test(proxy): cover baggage tag mappings end to end Adds integration cells for request_tag_mappings across chat, messages, responses, A2A and custom pass-through spend, required and budgeted rules, the WebSocket refusal, unbilled routes, reject_clientside_metadata_tags, tag routing and policy isolation, a dropped tag read with and without allow_requests_on_db_unavailable, and the /tag/new spend counter reset * fix(proxy): keep base tag merges for requests that map nothing, accept JSON-string metadata tags, count litellm_metadata caller tags Requests with no mapped baggage now reuse the cached body exactly as before, so header and key tag merges still normalize metadata for routing. The client body copy is made only when a tag maps, and the base merges are mirrored onto it. A request that maps nothing no longer gets a 400 for non-object metadata. caller_tags now counts tags sent in both metadata and litellm_metadata. Optional mappings no longer reject JSON-string metadata tags under reject_clientside_metadata_tags. * fix(router): keep baggage-mapped tags from selecting tag-scoped pre-routing strategies Auto, complexity, adaptive and quality router selection, the consumed-tags stamp and compression policy lookup now read request tags without baggage-mapped tags, unless the caller sent the tag or the key, team or project carries it, matching deployment tag filtering. * feat(proxy): parse baggage headers into request tag mappings * fix(proxy): match plus-sign baggage keys and keep deployment tags in guardrail modes * fix(proxy): keep baggage-mapped tags behind key, team and deployment tags and serve non-object or invalid DB mapping settings like unset Mapped tags are added after the key, team, deployment and caller tags, so a tag-mode guardrail picks the same mode with or without baggage. A non-object metadata field maps like empty metadata, and an invalid request_tag_mappings value loaded from the DB is ignored with an ERROR log instead of failing every request * fix(router): merge deployment tags in linear time and keep malformed client tags as sent under mapped baggage Merge serving deployment tags into the request tags in one pass, so a large client tag list no longer blocks the event loop. Leave a non-list metadata.tags untouched when baggage maps a tag, so the request gets the same answer as without baggage. Add the C17 integration cell for the team tag's guardrail mode under a mapped deployment tag. * test(spend): cover string metadata.tags under mapped baggage * fix(proxy): check mapped tag budgets when metadata.tags is a non-list or holds non-strings Mapped baggage tags are applied again after the header and key tag merges, so a header or key tag that replaces a string metadata.tags no longer hides the mapped tag from the tag budget check. An empty or false metadata.tags is read like a missing one, and a tags list with non-string items is kept as sent with the mapped tags added after it, instead of failing auth with a 401 |

fix(batches): apply the Vertex regional endpoint uplift to batch cost (#47466)
* fix(batches): apply the Vertex regional endpoint uplift to batch cost batch_cost_calculator takes vertex_location and multiplies by the model's regional_endpoint_uplift_multiplier through get_vertex_regional_endpoint_uplift, and every batch cost path (aretrieve_batch pricing, completed-batch logging, native Vertex batch rows, the proxy batch cost poll and its per-line items) resolves the deployment's location and passes it down Co-authored-by: Mrun25 <165297479+Mrun25@users.noreply.github.com> * test(logging): point the resolver tests at resolve_vertex_location_for_cost --------- Co-authored-by: devin-ai-integration[bot] <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Mrun25 <165297479+Mrun25@users.noreply.github.com> |

fix(managed_files): send provider file ids when creating a fine-tuning job from managed files (#46552)
