refactor(anthropic): rename llms/anthropic/pass_through to llms/anthropic/messages (#48510)
* refactor(anthropic): rename llms/anthropic/pass_through to llms/anthropic/messages Move the unified /v1/messages code out of a directory called pass_through, since it is not the passthrough feature. The inner messages sub-package becomes native, and the Vertex AI partner model experimental_pass_through package becomes messages. The old packages stay as import shims that warn once and alias every submodule in sys.modules, so old deep imports still resolve Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * refactor(anthropic): keep Final variables out of loops in the rename shim Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * test(anthropic): match the warning text in the rename shim test Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * refactor(anthropic): resolve old pass_through imports lazily through a meta path finder Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * refactor(anthropic): mark the alias loader spec restore for the type discipline gate Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * style(anthropic): format the renamed package shim Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * style(anthropic): keep the rebind-ok marker on the spec restore line Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * refactor(anthropic): carry the new package search path on alias specs Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * test(anthropic): declare the shim test locals Final Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> --------- Co-authored-by: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> |

refactor(llms): rename model-version transformation files to family names (#48509)
gpt_5_transformation.py becomes gpt_reasoning_transformation.py (OpenAI and Azure), the Bedrock anthropic_claude3_transformation.py files become anthropic_claude_transformation.py, anthropic_claude2_transformation.py becomes anthropic_legacy_text_completions_transformation.py, and vertex_ai_partner_models/llama3 becomes vertex_ai_partner_models/llama. Class and symbol names are unchanged. Co-authored-by: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> |

fix(router): log each dropped /v1/messages attempt through its own logging copy and open the retry without its usage (#45194)
* fix(proxy): keep a retried /v1/messages stream's spend log by logging the superseded attempt as a failure A /v1/messages stream the router retries before any content shares one logging object across both attempts. The superseded attempt's end-of-stream logging ran as a success (a usage-only or placeholder result) and claimed the request's one-shot success log, so the recovered stream's spend row was either missing or written under the superseded attempt's message id. The passthrough logging path now logs an Anthropic stream whose frames carry an `event: error` as a failure with whatever usage the provider reported, the way a dropped stream already does, and the router closes the superseded stream before it opens the retry so that logging is queued first. * fix(proxy): log a provider error frame through an attempt-scoped logging copy The error-frame failure stashed the superseded attempt's usage on the logging object the retry shares, so the retry's success log carried the failed attempt's token counts. The failure now logs through a copy of the logging object with its own model_call_details, and the helper moves into the Anthropic passthrough logging handler so the proxy streaming handler only routes by endpoint type. * fix(proxy): scope the error-frame failure log to streams closed at the frame A stream that ran to its end at the provider's error frame kept logging through the success route before this PR, and the attempt-scoped failure log is now taken only for a stream the router closed at that frame, with the copy made at the close so the retry's deployment never reaches it * fix(router): log each dropped /v1/messages attempt through its own logging copy and open the retry without its usage A /v1/messages stream dropped after message_start and retried in its model group shares one Logging object across attempts, so the retry's success log inherited the dropped attempt's stashed usage and exception, and a second drop never reached the failure handlers because the first had already marked the object as logged. The dropped attempt now dispatches its failure handlers through an attempt-scoped copy, and the router discards the stashed usage right before it opens the next attempt, on same-group retries and on every fallback hop, so a request that runs out of attempts still bills the last attempt's partial usage. * fix(router): dispatch chat stream failures through the attempt-scoped logging copy The router now clears a dropped attempt's stashed usage before every fallback hop, so the chat stream wrapper's queued failure log must read that usage from its own copy of the logging object, like the /v1/messages path already does. The stash test asserts through a real success log, the cooldown test reads a real Router's cooldown list, and the integration helpers carry full types. * test(vertex): give the stream wrapper's logging stub an attempt_scoped_copy * test: route the pass-through logging mock's attempt copy to itself and read the callback sink through a reader The pass-through failure test stubbed dispatch_failure_handlers on a spec'd MagicMock, which the attempt-scoped copy no longer reached, so the logging worker never finished. The integration tests kept earlier sink batches in a caller-owned list the helper mutated; a small reader keeps them instead. * test(router): use real Logging in fallback cooldown test Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(router): preserve superseded retry usage for billing Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(proxy): bill retry input after prior stream usage Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(proxy): track retry dispatch for terminal billing Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * test(router): use deterministic retry timestamp Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * test(router): avoid real clock in fallback tests Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(tests): remove duplicate streaming logger import Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(proxy): retain error-frame usage for exhausted retries * test(proxy): fix retry billing expectations and helper annotations * fix(proxy): preserve failure estimate without carried usage Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * refactor(proxy): audit retry helpers and fixtures Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * test(proxy): fix retry fixture timestamps Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * test(proxy): observe retry stash at attempt boundary Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(logging): keep terminal failure attribution when dropped attempts log on copies Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(logging): publish a dropped attempt's payload only while it is still the current attempt Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * test(proxy): cover spend-log encoding error propagation Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(anthropic): skip adapter failure dispatch when the wrapped stream already logged it Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(router): cool down the final fallback attempt when its failure callbacks were blocked Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * test(anthropic): import Final in adapter regression Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * test(proxy): drop spend-log encoding expectation superseded by main's poison isolation Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(anthropic): finish the wrapped stream's failure log before surfacing the error Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(anthropic): wait for the wrapped stream's failure log to finish like the inline dispatch did Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * test(anthropic): wait for the executor-run sync failure callback separately from the async caller boundary Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * test(proxy): pin pass-through stream fixture start times Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(logging): publish failed attempt payload before awaiting failure callbacks Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(logging): publish failed attempt payload from the failure handler after baseline invalidation Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * refactor(logging): drop unused discard_partial_usage_for_failure Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> --------- Co-authored-by: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> |

fix(langfuse_otel)!: send the completion start time (#45597)
* fix(langfuse_otel): send the completion start time langfuse_otel never set langfuse.observation.completion_start_time, so Langfuse showed no time to first token for any call, streamed or not. The legacy langfuse callback already sends kwargs["completion_start_time"]. Send the same value as an ISO timestamp with an explicit offset. * fix(langfuse_otel): type kwargs and test against a real span Type the kwargs of _set_langfuse_specific_attributes as dict[str, Any], the declared type of model_call_details, so the new completion start time read adds no unknown-type errors. The tests now check a real SDK span instead of patching safe_set_attribute, and the parameter is typed. * fix(otel): send the completion start time from the v2 Langfuse mapper With LITELLM_OTEL_V2 the langfuse_otel spans come from LangfuseMapper, which had no completion start time either. Carry the payload's completionStartTime on LLMCallSpanData for streamed calls, the same calls that get time_to_first_chunk_seconds, and map it to langfuse.observation.completion_start_time. * fix(langfuse_otel): take the logging kwargs as a read-only Mapping The new kwargs annotation tripped LIT001. Both helpers only read the logging kwargs, so type them Mapping[str, Any] instead of dict. * fix(langfuse_otel): time /v1/messages streams from the call start and send the V2 completion start time like the default emitter * fix(langfuse_otel): time Gemini, Interactions and A2A streams from their first chunk and send the start time as JSON The native Gemini, Interactions and A2A streams never recorded a first chunk, so with completion_start_time now sent both emitters showed TTFT equal to latency on them. They now record it, and Gemini and Interactions take the call's start time like /v1/messages. Both emitters send the completion start time as a JSON string, the form the Langfuse SDK and the langfuse callback send, through one serializer. * fix(langfuse_otel): time A2A streams from the call start and record a cached replay's first event A2A streams took their start time when the iterator was built, so their latency left out the work before it. They now use the call's start time like every other route. Cached /v1/messages stream replays recorded no first event, so their time to first token fell back to the end time. The replay now records it on the first event it yields. The tests use the real Interactions config and typed logger hooks. * fix(a2a): time streamed A2A calls from before the agent card fetch and make the cached replay test clock-free * test(a2a): type the card fetch test and stop rebinding the seed helper's recorder * test(otel): expect completion_start_time and cache_hit in the B3 span keys --------- Co-authored-by: mateo-berri <277851410+mateo-berri@users.noreply.github.com> |

fix(anthropic): json_schema envelope edge cases on the Anthropic json tool path (#47478)
* test(anthropic): cover json_schema envelope edge cases on the Anthropic json tool path * fix(anthropic): unwrap required-only keys, walk past tool-named envelopes, keep non-ASCII text, flush cut streams, check Vertex output_format * fix(anthropic): send held json tool text on cut Bedrock Invoke streams and drop a non-object output_format under drop_params A Bedrock Invoke stream that ends before the json tool block closes now sends the held text and closing brace, as the direct Anthropic stream already did. A non-object output_format on the Anthropic messages route and its providers is dropped under drop_params and otherwise forwarded, so the provider answers its own 400. Vertex Claude names the proxy setting in its 400 and reads drop_params through the shared helper. Adds integration cases for the json_schema envelope and the cut stream. * fix(anthropic): drop a non-object output_format on chat, unwrap a whole envelope on a cut stream, escape lone surrogates Chat completions to Anthropic, Azure AI, Bedrock Invoke and Vertex now drop a non-object output_format under drop_params, matching /v1/messages. A stream cut after a complete held envelope is unwrapped like a normal end. A json_schema answer holding a lone surrogate keeps its \u escape so the response can still be encoded * fix(anthropic): join a split answer when the stream ends in its last block A cut during the second json tool block now runs the held block through the same flush as a block stop, so it joins the streamed keys or the earlier split blocks instead of sending two objects back to back. The Vertex output_format fold drops its unreachable drop_params branch, since both parent configs drop a non-object value first. * test(vertex): expect the LiteLLM 400 for a non-object output_format on /v1/messages |

feat(context_management)!: honor clear_at_least, exclude_tools and clear_tool_inputs in the clear_tool_uses polyfill (#47123)
* feat(context_management): honor clear_at_least, exclude_tools and clear_tool_inputs in the clear_tool_uses polyfill The clear_tool_uses_20250919 polyfill honored only trigger and keep and ignored the other three fields with a warning. It now follows the Anthropic API, as measured against it: - keep counts clearable tool uses only; uses of exclude_tools are never cleared and count toward neither keep nor clear_at_least. - clear_at_least clears oldest first in batches of at least that many tokens and leaves an incomplete last batch, so the cleared prefix only grows between requests and each batch costs one prompt-cache miss. - clear_tool_inputs (true or a list of tool names) also empties the input of the cleared tool uses. Invalid values are ignored with a <field>_invalid warning on the applied edit. * refactor(context_management): build the clear_tool_uses selection without mutable state * test(context_management): cover a history made only of excluded tools * fix(context_management): leave tiny tool results out of clear_tool_uses like the API The API neither counts nor clears a tool use whose result is 1 to 46 bytes of text, whatever the tool or error flag; empty results still count. Probed against the API with crafted histories. Test data under 46 bytes is lengthened so those tests keep exercising clearing * fix(context_management): count tiny tool results when clear_tool_inputs covers their tool The API leaves a use whose result is 1 to 46 bytes out of clear_tool_uses only while its input is kept. When clear_tool_inputs is true or names the use's tool, the API counts it toward keep and clears it like any other use. * fix(context_management): count cleared inputs and images toward clear_at_least, answer malformed fields with a 400 * fix(context_management): validate clear_tool_uses edits before any editor runs, drop only the malformed edit under drop_params * fix(context_management): drop only the malformed clear_tool_uses fields under drop_params A malformed clear_at_least, exclude_tools or clear_tool_inputs no longer drops the whole edit under drop_params. The edit still runs with its well-formed fields, so the clearing that worked before is kept. Also types the new tests and swaps the hand-rolled spy router for an AsyncMock * test(context_management): pin the 46 byte cutoff in UTF-8 bytes and a batch closing at exactly clear_at_least * fix(context_management): leave a non-string tool_use id for the provider, size lone surrogates, and read drop_params strings * fix(context_management): read a drop_params string the same way on count_tokens and both /v1/messages paths count_tokens still checked drop_params with is True, so a body drop_params of "true" answered 400 there while /v1/messages dropped the malformed field. Both routes and the sync path now use drops_unsupported_params. --------- Co-authored-by: AlonSoko <25619863+AlonSoko@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: mateo-berri <277851410+mateo-berri@users.noreply.github.com> |

