Add sync and async regression tests for the BaseLLMHTTPHandler streaming
path, which forwards provider response headers for the ~30 providers that
ride the generic handler and had no coverage. Also drop redundant setup
prose from the moonshot invoke test docstring.
The cost map shipped cognition/swe-1.7 at $2.50 in / $12.50 out per million with
$1.00 cache reads. Those are the Lightning numbers. Cognition's own model list at
https://docs.devin.ai/desktop/models has uid swe-1-7 at $0.50 / $2.50 with $0.20
cache reads, and uid swe-1-7-lightning at $2.50 / $12.50 with $1.00 cache reads,
so every swe-1.7 call has been costed at 5x since the entry landed.
swe-1.7 now carries the standard rates and the Lightning tier gets its own entry,
in both cost map copies. The source field on both moves to the desktop models page,
which is the one that lists both tiers.
* test: enforce PT012 so a pytest.raises block cannot hide dead assertions
`with pytest.raises(...)` stops at the first statement that raises. Anything
sequenced after it inside the block never runs, so an assertion written there is
never checked and the test still reports green.
Two sites were doing exactly that, and both assertions turned out to be wrong
once they started running. tests/llm_translation/test_prompt_factory.py asserted
the bedrock rejection names "requires at least one non-system message", which
holds. tests/proxy_unit_tests/test_proxy_server.py asserted the prisma startup
failure mentions "httpx.ConnectError", which never appears: the failure is an
httpx.ConnectError whose message is "All connection attempts failed", so that
test now asserts the type. Its DATABASE_URL override moves to monkeypatch, since
the old restore sat below the assertion and leaked the invalid URL into every
later DB test the moment the assertion started being able to fail.
The remaining 72 sites are rewritten without changing what they exercise: setup
that cannot raise moves above the block, a nested `patch` moves outside it, and
bodies with real control flow (a stream drain, an if/else on sync_mode, a
retry loop) move into a local closure the block calls.
Fixing PT012 unmasked two B017s, since ruff only reports a blind
pytest.raises(Exception) once the block holds a single statement.
tests/proxy_unit_tests/test_auth_checks.py narrows to the ProxyException
can_key_call_model actually raises. tests/local_testing/test_completion_cost.py
was asserting vertex_ai/medlm-medium has no cost entry, which stopped being true
at some point; that dead first half is gone and the rest of the test, which
checks medlm pricing resolves above zero, now runs instead of being skipped.
* chore(ci): ratchet TQ004 to 768 after the prisma test moved to monkeypatch
* test(lint): ban blind pytest.raises(Exception) with ruff B017
A bare pytest.raises(Exception) accepts whatever the body throws. The TypeError
a refactor introduces satisfies it exactly as well as the rejection the test was
written for, so the crash reads as a pass and the test never goes red.
All 111 existing sites are narrowed here. A runtime probe recorded the concrete
exception each one actually catches, and each site now names that type. Where
the code under test genuinely raises a bare Exception, the site pins a stable
slice of the message with match= instead.
Two sites tell on themselves. The shared responses-API cancel test raises
"custom_llm_provider is required but passed as None" rather than talking to a
provider at all, because cancel_responses takes a provider, not a model. And
test_bedrock_guardrails_with_streaming was the only test in its file still
passing without AWS credentials, because the NoCredentialsError boto3 raised
long before the guardrail ran satisfied the blind raises.
* fix(test): widen the openai batch-dispatch assertion to OpenAIError
The narrowed NotFoundError only holds where OPENAI_API_KEY is set. Without one
the SDK raises OpenAIError while building the client, long before any 404, so CI
went red. OpenAIError covers both and still rejects a TypeError from a refactor.
The swe-1.7 rates were briefly lowered to the standard tier. The docs page
records the API-served swe-1.7 as the Cerebras-served Lightning tier, so put
the matching rates back rather than have the cost map and the docs disagree.
Cognition also answers /v1/responses through the chat-completions bridge, the
same as every other provider in the JSON registry, so the endpoints support
matrix should say so instead of under-declaring it.
The swe-1.7 rates were carried over from the closed prior attempt and
match SWE-1.7 Lightning, 5x the SWE-1.7 Max and Medium rates the vendor
publishes. swe-1.6 was already on the standard tier, so the two entries
disagreed with each other. Both now read 0.5 in, 2.5 out, 0.2 cached per
million tokens.