* fix(managed_files): send provider file ids when creating a fine-tuning job from managed files Fine-tuning job creation with a managed training file sent the gateway's managed id and the provider-prefixed deployment model to OpenAI, which rejected the job. The pre-call hook now builds the file id mapping for training_file and validation_file, the deployment hook swaps both, the SDK strips the provider prefix from the model, and the create response returns the caller's own file ids * fix(managed_files): route managed fine-tuning creates only to deployments holding every file Fine-tuning creates now narrow routing the same way managed batches do, so a deployment added after the upload is never picked. Adds a two-worker chaos integration test and runs tests/unit/fine_tuning in the endpoints shard. * fix(managed_files): keep fine-tuning creates on the model group when no deployment holds the files A managed file used on a model group it was never uploaded for kept failing with the provider's 400 before the routing filter. The filter turned that into a 429 no-deployments error, so fine-tuning now falls back to the whole group in that case while batch input files keep routing only to deployments that hold them. * test(fine_tuning): cover the provider prefix strip for OpenAI and Azure creates through the proxy * test(fine_tuning): start each multi-deployment case from an empty upstream log * test(fine_tuning): boot both proxies of the late deployment cell on one scratch database --------- Co-authored-by: yucheng-berri <293926326+yucheng-berri@users.noreply.github.com> |

refactor(typing): clear 1143 basedpyright Any errors across 273 files (#46574)
* refactor(typing): narrow Any sources in proxy, guardrails, bedrock and responses code Turns untyped json.loads, response.json(), header lookups and forwarded kwargs into object or precise types at their source, so downstream code type-checks without reportAny / reportExplicitAny. No runtime behavior changes. * refactor(typing): narrow Any sources in caching, MCP, providers and proxy request code Decoded JSON, cache reads and header lookups now enter as object or precise types, prisma tables used by the shadow-eval logger get typed Protocol views, and a few SDK parameters move from dict[str, Any] to Mapping[str, object]. No runtime behavior changes. * refactor(typing): narrow Any sources in proxy server, router, logging and shared utils * refactor(typing): narrow Any sources in provider transformations, integrations and proxy endpoints * refactor(typing): narrow Any sources across providers, proxy and router Deepens the Any cleanup on the hottest files: typed helpers in core_helpers for attribute and item access, identity TypeAdapter(object) wraps at untyped boundaries, explicit return annotations on shared provider and proxy helpers, and Protocols in place of Any parameters. * fix(proxy): reset batch line-item flag when the setting is absent
Removing store_batch_line_items_in_callbacks from the DB general settings left the module flag at its previous value because the effect early-returned when the key was neither in the DB nor owned by YAML. The proxy owns the global, so an absent resolved value now writes False.

* fix(batches): skip batch line-item events in ClickHouse spend sink and router quota counters (#44486)
* fix(batches): skip batch line-item events in ClickHouse spend sink and router quota counters
Batch line-item callbacks (call_type=acompletion + litellm_params.batch_parent_id)
bypassed the call-type-only batch guards:
- ClickHouseSpendLogger wrote one spend row per line on top of the aggregate
aretrieve_batch row, billing every batch twice with the flag on.
- Router deployment callbacks and the routing-strategy usage handlers charged the
historical batch's tokens/rpm to the live TPM/RPM counters, so after
Router.aretrieve_batch the next chat raised RouterRateLimitError.
Skip these events wherever the aggregate batch retrieve is already skipped.
* fix(logging): keep internal litellm_params authoritative in model_call_details
A request body key named litellm_params lands in optional_params, and
update_environment_variables merged **optional_params after the internal
entry, so a caller could overwrite the logging kwargs' litellm_params and
forge markers like batch_parent_id. Live-reproduced: a Gemini chat whose
body carried {"litellm_params": {"batch_parent_id": ...}} returned 200
with no ClickHouse spend row. Re-assert the internal litellm_params after
the merge so every sink (ClickHouse, Postgres, router quota counters)
reads the same trusted value, and assert the aggregate aretrieve_batch
row still writes in the ClickHouse line-item test (review finding).
* fix(clickhouse): skip failed batch line items in the spend sink too
A failed JSONL line is part of the aggregate aretrieve_batch row's
request counts; writing it its own spend_logs row inflated request
counts with the line-item flag on. Extend the batch line-item guard to
the failure handler (review finding) and pin both directions: a failed
line item writes no row, a genuine live failure still does.