feat(router)!: apply each deployment's reasoning_effort_levels on every provider and route (#46601)
* feat(router): apply each deployment's reasoning_effort_levels on every provider and route A deployment's declared reasoning_effort_levels now decide the effort sent upstream on /v1/chat/completions, /v1/messages and /v1/responses for every provider. Requests round up by default, litellm.reasoning_effort_rounding and model_info.reasoning_effort_rounding switch to down, a declaration lets providers like azure_ai accept reasoning_effort, and each remap logs one INFO line with structured fields. * fix(router): round reasoning effort only on a deployment's own declared levels Cost map levels no longer round requests or force-allow reasoning_effort, so undeclared sibling deployments and catalog-only models behave as on main. A declaring deployment lets azure_ai accept any level the resolver sends, and a hosted_vllm chat thinking budget is rounded too. * fix(router): drop undeclared reasoning effort under drop_params and round native /v1/messages effort Under drop_params a level outside the deployment's reasoning_effort_levels is dropped instead of sent. Providers that take /v1/messages natively now round output_config.effort onto the deployment's declaration. The rounding setting ignores case and surrounding spaces. * fix(router): strip line breaks from every field in the reasoning effort remap log * fix(router): round thinking-budget efforts onto a declaring deployment on every provider * fix(router): keep the caller's thinking display when rounding a thinking budget on adaptive Claude Warn on a reasoning_effort_rounding value other than up or down instead of silently rounding up * test(integration): cover deployment reasoning_effort_levels rounding on chat, messages and responses Wire cells assert the exact body each provider receives when a deployment declares reasoning_effort_levels, plus undeclared controls, malformed input, drop_params, rounding settings, fallbacks, model groups, live updates and the response cache. Chaos cells cover a killed worker, a proxy restart, an upstream outage, a slow stream and the INFO remap log. * test(integration): cut held streams when the upstream stops in the reasoning effort chaos cell The upstream-stop cell waited for the held streams before stopping the upstream, so they only ended on a client or proxy timeout and the result depended on which fired first. The upstream now stops while the streams are held, and each cut stream must carry an error and no answer * fix(router): round thinking budgets only on declaring deployments and round Converse output_config An undeclared hosted_vllm deployment serving a Claude model name now maps a thinking budget the same as any other undeclared hosted_vllm deployment. A model_info that echoes a cost map key no longer borrows that entry's levels. A non-numeric thinking.budget_tokens answers 400, or is dropped under drop_params, where main answered 500. A declaring Bedrock Converse Claude deployment now rounds output_config.effort, which /v1/messages sends for Claude Code * test(integration): cover output_config rounding and non-numeric thinking budgets in the reasoning effort cells * test(integration): keep an explicit reasoning_effort winning over a malformed thinking budget on hosted_vllm * test(integration): cover output_config rounding on openai, azure and azure_ai chat * fix(hosted_vllm): let an explicit effort win over a malformed budget and reject one on /v1/messages An explicit reasoning_effort beside a non-numeric thinking.budget_tokens keeps main's behavior again. A declared hosted_vllm deployment with a Claude model name maps a budget through the generic table instead of the adaptive Claude one. /v1/messages to a non-Claude target hands a malformed budget to completion(), which answers 400 or drops it under drop_params, where it answered 500 * fix(router): drop thinking beside an explicit effort when a declaring deployment's provider cannot read it * test(integration): cover malformed thinking budgets on /v1/messages to non-Claude targets * fix(anthropic): answer 400 for a malformed thinking budget on /v1/messages to any non-Claude model, or drop it under drop_params * test(integration): cover an explicit effort beside thinking on azure_ai and drop_params on the /v1/messages bridges * fix(anthropic): answer 400 for a malformed thinking budget through adapter_completion without drop_params * fix(anthropic): type the adapter_completion request so the drop_params read adds no unknown argument * fix(router): a default effort beside a thinking budget sends no effort on chat Chat now leaves the budget-derived effort out when the caller's effort resolves to none or asks output_config for one, matching /v1/messages. The chat thinking decision moves into resolve_chat_reasoning so completion() stays under basedpyright's complexity limit. * test: type respx_mock and mark the adapter result Final in the reasoning effort tests * fix(router): keep the caller's thinking beside a kept effort and the budget effort beside a dropped one A non-default output_config.effort beside a thinking budget now leaves the thinking as sent, so Bedrock Invoke keeps display updates. A level drop_params drops counts as never sent, so the budget still sets the effort. output_config.effort replaces a thinking budget the provider cannot read, and a non-numeric string budget on adaptive Claude answers 400 in place of 500, or drops under drop_params. * fix(router): send a kept output_config effort as reasoning_effort where the provider cannot read thinking On a declaring hosted_vllm or azure_ai deployment, a thinking budget goes out as reasoning_effort. An output_config.effort beside it now takes that slot, rounded onto the declared levels, instead of leaving only output_config, which those backends ignore. * fix(reasoning-effort): honor global drop_params for a non-numeric budget and keep the budget effort beside a dropped /v1/messages level * fix(reasoning-effort): send a level a gpt-5 deployment declares even where the cost map does not list it * fix(reasoning): apply declared levels on azure_ai gpt-5 and reject a bool thinking budget on adaptive Claude * fix(router): drop a thinking budget's effort that a deployment declaring no ranked levels excludes A deployment declaring [] or ["none"] skipped the budget check, so adaptive Claude still sent the budget-derived output_config.effort under drop_params on chat, Bedrock Converse, and native /v1/messages. The adaptive thinking now goes out without that effort * fix(anthropic): reject a false, null or empty thinking budget on adaptive Claude |

fix(anthropic): apply tool_config cache-control points on chat and /v1/messages (#47394)
* fix(anthropic): apply tool_config cache-control points on chat and /v1/messages A cache_control_injection_points entry with location tool_config was spread into the Anthropic request body on /v1/chat/completions, which Anthropic rejected with 400 Extra inputs are not permitted, and the native /v1/messages path dropped the point silently. Both paths now put the point's control on the last tool Anthropic caches and never forward the key. Co-authored-by: Tan Nguyen <tan@pressingly.net> * refactor(anthropic): validate tool_config inputs instead of casting them Keeps the lint gates flat: the helper takes untyped tools and points and narrows them with the existing object validators, the chat transform builds the body with the marked tools instead of writing into optional_params, and the handler reads a typed view of kwargs. * fix(openai): keep tool_config cache points out of extra_body, add integration test The cache hook hands a tool_config point on for the provider step, and for providers that call through the OpenAI SDK every non-OpenAI param rides in extra_body, so OpenAI answered 400 Unrecognized request argument supplied. The new integration file drives a live proxy against scripted Anthropic, Bedrock Converse and OpenAI upstreams for /v1/chat/completions and /v1/messages. * test(integration): cover tool_config cache points on bridged /v1/messages Three new cases on /v1/messages for models without a native Anthropic messages path: OpenAI through the Responses bridge and Gemini through the chat bridge never see cache_control_injection_points in the body, and Bedrock Nova through the chat bridge gets the cachePoint on toolConfig --------- Co-authored-by: devin-ai-integration[bot] <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Tan Nguyen <tan@pressingly.net> |

fix(anthropic)!: answer 400 for a malformed tool_result text on /v1/messages and count_tokens (#47347)
* fix(anthropic): answer 400 for a malformed tool_result text on the Responses bridge and count_tokens A tool_result text block whose text is null, a number, or missing made /v1/messages and /v1/messages/count_tokens answer 500 on OpenAI and Azure models. Both routes now answer 400 naming the block, and drop the block when drop_params is on. * fix(anthropic): keep a missing tool_result text as empty text, bound the error, honor body drop_params on count_tokens * fix(anthropic): apply the tool_result text check on the chat/completions bridge and every count route The chat/completions bridge used for Azure, Gemini and other providers now answers the same 400 for a null or numeric tool_result text and drops the block under drop_params, so a model group that mixes OpenAI with another provider answers the same way on every deployment. Gemini and Vertex count_tokens apply the same check, count_tokens turns on drop_params for Claude Code and Codex the way /v1/messages does, and a tool_result without a tool_use_id is checked too * fix(proxy): answer 400 for a malformed tool_result text on count_tokens models without a count API Providers with no token counting API fall back to the local tokenizer, which counted a null or numeric tool_result text as fine while /v1/messages on the same model answers 400. The fallback now runs the same check, unless drop_params applies to the deployment or the request * fix(proxy): honor request drop_params on the local count fallback when no deployment resolves * test(integration): cover non-string tool_result text on both /v1/messages bridges and count routes * fix(anthropic): keep a dropped tool_result on Mistral and reject it before a guardrail rewrite Under drop_params a tool_result whose only text block was null or a number became an empty tool message, and Mistral's empty-message filter removed it, so Mistral answered 400 for a missing tool reply. The filter now only removes empty assistant messages, which is what Mistral rejects. A guardrail that rewrites structured_messages wrote the dropped text back as "", so a null or numeric text was silently blanked even without drop_params. The rewrite path now answers the same 400 as the bridges unless the request or global drop_params is set. * test(integration): cover the Mistral empty tool reply and the guardrail rewrite tool_result text check * fix(anthropic): keep a malformed tool_result text through a guardrail rewrite and keep Mistral's null-message drop A guardrail that rewrites structured_messages now writes the caller's null or numeric tool_result text back in place, so the route's bridge and the deployment's drop_params decide after routing, the same as with no guardrail. The rewrite path no longer answers its own 400 before routing. Mistral drops a null-content system or user message again, as main does, and only a tool reply is exempt from that filter so a dropped tool_result keeps its tool call. * test(mistral): expect empty system and user turns dropped and the empty tool reply kept * perf(anthropic): restore kept tool_result text parts in one linear pass * test(integration): cover the tool_result text restore across tool_results, the chat bridge, and a batch upload behind a rewriting guardrail * fix(anthropic): let guardrails scan malformed tool_result text and honor drop_params on native Anthropic A rewriting guardrail now sees a non-string tool_result text as its JSON text and the write-back restores the caller's value by the sanitized tool_use_id when the guardrail left it unchanged. Native Anthropic drops the bad block under drop_params on /v1/messages and count_tokens, and Mistral keeps an empty tool reply only when it answers a tool call, sent as empty text. * fix(anthropic): compare a kept tool_result text to its scanned form once and align the wire tests with drop_params * test(integration): cover native Anthropic drop_params resolution, guardrail scanning of numeric tool_result text, and the Mistral orphan tool message * fix(count_tokens): honor the router's default drop_params when counting a malformed tool_result text * test(count_tokens): send the tool_result count tests through a real request body instead of a mocked parser * test(count_tokens): send the native Claude count test through a real request body * fix(anthropic): keep each non-string tool_result text when tool_use_ids sanitize to the same id * fix(anthropic): keep non-ASCII characters in the guardrail's view of a non-string tool_result text * test(gemini): mock the count_tokens upstream with respx instead of patching the client factory * fix(mistral): keep an empty tool reply only for an open call, and forward non-object message items on the native drop An empty tool reply re-answering a call the conversation already moved past made Mistral reject the request, and a tool call id that is not a string crashed the filter. Native Anthropic under drop_params assumed every message item was an object. * fix(mistral): find answering tool replies in one pass instead of copying the open call set per reply * fix(mistral): ignore dropped empty placeholders when tracking open tool calls * fix(mistral): drop an empty tool reply when another reply to the same call carries the result * refactor(anthropic): share tool_result text helpers to shrink the diff * fix(anthropic): answer 400 for a non-string tool_result text on the OpenAI Responses bridge |