Also drops the redundant registry comment in constants.py.
Cognition serves an OpenAI-compatible /v1/chat/completions endpoint, so it has been onboarded as
custom_llm_provider: openai. That books its traffic as OpenAI, which means OpenAI-specific cost
discounts and provider-level reporting apply to it.
Registers cognition through the JSON provider registry: a providers.json entry with
COGNITION_API_KEY and COGNITION_API_BASE, LlmProviders.COGNITION, the constants.py provider lists,
cost map entries for swe-1.6 and swe-1.7, the provider endpoints matrix, the dashboard provider
fields, and tests. JSON providers can now also be resolved from their base url alone, so an
api_base pointing at a known provider no longer falls through to an unresolved provider.
The generic container handler returned response.content for endpoints marked
returns_binary before it ran any status or error check, so a non-2xx answer
from the provider was handed back to the caller as raw bytes. Asking for the
content of a container file that does not exist returned the provider's 404
error body as an opaque payload instead of raising.
Move the check ahead of the binary short-circuit and apply it to every
container file endpoint, falling back to the response text when the error body
is not JSON.
Adds a chat_completions route module to litellm-core, mirroring the messages
route, plus Anthropic Messages and Bedrock Converse provider configs. The
per-model `rust: true` opt-in now covers /chat/completions for both providers.
The core accepts an allowlisted subset (text conversations, non-streaming) and
returns CoreError::Unsupported for anything else, so tool calls, multimodal
content and streaming fall back to the Python path transparently.
Resolves LIT-5698
Route fal.ai's openai/gpt-image-2 endpoints through a dedicated transformation that maps OpenAI image params (n, size, quality, output_format) into fal's schema, and register the model in the cost map.

* test: merge three stranded twins into the files that shadow them
The second mirror's last four files each share a filename with a live test, so
the previous commit could not move them. Three of the four turn out to be plain
additions: their classes collide with nothing in the live file, so the tests are
extra coverage that has sat unrun rather than a competing version of anything.
Appending them takes the three files from 156 collected tests to 196, and all
196 pass. The 40 recovered are 13 OCI cases covering key normalization,
credential validation, complete-URL building and image-url transformation, 15
management-endpoint cases covering empty-value handling and the premium check,
and 12 DeepSeek thinking-parameter cases.
One assertion had to change. test_map_reasoning_effort_none_does_not_enable_thinking
asserted that reasoning_effort='none' leaves no thinking key, while the handler
maps it to {'type': 'disabled'} on purpose, documented in map_openai_params as
the OpenAI-style way to ask for thinking off. The test's stated intent holds,
since disabled does not enable anything, so it now asserts the disabled mapping
instead of the key's absence. Two imports moved to module scope for the
appended code, and no live test was touched.
test_discoverable_endpoints.py is the one left. Its twin grew from 1268 lines
to 9434, 25 of its assertions fail against today's code, and only 5 of its 19
tests have no counterpart, so deciding what survives that rewrite is a
judgement about the endpoints rather than a merge. The allowlist now holds
exactly that file and that reasoning.
* test(oci): stop the OCI suite reading credentials from the environment
validate_environment falls back to os.environ for every OCI credential and only
defaults the region when OCI_REGION is unset, so on a machine with OCI
configured the missing-credential test finds credentials it never passed and the
default-region test builds a URL for the ambient region. The suite then passes
or fails depending on who runs it.
A fixture drops the seven OCI variables for the four classes this branch added
and for TestOCIChatConfig, which had the same dependency before any of this and
fails the same way: with OCI_USER and friends exported, two of its cases fail on
origin/litellm_internal_staging today.
clean env: 83 passed
ambient OCI env: 83 passed
Same numbers either way, where the pre-existing file gave 68 passed / 2 failed
under the second.
`assert False` inside a `try:` raises AssertionError, which the `except
Exception` right below it catches, so several tests reported green no matter
what the code did. `pytest.fail` raises Failed, a BaseException, and escapes.
A bare `a == b` statement is evaluated and discarded. Nine of those sat in
tests, and one was comparing against a model name the router never produces.