* fix(batches): declare batch_line_items service family on claim calls
Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com>
* fix(integrations): keep batch line items out of the built-in metering sinks
With store_batch_line_items_in_callbacks on, per-line batch events carry a
real response_cost and reached six metering sinks that lacked the
is_batch_line_item_event guard, so a completed batch metered aggregate +
per-line (roughly 2x true spend): prometheus (litellm_spend_metric and
request counters), openmeter, lago, datadog cost management (FOCUS
BilledCost), newrelic metrics, and the OTel v1/v2 gen_ai.usage.cost
metrics. Skip line-item events in each sink's success/failure metering
entry points, matching the guards already on the Postgres and ClickHouse
spend sinks. OTel spans for line items are still emitted; only their
cost/token metrics are skipped. Tests drive real sink instances on the
real dispatch lists through a completed 2-line batch and assert each
sink meters exactly the aggregate.
* style: format metering-sinks test
Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com>
* fix(otel): skip synthetic line-item durations in v2 metrics; isolate prometheus test
Follow-ups from review on the sink guards: record_failure() now skips
batch line items too (a failed line's interval measures retrieval and
emission, not its model call), and the prometheus guard test snapshots
and restores the process-wide registry collectors instead of leaving
them unregistered. The OTel v2 test is now a flag on/off A/B over the
whole metric snapshot: cost and usage values must match exactly and no
metric may gain datapoints with the flag on.
* chore: finish main merge conflict resolution for batch line items
Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com>
* style: sort imports in litellm_logging after main merge
Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com>
* test(batches): use the public hook class names main now exports
* fix(batches): only the batch writer can mark a callback event as a line item
amoderation, transcription and speech build litellm_params from every request kwarg,
so a body field named batch_parent_id reached Logging.litellm_params and every
spend, budget and rate-limit hook skipped the request. update_environment_variables
now drops an incoming batch_parent_id; the line-item writer sets it through
Logging.mark_batch_line_item. Batch line hidden params are emitted only when set.
* chore(batches): keep the lint gates within main's ceilings after the merge
Typed the helpers main now types (Mapping litellm_params, Any Span), replaced the
banned cast with a literal match, dropped isinstance checks main made redundant,
and moved test-quality reasons onto the lines the gate reads.
* fix(anthropic): read the message id off the validated message
The anthropic_messages logging path can hand over an already parsed message object,
which has no .get; main read its id through getattr, so take it from the validated
AnthropicResponse instead.
* fix(batches): an unreadable error file no longer drops the output line events
Costing counts an error file it could not fetch as no failed lines; line logging
refetched it and the raise aborted the whole fan-out, so the successful lines were
never emitted. The error file now reads as empty with a warning.
* test(batches): pin billing for batch_parent_id on every endpoint and value shape
Chat completions, embeddings, responses and messages join moderations, speech and
transcriptions, and speech is driven with an empty, int, list, object and 5 KB value.
* test(batches): bill every request of a concurrent burst mixing forged and plain bodies
* revert: keep the line-item fan-out all-or-nothing on an unreadable error file

fix(responses): bill a background response once, on the first read or poll that sees it finished (#45703)
* fix(responses): bill a background response once, from the poll job
Reading a completed background response with GET /v1/responses/{id} wrote a
full-cost spend row on every read, on top of the row the background cost poll
writes. Reads of a Responses object (GET, DELETE, cancel) now never bill, and
the poll job is the single biller.
The poll job now bills with the creating request's attribution (key hash, team,
org, user, aliases, tags) read off the managed object row, through a helper it
shares with the batch cost poll. The background create persists the creating
key and request tags so that attribution survives until the poll runs.
* test(proxy): a background response read reports zero cost
* fix(responses): bill a background response once, on the first read or poll that sees it finished
A conditional update moves the stored row out of queued or in_progress so only one worker or pod bills it, through one re-read stamped with the creator's attribution. A failed billing read puts the row back for the next poll
* fix(responses): keep the caller's response id out of the billing failure warning
* fix(responses): keep the creating client's User-Agent tags on the one background charge
* fix(responses): keep managed background reads free and bill each response once
The managed files hook marks reads and cancels of proxy-issued response ids, so only those stay free. SDK and database-less reads of a background response still bill, extra_body background creates are tracked, and the poll's status read no longer cools down a deployment on a 404.