fix(openai): drop unsupported reasoning effort for gpt-6.1-sol (#43935)
* fix(openai): drop unsupported reasoning effort for gpt-6.1-sol gpt-6.1-sol accepts low, medium, high, xhigh, and max. none and minimal were still forwarded, because chat completions ignored an explicit supports_none_reasoning_effort=false and the Responses mapper never applied that contract. Co-authored-by: Cursor <cursoragent@cursor.com> * fix(openai): mark the stripped reasoning object as outgoing JSON Co-authored-by: Cursor <cursoragent@cursor.com> * Fix Azure responses reading the OpenAI effort map gpt-6-astra on Azure accepts reasoning.effort none. The responses gate was checking the OpenAI entry, which rejects it. Signed-off-by: Paul El Khoury <82139421+pOpO1-9@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Cursor <cursoragent@cursor.com> * fix(openai): gate every reasoning_effort level from the cost map on chat and Responses One gate reads the model's cost-map row for whatever effort level a request asks for, on Chat Completions and the Responses API, for OpenAI and Azure. xhigh stays opt-in on chat (Azure also keeps none opt-in); every other level is refused only when its supports_<level>_reasoning_effort flag is false. A refused level is dropped under drop_params or answered with a local 400, and Responses keeps the rest of the reasoning object when it drops effort. The guards that follow judge temperature by the level the provider will see. Tests move into the mapped test files and derive the expected outcome for each level from the map row, so a new GPT-6 model needs only its row. * test(openai): pin gpt-6.1-sol's refused effort levels and prove the row flags alone drive the gate * fix(cost-map): azure gpt-6-astra refuses none and honors max on Responses, as live calls show * test(reasoning_effort): pin the astra max and none flips through the adapter and Foundry paths * fix(reasoning_effort): keep max out of the route gates and correct the gpt-5.3-codex rows The same model honors max on Responses and refuses it on Chat Completions, so one row flag cannot gate it on either route. The gates now skip max, the Azure gpt-6-astra rows keep max off so the /v1/messages adapter degrades to xhigh and /model_group/info stops short of it as on main, and chat still forwards max for the Responses bridge. The gpt-5.3-codex rows said none and xhigh off and minimal on; the live model answers the other way round (2026-10-01), and an opt-out gate would have dropped the levels Codex CLI sends. * fix(reasoning_effort): bridge function tools to Responses when the chat gate drops none * docs(reasoning_effort): correct the max advertisement note * fix(azure_ai): read the Foundry row on the Responses effort gate and turn none off for Azure gpt-6.1-sol * fix(azure): gate a prefixed Foundry deployment's Responses effort off its row litellm.responses(model="azure_ai/<deployment>", api_base=<Foundry host>) is re-routed to the azure provider with the azure_ai/ prefix intact, so the Azure Responses config saw a prefixed name, skipped it as another provider's pass-through, and forwarded none and minimal to Azure even under drop_params. The Azure gpt-5 resolver also read no row at all for a prefixed name. The Azure Responses gate now detects the family the way the Azure chat gate does, and an azure_ai/ name on the Azure OpenAI configs reads its azure_ai/ row when the map has one, else the azure/ twin, the rule the Foundry chat config already applies to the same deployment. * fix(cost-map): turn none off on azure/eu/gpt-6-astra like its sibling rows * docs(reasoning_effort): say how each gate reads none and shorten the module docstring * fix(azure_ai): call the public effort-level check from the Foundry Responses gate * test(reasoning_effort): fold the Foundry Responses tests into the mapped file and type the row helpers --------- Signed-off-by: Paul El Khoury <82139421+pOpO1-9@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Cursor <cursoragent@cursor.com> Co-authored-by: mateo-berri <277851410+mateo-berri@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: ryan-crabbe-berri <ryan@berri.ai> |

fix(databricks): use the native Anthropic route for Claude /v1/messages (#46091)
* fix(databricks): use the native Anthropic route for Claude /v1/messages Claude models on a Databricks workspace were bridged through chat completions on /v1/messages, which drops the safeguards field and never returns safeguard_results. They now call the workspace's /serving-endpoints/anthropic/v1/messages, the proxy forwards the client's anthropic-beta and anthropic-version headers to Databricks deployments, and the beta header map marks dangerous-tool-use-2026-09-03 as supported there. Any route whose platform does not take that beta drops safeguards together with it instead of answering 400. Non-Claude Databricks models keep the chat completions bridge * fix(databricks): derive the dangerous-tool-use beta from safeguards instead of forwarding client betas A Databricks Claude serving endpoint answers 400 to betas Claude Code sends on every turn, prompt-caching-scope-2026-01-05 among them, so the proxy no longer forwards the client's anthropic-beta header to Databricks deployments. The beta the classifier needs is derived from the safeguards body field, the same way the Azure AI route derives it. The Rust beta-header mirror stops rejecting the Databricks dangerous-tool-use cell so its config-cell test matches the JSON again * fix(databricks): keep the billing block, build the messages route once, and pass the partner user agent * fix(databricks): route Unity Catalog Claude names to the gateway messages route and keep env credentials Unity Catalog model-service names now reach the AI Gateway's native Anthropic route instead of a serving-endpoints path that answers 404 for them, and the native route resolves the key and base through the same order the chat route uses, so environment-only deployments keep working. The native route is limited to Databricks foundation-model Claude names, an unlisted provider forwards safeguards and the beta as sent, and the ten betas the workspace rejects are marked unsupported for Databricks in the beta map and its Rust mirror. * test(rust): expect Databricks to drop the advanced-tool-use beta * fix(databricks): keep passthrough safeguards, partner user agent, and classifier fallback Only the OpenAI-compatible JSON providers drop safeguards now, so a deployment opted into /v1/messages passthrough forwards the field and the beta as sent. When a route drops safeguards and the proxy has a classifier model, the proxy answers the verdict itself, as the chat completions bridge did. The Databricks Messages route also reads the databricks_user_agent param like the chat route. * fix(databricks): drop rejected server tools under drop_params, short-circuit web search, route UC names from a full Messages URL * fix(databricks): drop container on the native Messages route, as the chat completions bridge did * fix(databricks): keep every api_base on a route the workspace serves and gate the derived beta on the map Gate the dangerous-tool-use beta derivation on the beta map the way #43955 does, so GitHub Copilot, DeepSeek, and opt-in passthroughs keep the merge base wire. Recognize /serving-endpoints/anthropic api_bases, fall back to the merge base routing for an api_base path the workspace trim does not know, strip Bedrock invocation metrics from the streamed message_stop, forward client betas to Databricks filtered by the map, and keep tool_choice when a dropped server tool has no name * test(databricks): cover the native Messages route, derived beta and JSON provider safeguards drop on the wire * test(anthropic): expect the dangerous-tool-use beta derived from safeguards next to the client's betas * fix(databricks): send client anthropic headers only on the native Messages route and keep SDK auth Databricks chat completions, called directly or through the Messages bridge, no longer receive the client's anthropic-beta and anthropic-version, as at the merge base. The native Messages route still forwards them, filtered by the beta map, without counting them as caller credentials, so a deployment with no api_key keeps falling back to Databricks SDK auth. A pathless api_base goes to the native route only for Unity Catalog names, matching the chat route. * test(databricks): cover SDK auth with client anthropic headers and a Unity Catalog workspace root on the native route * fix(databricks): keep client anthropic headers off an opted-in passthrough api_base A databricks Claude deployment whose api_base is no workspace route and that opts into /v1/messages with supported_endpoints falls back to the OpenAI-like passthrough. That config does not filter betas through the beta map, yet it received the native-only Databricks header entry, so Claude Code's prompt-caching-scope beta reached the upstream raw and got a 400 where the merge base answered 200. Each Messages config now says whether it is the provider's native route, the OpenAI-like passthrough says no, and the handler passes that answer when it reads provider-specific headers, so native-only entries reach only native configs. * test(databricks): cover client anthropic betas on an opted-in passthrough api_base A databricks Claude deployment whose api_base is no workspace route and whose model_info.supported_endpoints opts into /v1/messages takes the OpenAI-like passthrough. The cell sends Claude Code's prompt-caching-scope and context-1m betas through the proxy and asserts the caller gets the upstream's message and the gateway receives no anthropic-beta, as on the merge base. The scripted gateway answers 400 on the prompt-caching-scope beta, as the real one does * fix(anthropic): keep beta map loads off shared threads and build the safeguards evaluator only when the proxy classifies Unfiltered configs such as first-party Anthropic never read the beta map to decide safeguards support. Filtered configs await the map on its dedicated loader before reading it, on both the native and the MCP paths. The native handler decides after the upstream call and builds the evaluator only when the proxy classifies, so malformed messages keep the upstream 400. The Databricks dispatch tests assert the dispatched route instead of the config class, and the sail and Eden AI wire rows expect safeguards dropped, as JSON providers do. * test(databricks): cover a loaded beta map that marks the safeguards beta unsupported A remote beta map that nulls dangerous-tool-use for databricks while the bundled map allows it must send neither safeguards nor the beta to the serving endpoint, with or without a client beta, and the caller gets a 200 with no verdict. * test(anthropic): annotate the MCP beta map recordings as Final * fix(anthropic): drop safeguards on routes without the classifier only under drop_params A route whose upstream does not answer safeguards (a JSON provider, or a map that marks the dangerous-tool-use beta unsupported) now forwards the field and the beta as the merge base did unless drop_params is set or the proxy runs its own classifier, matching how litellm treats any unsupported param. Databricks keeps dropping both, since its merge base bridge never forwarded the field. --------- Co-authored-by: mateo-berri <277851410+mateo-berri@users.noreply.github.com> |