Selects B011, B015, B018, PT015, PLR0133 and PLW0127 in ruff-tests.toml
alongside F821, with all 50 existing violations fixed, so no budget file or
ratchet is needed. CI already runs this config over tests/.
ruff.toml excludes tests/* from `ruff check`, so nothing has ever checked the
test tree for names that do not exist. That matters more in tests than in
product code: a NameError inside a test whose body is wrapped in
`except Exception: pass` is swallowed, and the test reports green forever.
Adds ruff-tests.toml selecting F821 alone, wired into the lint workflow and
`make lint-ruff`, and clears every existing violation:
- 4 tests interpolated an unbound `e` into a `pytest.fail` message reached only
on the failure path, so the NameError, not the assertion, is what ran.
test_llm_guard_error_raising is the worst: it passes today with content
safety disabled entirely. It now asserts the 400 and its detail body.
- 5 sites construct BaseExceptionGroup, a 3.11 builtin, in a tree that still
supports 3.10. Guarded behind the exceptiongroup backport that anyio already
pulls in below 3.11.
- 9 missing imports (json, openai, Any, Final, HTTPException), including one in
a helper that catches HTTPException by a name it never imported, so the
challenge path it exists to detect raises NameError instead.
- 5 annotations naming types imported inside the function body, hoisted to
module scope or TYPE_CHECKING.
- 2 blocks of dead code: everything after a pytest.fail in
test_claude_agent_sdk, and an unused helper in test_end_users calling a
function defined in a different module.
- 1 error-path f-string in the router-settings doc test that masked the real
FileNotFoundError behind a NameError.
Only F821 for now. Widening the select list means ratcheting thousands of
pre-existing findings, so rules go in one at a time with their violations
already fixed.
Perplexity's Agent API model ids already start with perplexity/, so a litellm
model like perplexity/perplexity/glm-5.2 normalizes to model perplexity/glm-5.2
with custom_llm_provider perplexity. Every existing candidate in the cost map
lookup ladder reads that leading perplexity/ as the litellm prefix and strips
it, so the four new rows never matched and supports_reasoning, get_model_info,
and completion_cost all failed on them.
Add the doubled form as a last-resort candidate, tried after every candidate
tried today and still ahead of the capability generalization rules, so only
lookups that already raised can newly succeed. Sweeping all 3062 cost map keys
across the three _get_potential_model_names branches (8433 probes) shows 7
lookups change, all of them errors that now resolve: the 4 new perplexity rows
plus openrouter/openrouter/auto, /free, and /bodybuilder. Nothing regresses.
* test: run the 30 test files stranded in the second mirror
tests/litellm sat beside tests/test_litellm, which is the mirror the repo
convention names, and no job collected it. The allowlist called the directory
unresolved and assumed it was a duplicate. It is not: 30 of its 34 files have no
counterpart in the real mirror, so they are tests nobody has run since they were
written, not copies of tests that run elsewhere.
Moving them in is byte-identical, and it is what makes them run. Every one is
now claimed by a shard's test-path rather than by an allowlist entry, and the
216 tests they hold pass. Directories that needed to become packages did, since
several files are named test_transformation.py and pytest cannot import two of
those from non-package directories in one session.
Never running is why three assertions had drifted away from the code:
* nvidia.nemotron-super-3-120b max_output_tokens, 32000 -> 32768
* sambanova/MiniMax-M2.7 max_input_tokens, 204800 -> 196608
* the Vertex text-to-speech handler moved from data= to json=, so the test
reads the decoded body off the json kwarg instead of parsing the data one
The first two follow model_prices_and_context_window.json, which the catalog
sync keeps current; the third follows the handler. In all three the test was the
stale side.
The lint workflow ran test_no_hardcoded_secrets.py by path and now points at the
new one.
Four files stay behind. Each shares a filename with a live test whose contents
are disjoint from it, so landing those means merging test bodies, which is a
content review rather than a move. The allowlist entry now names those four and
records how many tests each would bring, in place of calling the whole
directory unresolved.
* fix(ci): keep the secret scan out of the mirror's conftest
The secret-scan job runs pytest under uv run --no-project, so its environment
holds pytest and nothing else. That worked while the file sat in tests/litellm,
which has no conftest, and broke the moment it moved into tests/test_litellm,
whose conftest imports litellm on collection: ModuleNotFoundError: No module
named 'dotenv', before a single test ran.