* fix(responses): bill finished background responses from the fetched body and store rows Postgres accepts
* fix(responses): give the background billing event its own spend log row and bill responses the create left untracked
* fix(responses): narrow the managed files hook with a protocol instead of an enterprise import
* fix(responses): leave a read the caller retargets with client-side credentials to the cost poll
* fix(responses): bill background responses on the creator's end user and report the charge on the settling read
The read that settles the bill returns the charge in x-litellm-response-cost, the billed event
carries the creator's end user and the key, team, and user budget fields, and its spend row is
named after the id the client got. Override reads, cancels, and deletes settle from the
configured deployment, a streamed create marks its row billed, stored rows keep no model
output, and model insights counts the billed row's spend without a request.
* test(responses): cover background response billing across proxies, reads and chaos
* fix(responses): settle background billing only for callers allowed to address the response
A delete now settles the bill only after the response id access check passes, a streamed
create is marked billed when it sets background inside extra_body or its completed event
arrives after the last chunk, the billing event keeps the deployment's litellm_params
base_model, a key with no user and no team bills no user instead of its owner scope, and the
enterprise cost check import is optional
* fix(responses): record the bound on the pending status IN filters
* fix(responses): send the billed cost split on the settling read and keep the batch cost event as it was
The read that settles a background response now sends the whole cost header
family from the billed event, so the breakdown headers add up to the charge.
Batch cost events go back to main's attribution (creator id as the user, no
budget fields); only background responses get the end user and budgets.
Integration tests expect the charge on the settling read (or none when the
poll billed first), one charge for a streamed create, and SDK flows that poll
with the id each read returns.
* fix(responses): bill each background response once across upgrades, streams, and failed settles
Rows stored before this billing model are found by the issued id and rekeyed by the
provider id, and the cost poll retires one a read already billed. A streamed background
create is free on its own and bills the finished response through the same managed row
before the client sees response.completed, so a racing read cannot bill it again. A
settle that fails retries in the background, a retargeted read with no row tracks and
bills from the configured deployment, and a delete keeps its billed cost header.
Reverts the unrelated json.dumps narrowing in the completion transformation.
* fix(responses): bill cache-polled background streams and match poll rows by the issued id
* test(responses): cover deletes, failed settles, budgets, base models, and cache-polled background billing
Adds integration cells for the background response billing paths the audit
inventory lists: a DELETE that settles the bill and refuses a stranger, a
settle the database refuses that retries once it recovers, the Prometheus
remaining budget, base_model pricing from model_info and litellm_params, the
daily model usage rollup, the end user, the settling read's cost split, stored
rows without model output, a forged managed marker on the create, streamed
creates with background in extra_body, and the cache-polled create

fix(xai): name a completed xAI batch's results file and stop looking it up on xAI's files API (#45559)
* fix(xai): report a completed xAI batch's results as its output file details * fix(xai): keep a short results download and per-call timeouts out of the reported file details * fix(xai): describe a batch's results file from the batch alone and let the batch job fill its size Reading an xAI batch id as a file now costs one batch read and never downloads the results: the file reports a 0 byte placeholder, the results filename and the registration time. The managed proxy fills in the size the batch cost job measures when it downloads the results, keeps a known size when a provider reports none, and drops the per-process results download cache. * fix(managed_files): keep a measured batch output size when a refresh races the batch job A refresh that read the row before the batch cost job stored the measured size could save the provider's unsized details over it. The refresh now reads the row back from the writer and saves only while the row still holds what it read, retrying when another write landed in between. The new tests drive the real xAI and OpenAI retrieve paths through a fake HTTP upstream. * fix(managed_files): guard the refresh save with the row the request already read The conditional save first compares against the row the request read, so a refresh adds no database read unless another write landed in between; only then does it read the row back from the writer and try again. * fix(managed_files): save a refreshed file object with one guarded write and no extra database reads A refresh that loses its guarded write to a newer one now leaves that row alone and drops this worker's cached copy, so the