fix(router)!: stop a chat-mode Mantle deployment from rewriting the shared Responses routing row (#46263)
* fix(router): stop a chat-mode Mantle deployment from rewriting the shared Responses routing row A deployment with an explicit custom_llm_provider and model_info.mode: chat used to overwrite the shared litellm.model_cost row, moving every other deployment and plain SDK calls onto Chat Completions until restart, because the downgrade guard read a double-prefixed key and never fired. The guard now reads the real key, and a deployment's own mode decides its routing in responses_api_bridge_check, except on chatgpt and github_copilot where Chat Completions is dead for responses-mode models. Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * test(responses): keep the bridge-check mode tests in the sharded bridge flag file Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(responses): let a deployment mode pin replace only the shared-row mode so the bridge capability rules still run Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(responses): keep Responses-only backends bridged under a deployment chat pin and satisfy the type gate Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(responses): give the bridge casts a reason and drop the bare noqa so the type discipline gate passes Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(responses): keep a responses row with no supported_endpoints bridged under a deployment chat pin Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(router): read the downgrade guard's mode from the row registration writes A chat-mode openai/<name> deployment merged into the bare <name> row while the guard read openai/<name>, so the guard never fired and the shared responses row turned to chat. An explicit responses/ prefix now also outranks a deployment's chat pin. * fix(router): let an explicit responses/ prefix outrank a registered chat row The router now registers a chat-pinned openai/responses/<model> deployment under its own name, so the lookup found mode chat and the request went to Chat Completions as responses/<model>. * fix(router): keep the shared row's mode for every deployment pin and honor the pin on /v1/messages A deployment's mode pin now never rewrites the shared cost-map row in either direction, including the responses/-stripped twin key, so siblings and SDK calls keep routing by the registered mode. The backend key formula goes back to main's, which keeps capability fields off rows that registration never wrote at base. The /v1/messages adapter and handler read the deployment's model_info, so a chat-pinned deployment gets a plain reasoning effort on chat completions. * fix(router): keep copilot responses opt-in, make unmapped pins order-free, send Mantle auto summary as auto A responses pin on a github_copilot model or a model missing from the cost map still marks the shared row, since that is how those models opt into the Responses API. A chat pin never marks a row, so registration order no longer matters. Mantle's OpenAI path gets summary auto in place of the auto summary detailed. The Azure o3-pro and o3-deep-research rows drop Chat Completions, which Azure does not serve for them. * fix(router): skip a non-string model_info.mode when keeping the registered mode * fix(router): keep chat-pinned Mantle tool calls and summaries on the Responses API A Mantle row that also serves the Responses API now follows the GPT-5 tool and reasoning summary bridge rules, since Mantle Chat Completions rejects function tools on gpt-5.4+ unless reasoning is off and rejects the summary aliases. Mantle chat gets a dict reasoning_effort as its effort level. The opt-in auto summary asks each Responses config for its level, auto on Mantle's OpenAI path, so a client's own detailed summary follows drop_params as at base. No mode replaces a registered responses mode, and chatgpt and github_copilot rows take any pin until they are responses, which restores the Copilot chat opt-out. * fix(responses): ask the target for its auto summary level on the chat bridge and reasoning_effort * test(integration): run the Mantle region-prefixed v1 base case again This PR routes that deployment by its own chat pin, so the case passes and no longer needs the skip * fix(bedrock_mantle): keep web search and reasoning summaries on the Responses API under a chat pin A chat-pinned Mantle GPT-5 deployment now sends web_search_options and a dict reasoning_effort carrying a summary to the Responses API, which serves them. Mantle Chat Completions drops n above 1 and a reasoning summary under drop_params and answers 400 without it. The /v1/messages adapter probes the bridge with only the client's own summary, so an auto-injected one never moves the request * fix(bedrock_mantle): check n and reasoning summaries only on the Chat Completions request * fix(router): keep a non-string deployment mode off the shared routing row A deployment whose model_info.mode was an int, a list, or an object still reached the shared cost-map row, so an unpinned sibling on the same backend stopped routing to the Responses API. The shared registration now drops a mode that is not a string, and the deployment keeps its own raw value. Adds integration cells for per-deployment routing across the OpenAI and Anthropic SDKs, raw httpx, wildcard routes, malformed modes, an upstream outage, config changes under traffic, and a worker kill plus restart. * test(integration): find each routing cell's spend row by the response it logged A bridged call logs its row under the wrapped Responses id, which the caller never sees on a streamed Messages answer, so look the row up by the answer's own ids and the upstream ids for its marker. Int and list modes 500 their own model group on main too, so those cells check only the sibling, and the summary cell sends the auto level Mantle's Responses path accepts * fix(bedrock_mantle): run extra_body fields through the chat checks A chat-pinned Mantle request that nests n or reasoning_effort in extra_body now gets the same 400, drop, and effort-level handling as the top-level fields. The bridge test injects a MockTransport client instead of patching HTTPHandler.post. * test(router): cover nested reasoning_effort routing, messages thinking summaries and per-target auto summary levels * fix(router): probe a pinned deployment's own API on /health and keep a requested summary beside an extra_body effort * fix(router): keep a custom-priced deployment's mode pin off the shared backend row on each request * fix(router): run per-request custom pricing through the shared mode guard so a health probe keeps the row's mode * fix(router): drop the debug log that wrote a request's model name from keep_registered_mode * test(router): cover custom-priced chat pins, their health probes and summary aliases beside an extra_body effort * fix(proxy): pass only the mode pin to a /health probe so a failing probe never cools its deployment down * test(router): cover failing health probes leaving their deployment out of cooldown, with and without background checks * test(router): kill the worker that holds burst calls, so the worker kill cell never depends on how the kernel spread them * fix(router): route a fine-tune the same whichever deployment registers first Main's register_model now seeds an unmapped fine-tune's row from its base model's built-in row, mode included, on the first registration. The mode guard read only the live row, so a responses pin marked the shared row only when it registered before its siblings. The guard now reads the row the registration merges onto, the live row or else the row it would seed. --------- Co-authored-by: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> |

fix(anthropic): carry safeguard_results and stop_details in synthesized message_delta events (#46096)
* fix(anthropic): carry safeguard_results and stop_details in synthesized message_delta events When the proxy renders a complete Anthropic Messages response as an SSE stream for a client that asked to stream, the message_delta event carried only stop_reason and stop_sequence. A real Anthropic stream puts safeguard_results and stop_details inside message_delta.delta, so a client such as Claude Code auto mode lost the server-side classifier verdict and a refusal lost its stop_details. Both stream builders now copy those keys from the source response through one shared helper when they are present. * fix(guardrails): keep safeguard_results and stop_details when re-emitting a rewritten Anthropic stream A post-call guardrail that rewrites an Anthropic stream (presidio, bedrock, tool permission, model armor) now carries the upstream message_delta safeguard_results and stop_details into the re-emitted stream. The router fallback message_start no longer leaks those final fields early * fix(guardrails): keep stop_details and safeguard_results in rewritten Anthropic streams without explanations A guardrail that rewrites a /v1/messages stream now carries stop_details (type and category) and the dangerous_tool_use verdicts for the tool calls it still delivers, with every explanation dropped so a masked stream never echoes the unmasked text through those fields. * fix(guardrails): copy only upstream stop_details and forward-compatible safeguard_results into rewritten Anthropic streams A rewritten stream now takes stop_details and safeguard_results from the upstream message_delta alone, so a refusal the upstream sent without stop_details is never given one by the OpenAI round trip. Unknown safeguard types, statuses, reasons and extra fields pass through, a verdict follows a tool call only when its input is unchanged, and tool_permission keeps the explanations since it rewrites no text. * fix(guardrails): apply the safeguard_results and stop_details rules to policy pipeline stream rewrites * fix(router): deliver a refused stream built from a finished agentic turn instead of falling back Websearch, MCP and advisor streams replay a complete reply whose tools already ran, so a refusal fallback would run every tool again. Also give the recovered response's message_start a null stop_details as the API sends it, drop safeguard_results a masking rewrite cannot read, and add the audit cells for synthesized streams. * test(router): annotate the finished-turn refusal stream test locals with Final --------- Co-authored-by: mateo-berri <277851410+mateo-berri@users.noreply.github.com> |

fix(caching): keep prompt cache usage on streamed cache hits (#47073)
* fix(caching): keep prompt cache usage on streamed cache hits A stream=true request served from the response cache rebuilt its usage from the prompt, completion and total counts only, so prompt_tokens_details and the cache read and creation counts were dropped on the replayed stream. /v1/messages clients routed to Bedrock Converse saw input_tokens equal to the whole prompt and no cache tokens on a hit. Both replays now build the usage through one helper that also restores prompt_tokens_details and the integer cache read and creation counts, skipping cached values that do not validate. * fix(caching): coerce replayed token counts the way the live usage does The replay accepted only exact ints for the token counts, so an integral float or numeric string in a cached entry became 0 where the previous replay kept it. Counts now go through pydantic int coercion and fall back only when they do not validate. |

fix(count_tokens): apply context_management edits in the Gemini /v1/messages/count_tokens count (#46843)
* fix(count_tokens): apply context_management edits in the Gemini /v1/messages/count_tokens count /v1/messages runs clear_tool_uses context edits before it sends an Anthropic body to a Gemini or Vertex AI deployment, but /v1/messages/count_tokens counted the body unedited, so a request with older tool results cleared counted about 2.8x what inference bills. The count now runs the same history and context-edit step inference runs, honors additional_drop_params on the deployment, and skips compact edits so a count never makes a paid summary call. * fix(count_tokens): match the Gemini count to inference for compact edits and drop opt-outs Run compact edits in the count without the summary call so trigger checks and history slicing match /v1/messages, honor a request-level additional_drop_params, keep the full body when any deployment in the model group drops context_management, and answer 400 naming a block Gemini cannot count when an edit trigger fails on it * fix(count_tokens): count the unedited body when an edit fails and honor deployment ids in the drop check * fix(count_tokens): log a failed edit in the count at debug, since the send already logs it * fix(count_tokens): resolve a deployment id before wildcard routes in the drop check, as the router does * fix(count_tokens): honor the router-wide additional_drop_params opt-out in the drop check The router merges default_litellm_params between the deployment and the request, so a router-wide context_management opt-out makes /v1/messages send the full history. The count now reads it in the same order. Adds the audit's wire tests for the count's context edits. * fix(count_tokens): read the opt-out of a deployment the router serves by its litellm model name * fix(count_tokens): read the opt-out and drop_params from the deployments the router and completion_model send to * fix(messages): drop an invalid context_management spec under drop_params so the send matches the count * fix(count_tokens): give Claude Code and Codex counts the drop_params default /v1/messages gives them The proxy turns on drop_params for Claude Code and Codex user agents on /v1/messages. The count now applies the same default, so an invalid context_management spec drops on both endpoints instead of the count answering 400 while the send answers 200. The wire test also covers default_fallbacks, model_group_alias, and completion_model routes. * test(count_tokens): cover a coding agent that turns drop_params off and stop two count tests running as Claude Code |

fix(bedrock)!: keep reasoning, thinking blocks and the json_mode finish_reason on fake streams (#46863)
* fix(bedrock): keep reasoning, thinking blocks and the json_mode finish_reason on fake streams A Bedrock Converse model without native structured output fakes the stream when response_format carries a json_schema. The fake stream transformed the response without json_mode and rebuilt a chunk from text, tool_use and token counts only, so it dropped reasoning_content, the signed thinking_blocks and the reasoning token count, and ended on finish_reason tool_calls. The three fake-stream sites now pass json_mode to _transform_response and stream the resulting ModelResponse through the shared convert_model_response_to_streaming converter, which now numbers each streamed thinking block with its index the way real streams do * fix(bedrock): parse text tool calls on Converse fake streams like the non-stream answer * fix(responses): stream the answer text when one chat chunk carries reasoning and the answer * fix(streaming): keep every field on the OpenAI and openai_like fake streams and split multi-block thinking Azure o-series and openai_like fake streams now use the shared MockResponseIterator, so extra tool calls, reasoning and cached and reasoning tokens survive; the Bedrock-local iterator is deleted. The /v1/responses bridge also splits a chunk whose thinking block is signed or redacted with no reasoning text, and the sync iterator closes the reasoning item before the answer opens, like the async one. The /v1/messages bridge gives each thinking block in a chunk its own content block, starts a new block when the thinking block index changes, and streams redacted thinking as redacted_thinking. Snowflake replays drop the stream index from thinking blocks. * fix(anthropic): stream each thinking block's text once on /v1/messages An unsigned thinking chunk now opens its content block with empty text, since its thinking_delta carries the text. A multi-block chunk keeps each piece's thinking block, so an unsigned block followed by a signed one keeps its own text and index. * docs(anthropic): describe which thinking block start carries its text * fix(streaming): close merged reasoning before the answer when one chunk carries both * test(streaming): cover fake-stream reasoning across the proxy bridges and type the Snowflake replay test |