The file is a repo-wide static scan that imports only base64, os, re and pytest,
so it belongs with the other repo-wide checks in tests/code_coverage_tests,
which has no conftest, rather than in the package mirror. Installing the full
dependency set into a 15-second job to satisfy a conftest it does not use would
be the wrong trade.
Verified with the job's exact command:
uv run --no-project --with 'pytest==9.0.2' pytest \
tests/code_coverage_tests/test_no_hardcoded_secrets.py -q
1 passed in 0.47s
When the resolved deployment is provider openai and the model is GPT-5.6 or
newer, the cache control hook now writes prompt_cache_breakpoint on the
targeted content block and sets prompt_cache_options to explicit mode unless
the caller already passed one. The /v1/messages bridges carry the marker
through (the Responses bridge moves a marked system prompt into a developer
message, since top-level instructions cannot hold one). Breakpoint counting
and the stand-down check recognise both marker kinds, and client breakpoints
already present in messages are no longer subtracted from the cap twice.
Fixes#37509
Both /v1/messages bridges (Responses API adapter for openai/* and the
chat-completions adapter) now derive prompt_cache_key from the first 64
characters of metadata.user_id, next to the existing user mapping. The
chat bridge only sets it when the resolved provider advertises
prompt_cache_key in its supported params, so providers that reject
unknown params are unaffected. A prompt_cache_key sent explicitly by the
client always wins over the derived value.
Fixes#37508
On models without supports_mid_conversation_system, a system entry between
an assistant tool_use turn and the user tool_result turn became a user turn
in that position and the provider rejected the request ("tool_use ids were
found without tool_result blocks immediately after"). That run of entries
now goes right after the tool_result turn, where consecutive user turns
merge upstream. The converted turn also carries only role and content, as
the hoist did, so an entry with extra keys no longer 400s with "Extra
inputs are not permitted".
The e2e cache priming re-sends the identical first turn until its own cache
entry reads back before the reminder turn goes out, since Vertex can take a
few seconds to serve a freshly written entry.
A /v1/realtime connection to a Vertex AI Live model accepted the WebSocket
upgrade and then went silent: a stalled Google OAuth token fetch blocked the
handler before any session event, and the eventual failure closed the socket
with a bare 1011 and no error event, so callers saw an open socket, no frames,
and no reason.
Bound the pre-session token fetch with
REALTIME_CREDENTIAL_RESOLUTION_TIMEOUT_SECONDS (20s default) and, on any
realtime failure, send an OpenAI-style error event before closing with a reason
that names the failure. Close reasons are truncated by bytes, not characters,
since an over-long reason makes the close frame itself fail.
Add gemini-3.5-flash to the placeholder-scoping matrix and a regression test
that a natively signed parallel turn replays with no
skip_thought_signature_validator anywhere in the payload, the shape that was
producing empty text responses on 3.5.
Hoist the repeated placeholder expression into one constant and rewrite the
docstrings that restated their own assertions to say why the case matters
instead.
The proxy pre-creates the logging object before the router picks a deployment,
and the native /v1/messages handler never copied the deployment's
vertex_location into the logging params it updates, so cost resolution fell
back to the environment or the default region and priced every call on this
surface with the regional endpoint uplift. Copy the explicitly configured
location from the request's litellm params, the same source dispatch builds
the request URL from, and register the new regional_endpoint_uplift_multiplier
field in the cost map schema test.
Gemini returns a thoughtSignature on the first function call of a parallel
batch and leaves the siblings bare. When replaying that assistant turn,
litellm gave every unsigned call the skip_thought_signature_validator
placeholder, so a three-call turn went back with three signatures where
Gemini had produced one. Keep the placeholder for the first call only and
forward the siblings with whatever signature they actually carry, which is
usually none.
A trusted hostname over plain http would expose the bearer token or a
replayable SigV4 signature to network observers. Credentials now only ride
https, with localhost exempt so local MCP stubs keep working.
Web-search connector 1.1.0 and later return the machine-readable results in result.structuredContent and may leave the text block as prose, which the parser dropped.