next read loads the newer row instead of retrying against the database on the request path * fix(managed_files): retry the batch cost job's measured size after a read refreshes the row first The batch cost job re-reads the row from the writer and saves again when its guarded write loses to a concurrent refresh, so its measured size is never dropped. Reads without a measured size still make one write and no re-read * fix(managed_files): size a concurrently refreshed row instead of restoring the batch job's placeholder copy When the batch cost job loses its guarded write and the row it re-reads holds refreshed details, it applies its measured size to those details, so the results filename and any size the provider reported are kept * fix(managed_files): keep a batch output's earlier created_at when a refresh replaces its placeholder A refresh saved over a stored row now keeps the earlier of the two creation times, so an xAI placeholder keeps the time the proxy registered it instead of the read time, while a provider's own earlier creation time still wins * test(integration): an xAI placeholder row keeps its registration time after the proxy refreshes it * test(integration): drop the cached output row so the placeholder cell reads the seeded database row * test(integration): drop the cached output row without requiring it to still exist * fix(managed_files): limit the batch output size fill, guarded save and kept created_at to xAI rows * fix(xai): keep the batch id as the batch output filename Managed xAI batch output files keep the filename main already returns (the batch id) instead of renaming them to <batch id>_results.jsonl. --------- Co-authored-by: yucheng-berri <293926326+yucheng-berri@users.noreply.github.com> |

fix(managed_files): enforce input file ownership on batch and fine-tuning create (#45855)
* test(managed_files): pin ownership checks on batch and fine-tuning create Tenant B can create a batch or fine-tuning job from tenant A's managed file id today. These fail on main for acreate_batch input_file_id and acreate_fine_tuning_job training_file and validation_file * fix(managed_files): check input file ownership on batch and fine-tuning create Batch create and fine-tuning create only mapped the managed input file to provider ids and never checked who owned it, so any key with access to the model could build a batch or job on another tenant's file and then own the outputs. Both now run check_file_ids_access like chat and responses do, which 403s a non-owner and 404s a managed id with no ownership row. Fine-tuning also checks validation_file, which was never looked at * test(batches): pin that a pre-call ownership denial stops every batch create branch LIT-4797 noted an endpoint-level check missed the load-balanced branch because it dispatches first. The ownership check lives in the pre-call hook, which runs before branch selection, so a 403 there must keep both the load-balanced and unified-file branches from reaching the router * test(integration): pin managed-file ownership on batch and fine-tuning create Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(managed_files): check ownership before the batch rate limiter reads the input file and keep key-owned resources across key regenerate Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> --------- Co-authored-by: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> |

fix(proxy): keep keys and projects on the same team (#44165)
* fix(key mgmt): a project may only be attached to keys of its own team A project is created under exactly one team, and its budget and models are validated against that team's. Nothing checked that a key's team matched, so `POST /key/generate` with `team_id: team-a` and a `project_id` owned by `team-b` answered 200 and stored exactly that — a key belonging to team-a, recorded under team-b's project and validated against its models and budget. The same held with no team at all. It needs no proxy-admin rights: an admin of team-a who is a member of no other team can issue keys under another tenant's project with nothing but the project id, and that tenant sees the spend without having granted anything. `_check_project_key_limits` now takes the key's team and refuses a project owned by a different one, before the model and budget checks so the refusal reads as what it is. A project with no owning team is left alone — nobody owns it, so there is no boundary to cross. `/key/update` passes the key's stored team when the request does not carry one, and now runs the check whenever the project itself is set or changed, which a request that moves only the project previously skipped. Two existing cells needed the project's team passed explicitly: they measure the model allowlist, not tenancy, and would otherwise have been asserting model behaviour on a request the new gate refuses. A third builds an unowned project for the same reason. Fixes #41089 * fix(key mgmt): check project ownership on every key mutation path /key/update ran the project check only when project_id, models or max_budget were supplied, so a request that changed team_id alone left a foreign project attached. /key/regenerate never ran it at all. Both now go through one helper that validates the key as the mutation leaves it. On /key/generate the check moves after default_key_generate_params is applied, because