feat(gemini): allow disabling thought summaries while keeping thinking on (#36460)
* feat(gemini): allow disabling thought summaries while keeping thinking on Both reasoning-effort mappers hardcoded includeThoughts to True whenever thinking was on, so thinking ON with summaries OFF was unreachable even though that is the google SDK's own default. Summaries are the narration rather than the reasoning, and for callers that discard them they are pure added latency. Adds litellm.gemini_include_thoughts_default, defaulting to True so nothing changes for anyone who does not set it. It gates the includeThoughts=True branches in the thinkingBudget mapper, the thinkingLevel mapper, and the anthropic-style thinking param mapper. The disable and none paths still force includeThoughts=False: with thinking off there is nothing to summarise. * test(gemini): assert thought-summary flag through the outbound Gemini request * feat(gemini): let a request's thought summary ask override the gateway default thinking.display (summarized, updates, omitted) and a reasoning_effort object carrying summary now decide includeThoughts for that request; gemini_include_thoughts_default applies only when the request says nothing * feat(gemini): let a thought summary ask on /v1/messages and /v1/responses override the gateway default * fix(gemini): read a text gateway default as a boolean and leave display omitted to the flag Normalize gemini_include_thoughts_default through normalize_drop_params so a YAML or env value written as "false" or "0" turns thought text off and a null or unknown value keeps the default on. thinking.display "omitted" no longer counts as a per-request ask, so the gateway flag decides, matching /v1/messages. Adds proxy integration cells for chat, /v1/messages and /v1/responses that prove the flag, every per-request ask, streaming, and a burst across workers. * test(gemini): match the streamed Responses usage, which omits null token details * feat(gemini): read the AI SDK reasoning summary alias and thinking.summary as chat asks * fix(gemini): keep the logged reasoning_effort unchanged and key the response cache on the summary alias A dict reasoning_effort next to the AI SDK reasoning_summary alias now counts as a summary ask, and the alias is part of the cache key so a plain request and an alias ask never share a reply * fix(caching): key the response cache on the summary alias wherever the request carries it The cache key now reads reasoning_summary and reasoningSummary through the same reader as the summary fold, so an alias inside extra_body gets its own key too * test: type the new summary-ask unit tests and mark their locals Final * test: annotate the remaining summary-ask unit tests the PR touches --------- Co-authored-by: mateo-berri <277851410+mateo-berri@users.noreply.github.com> |

fix(count_tokens): return a 400 naming Anthropic blocks the OpenAI and Gemini count can't convert (#46772)
* fix(count_tokens): convert Anthropic-format messages for the OpenAI counter the way inference does * test(count_tokens): check /v1/messages/count_tokens sends OpenAI the input /v1/messages inference sends * fix(count_tokens): build the Anthropic count request without a cast and sync dashboard API types * fix(count_tokens): count Anthropic-format requests for Gemini the way /v1/messages inference converts them * fix(count_tokens): return a 400 naming Anthropic blocks the OpenAI and Gemini count can't convert * test(count_tokens): compare tools by value in the public api test * fix(count_tokens): reject unconvertible blocks nested inside a tool_result * fix(count_tokens): count Anthropic bodies the way /v1/messages inference sends them to OpenAI Unwrap affinity-encoded reasoning, count the structured-output schema, flatten replayed web search results, join a list system prompt, and answer a message without a role with a 400 before calling OpenAI. messages_format is now internal to the Anthropic count route instead of a public /utils/token_counter field. * test(count_tokens): expect the image detail the adapter now sends after merging main * fix(count_tokens): fetch Gemini remote media without blocking the event loop * fix(count_tokens): type normalize_native_messages without the unimported Any On Python 3.10 to 3.13 the annotation is evaluated at import, so the proxy failed to start with NameError * chore(count_tokens): give the Gemini count helpers' list returns a reason * fix(count_tokens): normalize Anthropic messages for Gemini counts the way /v1/messages does * fix(count_tokens): count Gemini bodies after inference's history rewrites and answer converter errors with 400 * test(count_tokens): cover the Gemini count error paths and compaction with a text-block system --------- Co-authored-by: Mrinal Chanshetty <mrinal@berri.ai> |

fix(anthropic/adapter): stop translate_anthropic_tools_to_openai mutating the caller's input_schema (#34653)
* fix(anthropic/adapter): stop translate_anthropic_tools_to_openai mutating the caller's input_schema `translate_anthropic_tools_to_openai` assigned the caller's `input_schema` straight into `function_chunk["parameters"]`, then merged the tool's remaining top-level keys into that same dict. Because the assignment aliased rather than copied, keys such as `display_width_px` on a computer tool were written back into the caller's schema. That matters because callers reuse the tool list across passes: the pass-through guardrail translates the tools, and the request is then translated again for the real call. The first pass pollutes the source and the second forwards a schema carrying non-schema keys. Shallow-copying fixes it. `translate_anthropic_output_format_to_openai` in the same file already copies its schema for this reason, so this brings the two into line. Rebased onto current litellm_internal_staging; the original branch had gone to conflict on surrounding drift while the line it fixes is unchanged. * fix(anthropic/adapter): drop the inline comment and test the strict tool shape that Anthropic rejects * fix(anthropic/adapter): deep copy input_schema so downstream schema edits never reach the caller's tool A shallow copy still shared nested properties with the caller, and the Gemini, vLLM and watsonx bridges strip nested additionalProperties in place, so a fallback to Claude sent a strict tool Anthropic rejects. A deep copy also keeps a null or malformed input_schema as sent, as before this PR * fix(anthropic/adapter): deep copy the incoming tools so downstream edits never reach the caller's tools Copying only input_schema left the extra keys merged into parameters, such as input_examples, and OpenAI-format function tools shared with the caller, so Gemini's strict strip still edited the caller's tool before a fallback to Claude * fix(anthropic/adapter): keep translating tools that deepcopy cannot copy A tool passed as a frozen mapping, or with a schema nested past Python's recursion limit, made copy.deepcopy raise, so the request failed before it reached the provider. Copy each tool on its own and keep the original object when the copy fails, which is how these tools were handled before * fix(anthropic/adapter): copy tools through JSON so the Responses bridge and frozen tools keep the caller's schema * test(anthropic/adapter): parse stub bodies with json and cover the tool copy fallback * test(anthropic/adapter): close the connection after the malformed tools request --------- Co-authored-by: mateo-berri <277851410+mateo-berri@users.noreply.github.com> |

fix(anthropic): emit one tool_use block per call when a /v1/messages stream chunk carries several (#46492)
Providers like Mistral put every parallel tool call, with full arguments, into one
chat-completions chunk. The /v1/messages adapter opened one tool_use block for the
first call and concatenated every call's arguments into it, so clients got invalid
JSON like {...}{...}. _CombinedChunkSplitter now splits such a chunk into one chunk
per call. The first call streams live and calls opened behind it are held, gathering
their fragments by index, until a non-fragment chunk arrives or the stream ends

fix(bedrock)!: replay redacted_thinking on Converse and keep its data as Claude's own string (#46532)
* fix(bedrock): send redacted_thinking back to Converse as reasoningContent.redactedContent Replaying an assistant turn that carried a redacted_thinking block to Bedrock Converse turned it into an empty unsigned reasoningText, which the assistant content builder then dropped as blank text. Bedrock returned 200 so callers never noticed. Map redacted_thinking to redactedContent in both the thinking_blocks and inline content paths of the sync and async builders * fix(bedrock): drop blank redacted_thinking data and keep non-str signatures signed on Converse replay * fix(bedrock): replay redacted_thinking to Converse only when the target is Claude Nova, Llama, DeepSeek and gpt-oss reject reasoningContent.redactedContent with a 400, so a Claude history replayed to them through a Router fallback or model switch keeps dropping the redacted block the way main does. Claude is resolved from the Bedrock base model of the target, and an application inference profile ARN counts as Claude when its deployment's base_model names a Claude model. Adds integration contracts for the replayed Converse request shape, stream and non-stream, with a tool call, and for non-Claude and ARN targets. * test(e2e): cover Bedrock Converse replaying redacted_thinking live through the proxy Turn 1 triggers redacted thinking on Claude Sonnet 4.6, turn 2 replays it, and a live edge between the proxy and Bedrock checks the replayed Converse body carries the same reasoningContent.redactedContent. Covers nonstream, stream and a tool call round trip * fix(bedrock): validate litellm_params before reading the deployment base_model litellm_params arrives as an untyped dict, so passing it straight into the typed helper grew reportUnknownArgumentType. Validating it into Mapping[str, object] first keeps the read typed without growing the type-check gate * fix(bedrock): wrap non-Converse redacted_thinking data and let a named model id win over base_model * test(bedrock): cover redacted_thinking minted outside Converse, model_id and the sync Router base_model path * fix(bedrock): match bare claude- base_model names without reading the untyped cost map * fix(bedrock): keep redacted_thinking data as Claude's own string on every route Converse hands redactedContent back base64-wrapped, and that wrapper used to leak out as data, so a Converse turn replayed to Invoke or the Anthropic API was rejected. Converse replies now decode it, Converse requests wrap it exactly once, and the Anthropic-shaped builders unwrap histories saved with the old wrapping. Responses API encrypted reasoning is no longer sent to Claude on Converse, which rejected it with a 400 |

fix(anthropic): forward service_tier on /v1/messages for anthropic, azure_ai and bedrock_mantle (#46370)
* test(integration): add known-bug translation cases for request fields LiteLLM drops service_tier on /v1/messages, conversation on /v1/responses and metadata on /v1/chat/completions never reach the provider. Each gets a TranslationTestCase with the correct provider body, marked xfail(strict=True) through the new TranslationTestCase.known_bug field, plus a passing service_tier case for /v1/messages on the openai route Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * test(integration): widen the known-bug cases to azure_ai, bedrock_mantle, openai/responses and azure deployments Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(anthropic): forward service_tier on /v1/messages for anthropic, azure_ai and bedrock_mantle Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> --------- Co-authored-by: devin-ai-integration[bot] <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> |

feat(anthropic): generate auto mode safeguard_results with a classifier model on the /v1/messages chat bridge (#45600)
* feat(anthropic): generate auto mode safeguard_results with a classifier model on the /v1/messages chat bridge * fix(anthropic): check caller limits for the safeguards classifier, mark truncated tool calls, and keep pre-compaction context * fix(anthropic): log classifier spend under the caller's key hash and read list-shaped classifier replies * feat(anthropic): generate safeguard_results on the Responses bridge and native non-Claude /v1/messages providers * fix(messages): keep safeguards requests on Python under the Rust opt-in * fix(anthropic): keep non-ASCII text unescaped in the safeguards classifier prompt * test(anthropic): build the text-parts classifier reply without openai's construct path Message.model_construct goes through openai's construct_type, which caches discriminated unions in a weak-key map. On Python 3.12 a PEP 604 union cannot be weak-referenced, so the fixture raised inside the fake classifier and the test read an unavailable verdict. model_copy sets the list content without that path. * fix(anthropic): scan only new bytes for SSE frame ends on safeguarded native streams * fix(anthropic): answer safeguards on web search short circuits and widen the classifier reply cap * fix(anthropic): answer unsupported when the proxy serves no deployment for the safeguards classifier * fix(anthropic): keep a backend's stream verdicts and join split SSE data lines before stamping * fix(anthropic): map only the router's no-healthy-deployments refusal to unsupported * fix(anthropic): answer unavailable for the turn on a transient caller denial and let the classifier deployment's timeout apply * fix(anthropic): keep the user's whole opening message in the classifier transcript past its budget * fix(anthropic): run the proxy's own access checks for the safeguards classifier call The classifier and compaction sub-calls now pass through the same model access checks as the parent request (key, team, team member, user, project, end user, managed agent grants), with budgets left to the per-model budget check so nothing is reserved. They also carry the parent's logging params and headers, so a redaction header or per-request callback params apply to their own rows. Only per-model RPM limits count against a sub-call now, since a key-wide or team-wide RPM window is already spent by the parent request. The MCP auto-execute loop classifies only its final response, a chat-bridge stream without safeguards yields frames directly, and a classifier provider failure logs one warning line instead of a traceback * fix(anthropic): keep safeguards sub-calls off the parent's session routing and carry a body trace id The classifier and compaction summary calls no longer get the parent's proxy_server_request, so a Claude Code session bound to a router no longer pulls them off their configured model. Redaction still reads the headers carried in metadata. Their access checks now use the parent's resolved litellm_trace_id when the parent metadata has no trace_id, so a team that requires a trace id accepts a sub-call whose parent sent it in the body. * fix(anthropic): keep the disable-callbacks header on safeguards sub-calls * fix(proxy): charge per-model budgets from litellm_metadata when metadata holds only routing keys * test(integration): add safeguard_results cells for the bridges, native routes, caller checks, and classifier failures * fix(proxy): check the caller's budgets on the classifier call and keep failed access reads retryable --------- Co-authored-by: mateo-berri <277851410+mateo-berri@users.noreply.github.com> |

fix(anthropic): cache tool result screenshots on the /v1/messages to Responses bridge (#46324)
* fix(anthropic): put a tool_result cache breakpoint on its hoisted images on the Responses bridge A marked tool_result whose images get moved into a trailing user message now carries the breakpoint on the last moved image instead of the function_call_output, so the prefix OpenAI caches includes the images * test(anthropic): cover a marked tool_result with two screenshots on the Responses bridge * fix(anthropic): keep every tool result screenshot inside the breakpoint that covers it on the Responses bridge A marked tool_result's screenshots now go right after its output, so earlier unmarked screenshots land inside the breakpoint and later tool outputs stay after it. A cache_control mark on a block inside a tool_result is read too. * fix(anthropic): cover only the screenshots up to a mark inside a tool result, and drop raw breakpoints under drop_params A cache mark on a text block inside a tool result now covers that result only up to the marked block, the way Anthropic caches it, so screenshots after the marked text stay outside the breakpoint. A mark on the tool result itself still covers every screenshot in it A deployment that reads no prompt cache breakpoints now drops raw prompt_cache_breakpoint marks, top-level and inside tool results, when drop_params is on, and still forwards them as sent without it * fix(anthropic): keep raw breakpoints under drop_params for models that take them * docs(anthropic): say a mark inside a tool result covers its whole text and documents --------- Co-authored-by: mateo-berri <277851410+mateo-berri@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: yuneng-jiang <yuneng@berri.ai> |

fix(anthropic): carry cache_control to prompt_cache_breakpoint on the /v1/messages to Responses bridge (#46082)
A caller hitting /v1/messages with a cache_control mark and an OpenAI gpt-5.6 or newer deployment behind it lost the mark when the request was rebuilt as a Responses request, so OpenAI never cached at the boundary the caller chose. The bridge now rewrites each marked system, user and tool_result block to prompt_cache_breakpoint on the same block when the deployment reads breakpoints, keeps the system prompt as a developer message so its mark survives, and still strips the mark for deployments that do not read it The hook's gate becomes public so the bridge and the hook share one answer for which deployments read breakpoints, and the one-block swap lives next to the existing breakpoint helper in prompt_templates |

fix(bedrock_mantle): map the OpenAI-shaped context overflow envelope too (#41747)
* feat(dd_span_tagger): emit litellm_user_email span tag for JWT-authenticated requests Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * refactor(dd_span_tagger): use dotted litellm.user_email tag for consistency Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * feat(model_hub): surface model_info.description in model group info and Model Hub UI Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * refactor(router): aggregate model group description without in-place mutation Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(health): skip background health check DB writes when the latest-row read fails Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(bedrock_mantle): map the OpenAI-shaped context overflow envelope too Mantle reports context overflow in two envelopes. #37862 covered the structured `validation_error` one carrying token counts ("prompt tokens (N) exceed model maximum (M)"). Mantle also returns the OpenAI-shaped body: {"error":{"code":"context_length_exceeded","message":"Your input exceeds the context window of this model. ...","param":"input", "type":"invalid_request_error"}} That passes the existing `invalid_request_error` gate but matches neither the token-count pattern nor `is_error_str_context_window_exceeded`'s substring list, so it fell through to a generic BadRequestError. Clients such as Claude Code only reactive-compact on a recognised overflow phrase, so an overflowing request surfaced as an ordinary error with no recovery. Return the same normalised "prompt is too long: ..." message for this envelope when it carries no counts, keeping the numeric wording when the provider supplies them. * fix(bedrock_mantle): map the streamed context overflow and keep its 400 on /v1/messages streams * fix(anthropic_adapter): keep only the context overflow's 400 on streamed /v1/messages so other provider 4xx still fall back * test(anthropic_adapter): wrap a parametrize line over the 120 char limit * test(integration): audit Bedrock Mantle context overflow mapping across routes, clients, and fallbacks * test(integration): move the streamed /v1/messages overflow spend row into a BUG-skipped test * test(integration): keep every chaos cell in the burst and skip only the missing spend row * fix(bedrock_mantle): answer 400 on an in-stream context overflow The Mantle overflow mapper built its ContextWindowExceededError on the original exception's response, so an overflow that Mantle reports inside a 200 stream (the chat-mode token-count envelope, which the OpenAI chunk parser wraps as a 500) kept that 500 and the streamed /v1/messages route answered HTTP 500 api_error instead of 400 invalid_request_error. The mapper now builds the error on a 400 response that keeps the original headers and request, and the mapping test covers an in-stream 500 and 503. The integration suites pin the streamed /v1/messages overflow to the pre-content 400 route under a retry budget and to the message_start plus invalid_request_error event without one, drop the chaos carve-out that expected no spend row, and give the fallbacks file a timeout mark sized to the proxy's graceful stop. * fix(bedrock_mantle): keep the provider's 400 body and match the overflow code only as error.code --------- Co-authored-by: milan <milan@berri.ai> Co-authored-by: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: yassin <yassin@berri.ai> Co-authored-by: ryan-crabbe-berri <ryan@berri.ai> Co-authored-by: mateo-berri <277851410+mateo-berri@users.noreply.github.com> |

test: move 81 legacy live tests in pass-through, spend, batches, audio, search, guardrails, image and ocr dirs offline (#45288)

* test: migrate anthropic passthrough tests to integration wire tests
* test: fix passthrough migration wire spend row lookup and wildcard config
* test: migrate hosted vllm and openai file passthrough tests offline
* test: move assemblyai and vertex passthrough nodes to in-process unit tests
* test: restore unlisted router node and fix logging worker drain in passthrough unit tests
* test: drop spend-row BUG skip and sharpen non-streaming skip reason for anthropic messages
* test: use public presidio alias after merge
Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com>
* test: restore the batch and file unit tests the migration rewrote away
* test: restore full legacy intent in anthropic messages router unit tests
Drop the false BUG skip on non-streaming aanthropic_messages logging (success
callbacks do fire; the skipped body filtered on the wrong model), assert the
logged model_group, messages, cost and usage, cover streaming logging for both
Anthropic and Bedrock invoke, assert dict content blocks for Anthropic, Bedrock
invoke and the OpenAI bridge, add the Bedrock invoke leg of the router test,
fall back from a real 401, test system-prompt caching and streaming
message_start cache fields on converse and invoke, send the legacy tool-search
tools and beta header, remove the type: ignore and bare dict helper, and add
in-process native /anthropic passthrough spend logging tests
* test: fix passthrough migration wire tests and drop false native spend BUG skip
The native spend row test read rows by the shared master-key digest, so it
matched other tests' rows; read each row by its own message id instead and
assert tokens, total, spend, tags, provider, api_base and end_user on both the
non-streaming and streaming native routes. Merge the streaming test that never
checked spend, assert exact tags from litellm_metadata, stop rebinding a Final
in a loop, require cost > 0, and add the chat-completions bridge cost case the
legacy test covered
* test: harden the spend, OCR, image, search and guardrail migration replacements
The OCR spend tests now build fresh kwargs per case instead of mutating a
shared fixture, and every payload case asserts the exact logged spend. The
OCR wire test reads its spend row by request id and checks exact page
pricing. Image edit, Nova Canvas, DuckDuckGo, Firecrawl, Bedrock guardrail
and Presidio replacements now fake only the provider HTTP boundary (respx or
an in-process aiohttp server) and assert the outbound request, so the
DuckDuckGo limit, Azure base_model pricing and guardrail masking are proven
rather than assumed
* test: cover Exa and Perplexity search structure and max_results offline and retire the two base search methods
* test: drive batch and file replacements through the provider HTTP boundary and real logging callback
Replace monkeypatched litellm.afile_content and AsyncHTTPHandler doubles with respx routes,
read batch logging metadata from a registered success callback instead of get_logging_payload,
use the real managed-files hook for the GEN-2166 regression, assert outbound request bodies,
pin poller ownership explicitly in the migrated DB-sync tests, and require the scripted
upstream to be hit in the responses error-status wire tests
* test: assert file content download headers pass through the proxy
* test: point spend coverage references at the tests that replaced the retired spend job
* test: assert passthrough identity, spend and route dispatch from the code under test
The AssemblyAI non-admin test asserted metadata it wrote itself and leaked a
background poll to the real AssemblyAI host. It now drives assemblyai_proxy_route
with a real Request and waits for the success callback for its own transcript id.
The Vertex spend test matches its log by call id instead of taking the first event.
The OpenAI files wire test hit the native /{provider}/v1/files route; it now calls
/openai/files so the passthrough is what forwards the upload and delete.
* test: mock only the HTTP boundary in the migrated audio tests
Vertex TTS tests no longer replace _ensure_access_token or AsyncHTTPHandler.post;
the token comes from a mocked Google OAuth endpoint and the synthesize call from
respx. Speech tests assert the outbound body, the transcription cache test polls
for the cache write instead of relying on test ordering, and the model pass-through
test checks the multipart model field per model.
* test: wait on a logger event instead of polling the clock in anthropic messages unit tests
Recorders keep payloads in a rebound tuple and set an asyncio.Event; tests
await it with asyncio.wait_for instead of a sleep-and-deadline poll loop
* test: freeze module-level batch and file response fixtures as Final MappingProxyType
* test: fake the presidio analyzer with an in-memory aiohttp connector
The blocked-entity tests started an aiohttp TestServer, which binds a local
socket. They now hand the guardrail a ClientSession whose connector answers
/analyze and /anonymize in process, so no socket is opened and the outbound
analyze text and entities are still asserted
* test: type anthropic messages router test helpers with LiteLLM's Anthropic TypedDicts
Messages, cached system blocks and tool-search tools now use
AnthropicMessagesUserMessageParam, AnthropicMessagesTextParam,
AnthropicToolSearchToolRegex and AnthropicMessagesTool instead of bare
dict shapes; tools are converted to plain dicts only at the acreate call,
whose tools parameter is list[dict]
* test: type batch limiter helpers with TypedDicts and wait on the logging callback event instead of polling
* test: give the migrated OCR, image and presidio helpers precise types
OCR spend helpers take ReadOnly TypedDicts for kwargs and responses and use
LiteLLM's OCRResponse/OCRUsageInfo instead of local pydantic stand-ins; spend
metadata is validated with a TypeAdapter. The presidio fake uses LiteLLM's
PresidioAnalyzeRequest/ResponseItem types, and the image-edit logger validates
the logged payload instead of storing an untyped dict
* test: signal callback and cache events instead of polling
Recorders keep tuples and set an asyncio.Event, thread-safely, when the payload
for this test's transcript id or upstream URL arrives. The transcription cache
test waits on a Cache subclass that signals after async_add_cache. No clock
polling or sleeps remain in these tests.
* test: assert the batch limiter hook updates the caller's request in place
* test: tolerate model-list probes and read native passthrough rows by owned key
The router's OpenAI-compatible model-info refresh (litellm/router.py:10710)
sends GET /v1/models to configured openai api_bases, so the wire answers it
with an empty list and excludes it from the provider-call assertions. Native
/anthropic spend rows are now read by a per-request virtual key digest and
call_type, then the row's request_id is checked against the message id
* test: expect the OCR alias in the proxy response model
The proxy restamps every OpenAI-compatible response model to the name the
client requested (_override_openai_response_model), so /v1/ocr returns the
scenario alias. The upstream model is now checked on the drained request body
instead of inside the peer, where a failed assert never reached the test