that can supply team_id; it was rejecting a valid key whose team came from the defaults. Tests move into the mapped test file per CLAUDE.md. * test(key mgmt): read the project from the cache instead of patching the lookup The test-quality gate rejected the new cells: 12 TQ008 for patching `get_project_object`, an SDK internal, and 4 TQ001 for accept controls that could only fail by raising. The cells now seed `UserApiKeyCache` with the project, which is the idiom the neighbouring project cells already use and removes the patching. The accept controls are parametrised together with the rejecting ones, so each test function carries a real assertion. The three regenerate seams that stay stubbed each carry a reason. * fix(proxy): prevent cross-team project keys Co-authored-by: L4XB <lukas.buck@e-mail.de> Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(proxy): validate bulk key team changes Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * test(proxy): use behavioral assertions in project ownership tests Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(proxy): read project owner from the database for key ownership checks Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(proxy): read project ownership from the primary database under the lookup deadline Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(proxy): check project moves against the primary database team Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(proxy): run ownership checks after existing validation without the lookup deadline Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(proxy): type ownership writer reads Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * test(proxy): make ownership tests independent of runner salt and clock Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(proxy): check key project ownership after existing validation Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(proxy): run key project ownership right before the key row write Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(proxy): reject key project ownership before permission and budget writes Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(proxy): keep project object permission validation on the stored payload Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * style(proxy): format key regeneration update payload Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(proxy): invalidate the written permission id on bulk update and regenerate Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * test(proxy): audit project team ownership across endpoints, bulk paths and chaos Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(proxy): drop budget and permission rows written for a rejected cross-team key Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(keys): require project-team membership when regenerate binds a key to a team-owned project /key/{key}/regenerate and /key/regenerate accepted a team_id + project_id pair without checking that the caller belongs to the destination team, so a user with no team could regenerate their own key into another team and its project. Regenerate now requires a proxy admin or a member/admin of the project's team whenever the change lands the key on a team-owned project. Also adapts tests to main's premium_user_check rename, drops a duplicate import left by the merge, and replaces the created object-permission id cast with an isinstance check. * fix(keys): 404 a missing project before any key write, and match the project move refusal to its siblings A missing project_id on /key/service-account/generate and on both regenerate routes fell through to a foreign-key 500; regenerate had already written a deleted-token history row, and service-account generate left its budget and object-permission rows behind. The ownership check now answers 404 with the same message /key/generate uses, before any write, and the generate rollback covers it. The /project/update move refusal now uses ProxyException (bad_request, param team_id) like the delete-with-keys refusal. Tests: integration coverage for a team admin regenerating a team key into another team's project (403), the missing-project 404s with no history rows, and the unit test that never reached the ownership check is removed. * test(keys): keep the existing-permission case in the regeneration cache eviction test Parametrize the test over a key that already has an object_permission_id and one that mints a new row, so eviction under the key's existing permission id stays covered. --------- Co-authored-by: L4XB <lukas.buck@e-mail.de> Co-authored-by: yucheng <yucheng@berri.ai> Co-authored-by: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> |

fix(proxy): mark background responses stale_expired when provider returns 404 (#41724)
* fix(proxy): mark background responses stale_expired when provider returns 404 Responses deleted upstream (store=false / ZDR rows dropped after provider retention) now move to stale_expired on the poll instead of being retried every cycle until the 7 day stale cleanup. Rows whose poll went through their router deployment are the ones the provider actually dropped, so only those move to stale_expired. Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(proxy): resolve the deployment before fetching so via_router binds once Drops the reinitialised loop flag flagged by review and modernizes the moved annotation. fix(projects): show Projects to team and org admins and scope it correctly (#41325)