fix(anthropic): let /v1/messages mid-stream failures reach the proxy failure boundary (#44800)
* fix(anthropic): let /v1/messages mid-stream failures reach the proxy failure boundary AnthropicStreamWrapper.async_anthropic_sse_wrapper swallowed every upstream exception and emitted its own Anthropic error frame, so a provider drop on a streamed /v1/messages call never reached the proxy's streaming boundary — no failure spend row, no failure callbacks. Re-raise when the stream is proxy-managed (detached failure hook armed) so async_streaming_data_generator runs post_call_failure_hook once and serializes the error frame; when consumed standalone (SDK litellm.messages path), run the logging object's async failure handler and keep the client-facing error frame. test: move the unit half of 126 mixed legacy files into tests/unit (#45090)
* test: move the unit half of 126 mixed legacy files into tests/unit * test: restore litellm globals that moved tests set * test: finalize migration test cleanup * test: restore original bodies of moved legacy tests The move into tests/unit had rewritten 612 test bodies, and some of the rewrites dropped assertions. Each moved test now carries its original body from the legacy file, with only the imports, helpers, fake provider credentials and monkeypatched env it needs to run under tests/unit test_timeout_streaming goes back to tests/local_testing because it needs the fake OpenAI endpoint server. The image payload fixture moves with its only user, and two tests that leaked global state (a registered model cost entry and queued logging tasks) are now isolated * test: drop module imports shadowed by restored local imports * test: assert on LiteLLM output in no-assertion moved tests and isolate leaks Twenty no-assertion candidates get one assertion on the value LiteLLM returns, with the original lines unchanged. Four tests go back to their legacy files because they only check types or imports, write into the working directory, or cannot assert without a body change Two moved tests leaked globals into later tests in the same worker, so monkeypatch fixtures now restore the retry-after header parser and the end user cost tracking flags * test: drain queued logging tasks before the Phoenix span test The moved Phoenix test counted spans from logging tasks that earlier tests had queued, so the drain fixture moves to tests/unit/conftest.py and both it and the Datadog batch test use it. test_factory_function goes back to its legacy file because its returned wrapper calls the real Assistants API and cannot be asserted on without a body change --------- Co-authored-by: yuneng <yuneng@berri.ai> |

fix(router): preserve native baseline identity and accounting (#44960)
* fix(router): preserve native baseline identity and accounting * fix(router): preserve injected system caches in native baselines * fix(router): prepare native baselines through shared request owners * fix(router): capture native baseline fields from the provider schema * refactor(router): reuse native provider parameter discovery * fix(router): keep long native baselines and abstain after compaction Message history no longer counts against the settings snapshot budget, so long and non-ASCII native sessions keep modeled baselines. Selected-tier compaction now abstains because the baseline would otherwise inherit the compacted history. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(router): judge implicit caching against the selected request The implicit-cache guard compared the selected response's cache usage with the projected baseline's breakpoints, so selected-tier cache markers made a usable unmarked baseline plan look like unexplained caching. The guard now checks the selected wire request. Also removes a stamp-reuse branch that could never run because routing clears the stamp first; every pass already captures caller settings from fresh kwargs. fix(caching): never store or serve a chat completion with no choices (#44709)
* fix(caching): never store or serve a chat completion with no choices A provider response with empty choices was written to the response cache and served on every identical request until the TTL ended, with no provider call in between. The cache now skips storing such a response and treats an already stored one as a miss, so the next request goes back to the provider and its answer replaces the entry. * fix(caching): skip responses with no output on the Responses API and Anthropic Messages too * fix(caching): skip streams and stored entries that carry no output A chat or text completion stream whose chunks carried no choice is closed by the stream wrapper with one empty choice of its own, so the assembled response passed the choices check and was cached. The assembled stream is now judged on its content: a stream with no text, tool call, or other output in any choice is never stored, on the async and sync writers alike. The Responses API stream writer and the Anthropic Messages stream writer apply the same no-output check before storing. A stored entry with no output read through the worker memory tier is now evicted from that tier on the miss, so the next read reaches Redis where the refill lands; the text completion and messages writers only write to Redis, and the memory copy otherwise kept missing until its own TTL. * test(integration): response cache cells for answers without output Deterministic cells for the response cache on every unified endpoint, streamed and not, through the OpenAI and Anthropic SDKs and raw httpx, plus the sync SDK paths, stale entries, malformed answers, per-request TTLs, cache delete, and chaos (Redis stopped or paused mid burst, a worker killed, in-memory cache mode). The scripted upstream counts only POSTs as deployment calls, since the proxy's boot-time GET /v1/models discovery of a config deployment is not one. * test(caching): pin the stored entry timestamp in the worker-copy test * test(integration): drop the restating comments from the chaos cells * test(integration): close the breaker on the first call after the Redis restart --------- Co-authored-by: mateo-berri <277851410+mateo-berri@users.noreply.github.com> |