Both now use the same team access check as /team/info. * fix(ui): one shared Projects access rule for nav, data and actions The Projects query skipped global org_admin users, the page-visibility picker could never offer Projects, and New/Edit showed to users the backend would reject. Nav and queries now share one rule, Projects is selectable in the allowlist, New/Edit follow team_admin_editable_team_fields, and the project modal only lists teams the user administers. * fix(projects): record IN-list bounds for project visibility filters Both filters are bounded by one caller's team memberships and admin orgs. refactor(proxy): rename management/teams/access.py to authz.py (#44624)
access already means access groups in this codebase; authz names what the module decides (who may act on a team). Pure rename: every importer now uses authz, and access.py stays as a re-export because the published litellm-enterprise 0.1.73 wheel imports is_team_admin from it. |

refactor(types): replace Any with proven types in 137 files (#44478)
* refactor(types): prove runtime types at harness, search, rag and client boundaries Replace Any with adapter-validated types in the litellm.agent() harness, the search provider transformations, RAG ingestion and query, the vector store pre-call hook and registry, the galileo and opik logging integrations and the proxy client CLI. Each boundary gets unit tests for well-formed and malformed payloads. * chore(typing): prove types at more provider boundaries and restore search transformations Second pass over a2a, embedding, rerank, image, audio and small provider modules. Search transformations go back to their previous form because validating their response bodies would change the proxy status for malformed upstream bodies from 400 to 500. * refactor(types): prove types at logging, files, rerank, image, audio and management boundaries Replace Any with validated or annotation-only types in 37 more files: logging integrations, token counters, provider files/rerank/image generation/audio transcription transformations, pass-through logging handlers and management endpoints. No proxy HTTP status or error type changes. * refactor(types): prove types at repository, spend, files and router boundaries Replace Any with repository table accessors, validated mappings and annotation-only types in 33 more files: Prisma repositories, the enterprise batch and responses cost checkers, budget reservation, files endpoints, management endpoints, the policy registry, the adaptive and complexity routers and the secret managers. No proxy HTTP status or error type changes. * test(types): run the aiohttp transformation test in-process and cover repository row conversion The aiohttp chat transformation test no longer starts a server. It feeds the transformation a response whose json() returns the body under test. The proxy unit shards now exercise stored model rows whose params are JSON strings and the object permission create and update paths. |

fix(otel): nest cache spans under their operation and name service spans by purpose (#44150)
Response cache reads and writes open cache.get llm_response and cache.set llm_response phase spans with their Redis spans nested underneath, on the Python path and on the native Rust path, and deployment selection runs inside a route {model_group} phase so the cooldown, usage and model-id reads the router issues nest under it before chat {model}. The autorouter classifier call nests under that route phase as well and carries its typed internal origin on litellm.request.purpose, so it is told apart from the provider attempt. Service spans are named {service}.{verb} {target} from a low-cardinality key family the producer declares (llm_response, auth_objects, spend_counters, router_cooldowns, claude_code_session_router_binding, rate_limits, pod_lock, budget_reset, ...) instead of the raw method or a per-request pipeline length; a pipeline flush is targeted by the one family its ops share or by mixed with the sorted families on litellm.redis.families, a batch op keeps the family it was declared under whichever pipeline or standalone read settles it, and the ambient family labels Redis spans only, never the DB write-back a task spawned inside that context performs later. The raw method stays on litellm.service.call_type and on the Prometheus and Datadog labels. Caller attribution is carried across asyncio task boundaries on a ContextVar so forwarder-only chains no longer surface, the raw cache key is dropped from Redis span metadata, pipeline op counts land as an integer attribute, every call_type the Redis cache layer emits maps to a verb, and a scan over litellm/ and enterprise/ fails when a Redis producer, batch reservation included, declares no key family.
A V2 logger built for a key or team logging entry while the operator's V2 logger is already registered keeps only the exporters its own preset contributed, whether or not the operator holds credentials for that backend, so every chat span no longer reaches the operator's collector twice. A span the success callback has to open itself, with no pre-call carrier, starts at the provider handoff (api_call_start_time) instead of the logging object's creation.