feat(mcp): hand listed-tool description and input schema to pre-call hooks per caller (#41162)
* feat(mcp): hand listed-tool metadata to pre-call hooks with per-caller catalog identity Track the tools each MCP server listed per caller identity so pre_mcp_call and during_mcp_call hooks receive the tool description and input schema the client saw. Servers with no caller-dependent inputs share one slot; user identity, forwarded headers, stdio env, relayed bearers, and server-specific auth get their own. Local registry and OpenAPI paths pass the registered metadata and admin description overrides. The Agent 365 guardrail reads the new fields into its evaluate payload. Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * refactor(mcp): drop the listed-tools empty sentinel and routine test docstrings Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(mcp): mark the listed-tools cache digest as a non-security hash Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(mcp): key the listed-tools cache by the OBO subject token token_exchange servers list upstream with the caller's own Entra bearer, so two callers on one LiteLLM key with different subjects were sharing a catalog slot Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(mcp): resolve the BYOK credential before keying the listed-tools slot Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(mcp): drop the OAuth discovery cache when a server definition changes Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * refactor(mcp): drop a diff-narrating comment Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(mcp): never validate a supplied header on the tools/list BYOK path The pre-listing resolver ran the tool-call byok_auth_required check even when the caller already supplied x-mcp-auth, and it ran outside the per-server error boundary, so a single deprecated-header caller dropped the server from the aggregate list. Listing now returns a supplied header unchanged and falls back to the stored credential without raising Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * test(mcp): assert the BYOK listing lands in the caller's listed-tool slot Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * test(mcp): cover the deprecated string x-mcp-auth header on a BYOK tools/list Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(mcp): key the per-caller listed-tool slot by the hashed token Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(mcp): key discovery cache by the hashed token Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(mcp): key discovery caches per caller correctly and drop stale caches on server updates Discovery-list cache identity now uses the hashed token instead of the raw api_key and treats MCPJWTSigner-signed servers as per caller. Server definition changes also drop the cached upstream OAuth metadata. OpenAPI listings look tools up under the normalized registry prefix with the separator, so an overlapping sibling prefix no longer leaks into the list. Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(mcp): keep the discovery cache digest call unchanged so CodeQL matches the existing alert Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * refactor(mcp): derive the listed-tool caller identity from the discovery cache key Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(mcp): guard OAuth metadata cache writes with a per-server generation and drop unproven per-caller discovery keys An upstream metadata fetch that started before a server edit could store its stale reply after invalidate_oauth_metadata_cache ran. Invalidation now bumps a per-server generation and the fetch only stores when the generation it captured before I/O is unchanged. The MCPJWTSigner-based per-caller discovery classification and the api_key to token key change had no reproduction (the signer only injects on tools/list, and UserAPIKeyAuth hashes api_key in place), so both go back to the merge-base behavior. Integration coverage under tests/integration/mcp: overlapping OpenAPI aliases, a config-declared server name with a space, OAuth metadata refetch after a save, and the in-flight stale-write race Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(mcp): keep OAuth metadata generations only while a fetch is in flight Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(mcp): count queued OAuth metadata fetchers so invalidation survives lock handoff Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(mcp): keep a held OAuth metadata lock registered even when no fetcher slot claims it Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * test(mcp): prove a peer worker drops stale upstream OAuth metadata after a save elsewhere Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * test(mcp): return one masked text per scanned string in the selected-guardrail REST test Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(mcp): fold the signed caller into the discovery digest instead of a second key hash Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(mcp): satisfy type discipline gate on listed-tool identity Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(mcp): hand tools/call hooks the exact catalog entry tools/list served get_listed_tool re-applied the admin description override on top of the cached listing, so a guardrail-masked description was restored to its original wording at call time, and the OpenAPI / local-registry call path built its metadata from the registry instead of the guarded caller catalog. Both paths now return the cached entry as served, falling back to the registry only when no listing was recorded Adds tests/integration/mcp/test_mcp_listed_tool_metadata.py (red on the prior head for the two regressions, red on the merge base for the feature, green on this head) Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(mcp): key OpenAPI listed-tool entries per caller so tools/call reads its own guarded listing Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * test(mcp): align listed-tool slot tests with per-caller keying Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(mcp): keep oauth2 listing on the minted or signed credential, not the stored BYOK secret The listing helper that keys the per-caller catalog by the stored BYOK credential also handed that credential to the upstream client, which on an oauth2 server short-circuited the client_credentials mint and the MCPJWTSigner gate. Split the two: the catalog identity keeps the stored credential so tools/call finds the caller's slot, while an oauth2 server's tools/list sends only the per-request header, letting the M2M mint or signed JWT proceed as on main Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * test(mcp): oauth2 BYOK listing sends the minted token, not the stored secret, through the real proxy Integration cell for the listing fix: a client_credentials BYOK server with a stored user credential, one tools/list as that user, the peer must see a live minted bearer and one /token mint. Red at the pre-fix tip (zero mints, stored secret upstream), green at the fixed head and at the merge base Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(mcp): keep the stored BYOK credential for catalog identity only on tools/list Listing used the resolved stored credential both to key the caller's catalog slot and as the upstream transport header, so REST api_key and bearer_token listings sent the user's secret instead of the server's static token and the MCPJWTSigner gate went quiet. The upstream client and the signer gate now read the caller-supplied mcp_auth_header for every auth type, exactly as before the catalog existed, and the stored credential only names the slot tools/call reads Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(mcp): type the listed-tool metadata read from pre-call kwargs for the basedpyright gate Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(mcp): hand never-listed tools/call hooks name and arguments only The local-registry call path fell back to the registry entry with the admin description override when no tools/list had been recorded for the caller, so a pre_mcp_call guardrail scanned a description the caller was never served and blocked OpenAPI calls that passed before, and base's own selected-guardrail REST test failed on the two-text redaction. _registered_tool_metadata now returns the listed entry or None, so a tools/call with no prior listing sends name and arguments only as promised, and that REST test double goes back to its base shape * fix(mcp): keep during_mcp_call hooks on name and arguments only call_tool handed the caller's listed entry to the during-hook task as well, so during_mcp_call guardrails scanned the description line and schema leaves of any listed tool after the upstream call had already run, blocking calls that passed before whenever the policy matched the description, returned a fixed-length texts list, or hit the depth guard on a deep schema. The listed entry is only disclosed for pre_mcp_call, so the during task no longer receives it and its request object carries no description or schema, as before * fix(mcp): key the BYOK catalog slot by the client's header, not the stored credential tools/list resolved the stored BYOK credential to pick the caller's catalog slot, which read the credential store before the classified try block. With Postgres down and a cold per-worker cache that made every REST tools/list on an is_byok server fail with tools=[] and no upstream call, and the read seeded the per-worker cache (including a negative entry), so a tools/call on another worker after a store, rotate or revoke on this one kept using the stale value. The slot is now keyed by what the client supplied plus the caller's hashed key, on both sides. _get_tools_from_server and call_tool take a keyword-only catalog_auth_header that defaults to mcp_auth_header as received (the default is the builtin Ellipsis so it survives a module reload). The /mcp fan-out and execute_mcp_tool, which swap the resolved credential into mcp_auth_header, pass the client's value explicitly. What goes upstream is unchanged. _byok_catalog_auth_header is gone. * fix(mcp): drop a listed catalog recorded across a server save _record_listed_tools ran after the awaited upstream fetch, so a PUT /v1/mcp/server that landed mid-fetch had its invalidation undone when the fetch completed: hooks then saw the pre-save description next to the post-save definition until the next listing, instead of name and arguments only. The manager now keeps a per-server listed-tools generation, bumped by _invalidate_server_definition_caches. _get_tools_from_server reads it before the fetch and _record_listed_tools skips the write when it moved; the next listing records normally. * fix(mcp): drop the catalog again once a saved OpenAPI server's registry is rebuilt add_server and update_server publish the saved definition before the OpenAPI registry entries are rebuilt from the spec, so a listing recorded during that fetch held the pre-save entries under the new generation. The generation is bumped a second time after the registry refresh. The during-hook task no longer accepts a listed entry, the one-line wrapper over get_listed_tool is inlined at its two call sites, and the per-server generation map is a plain dict. * fix(mcp): keep discovery and OAuth metadata caches across an OpenAPI spec re-read add_server and update_server ran the full server-definition invalidation a second time after the awaited OpenAPI spec fetch, which also dropped the prompts/resources/templates discovery entries and the OAuth protected-resource metadata filled under the already-published definition, so the next request went upstream again. Only the listed-tool catalog recorded during the fetch holds pre-save entries, so the post-fetch pass now drops just that catalog and bumps its generation via the new _drop_listed_tools helper, which the full invalidation also calls. * fix(mcp): look a called tool up in the listed catalog by its bare name only get_listed_tool stripped the server prefix a second time when the exact name was absent from the caller's listing, so a never-listed upstream tool whose bare name starts with the server prefix resolved to the listed sibling and that sibling's description and input schema reached the pre-call hooks for a call to a different tool. Every caller already passes the once-stripped bare name, so the lookup is now exact. Tests that looked the catalog up by a prefixed name now use the bare name the callers pass; two new tests pin the never-listed sibling case at the manager and at the tools/call path. * fix(mcp): record a listed-tool catalog only for a listing the caller is served _get_tools_from_server now records the catalog into the caller's listed-tools slot only when asked (record_listing=True), which the served listings pass: the /mcp and Responses API tools/list handlers via _get_tools_from_mcp_servers, MCPServerManager.list_tools, and the REST listing via _list_server_tools. Four internal listings stop recording, so a later tools/call hands pre_mcp_call hooks name and arguments only, as on main: - _list_tools_before_first_call, the implicit listing inside tools/call when this worker does not yet expose the tool - fetch_pinnable_tool_catalog, the admin pin snapshot listed without the catalog guard and without description overrides - _initialize_tool_name_to_mcp_server_name_mapping, the startup fill - get_tools_for_server, used by the semantic tool filter _create_prefixed_tools returns to its tool-name mapping job only; the record follows it in _get_tools_from_server. * fix(mcp): opt every listing out of catalog recording unless it is served The aggregate listing and _list_mcp_tools now default to record_listing=False, so a catalog fetched inside a tools/call no longer fills the caller's listed-tools slot. The /mcp/proxy meta-tools (call_tool, search_tools, get_tool_schema) and the tool-search virtual tool stop recording: /mcp/proxy serves only the meta-tools and the search serves only its hits, so a later pre_mcp_call hook was reading a description the caller never listed. The tools/list handler, the Responses MCP handler and the /v1/mcp/tools management listing opt in with record_listing=True, since each serves the catalog to the caller. * fix(mcp): key the listed-tool slot by the caller's admission identity and forwarded bearer The slot a tools/list records for a later tools/call was keyed by (user_id, api_key) only, so every team-only JWT caller shared one slot and one JWT user acting in two teams shared a slot; a tools/call then handed pre_mcp_call hooks a description another caller was served. The slot is now keyed by the hashed key, user, team and organization, plus the admission credential of a caller admitted with neither a key nor a user. The caller bearer split the slot only on client-forwarded-token and token-exchange servers; a legacy delegated oauth2 server (delegate_auth_to_upstream without client credentials) also forwards it upstream and served a different catalog per bearer into one slot. The bearer now splits the slot on every server whose egress forwards it (_consumes_caller_authorization) or exchanges it. * fix(mcp): record only tools served by the bridge Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(mcp): keep bridge tool metadata request-local * refactor(mcp): centralize listed catalog recording guard * fix(mcp): preserve base TPM reservations for listed tool calls * fix(mcp): preserve project token reservations for listed calls * fix(mcp): record served catalogs and preserve call message bytes * test(mcp): align listing expectation with deferred recording * test(mcp): audit listed metadata across callers and bridge lifecycles * test(mcp): preserve guardrail fixture worker affinity * refactor(mcp): expose listed catalog recording API * feat(mcp): pass served_tools through the anthropic messages bridge /v1/messages auto-execution now hands this request's resolved tool definitions to _execute_tool_calls, matching the Responses and chat completions bridges: the pre_mcp_call hook receives the description and input schema the model was shown for that call. Request-local only; the shared listed-tools catalog is untouched. * test(mcp): pin served_tools handoff on the anthropic messages bridge Mirrors the credentials-forwarding test: the request's resolved tool definitions must reach _execute_tool_calls under served_tools so pre_mcp_call hooks judge the call on the description and input schema the model was shown. Fails without the previous commit's one-liner. * style(mcp): sort the local import block ruff flagged * fix(mcp): keep the admin include_disabled_tools view off the listed-tools catalog GET /mcp-rest/tools/list?include_disabled_tools=true is the admin-only configuration view: apply_tool_filters is False, so it serves the full server catalog. Recording that response into the caller's listed-tools slot warmed tools/call metadata no runtime listing ever served, breaking the only-a-served-listing-records invariant (Bugbot). The record is now gated on apply_tool_filters; disabled tools stay unreachable (the call-time allowlist 403 fires before hooks), so the observable fix is the slot no longer warming from a settings view. Verified live: the new test fails on the unfixed head and passes here, and the rest of the listed-tool-metadata suite is unchanged. --------- Co-authored-by: yucheng <yucheng@berri.ai> Co-authored-by: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> |

feat(anthropic): workload identity federation and pluggable identity sources (#44448)
* feat(anthropic): workload identity federation and pluggable identity sources Backend half of #38818 (internal copy of the fork PR #38013), rebuilt as one commit on top of litellm_internal_staging without the dashboard changes. Deployments on anthropic/ without a static api_key can exchange an OIDC workload assertion for a short-lived sk-ant-oat01 token through a shared RFC 7523 JWT-bearer engine. The assertion comes from a mounted token file, an env token, a LiteLLM-signed issuer, or Keycloak, chosen per deployment, per named credential, or through ANTHROPIC_IDENTITY_SOURCE. The federation fields are server-owned: refused inline in request bodies and on POST /model/new, proxy-admin only on credentials, and the token exchange is pinned to api.anthropic.com unless LITELLM_ANTHROPIC_WIF_ALLOWED_HOSTS adds a host. GET /credentials/{name}/jwks exports the public key set of a LiteLLM-signed credential for the Claude Console. The OpenAI federation trio from #39613 rides along on the backend side with the same server-owned handling. Fixes #28607 Resolves LIT-6107 Co-authored-by: derhornspieler <15236687+derhornspieler@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(anthropic): let batch-result downloads mint from deployment params and accept host:port allowlist entries The files handler enabled workload identity on batch-result downloads but never received the deployment's litellm_params, so a deployment authenticating through a named credential could only mint from process-wide env vars. It now threads litellm_params through to the auth header the way the batch retrieve path already does. LITELLM_ANTHROPIC_WIF_ALLOWED_HOSTS entries written as host:port were read by urlsplit as a scheme, so the allowlist kept the raw entry while the exchange compared bare hostnames and refused the gateway. Entries are now parsed as network locations whether or not they carry a scheme. * fix(types): move the WIF kwargs key sets to a leaf module so the kwargs funnel imports without a cycle * test(anthropic): pin case-insensitive matching of WIF exchange-host allowlist entries * fix(anthropic): end workload identity federation errors without a period so the router suffix reads cleanly * fix(proxy): decrypt stored litellm_params before the WIF write gate * fix(proxy): hide WIF secret references from /health output * fix(proxy): keep the proxy error shape on credential endpoint refusals * fix(proxy): hide identity token file paths from /health output * fix(anthropic): rename the federation workspace param so Bedrock's anthropic_workspace_id keeps working The Bedrock Claude Platform route already reads anthropic_workspace_id from optional_params, so banning that spelling as a server-owned federation parameter broke a pre-existing client capability. The federation field is now anthropic_federation_workspace_id (env ANTHROPIC_FEDERATION_WORKSPACE_ID), which restores the base branch's behavior for Bedrock callers, drops the Bedrock-specific hint from the refusal message, and deletes the unconditional ban constant that no longer had a reader * fix(auth): share one exchanged token across workers reading the same assertion Anthropic accepts each identity assertion exactly once, so two uvicorn workers reading the same token file both minting from it means the second exchange is denied with jti_reused. Minted tokens now land in a per-user 0700 cache directory guarded by a file lock, so workers on the same host reuse one exchange until the token expires or the assertion rotates. A 401 is only retried when the re-read assertion actually differs, and the denial hint explains jti_reused. LITELLM_TOKEN_EXCHANGE_CACHE_DIR moves the cache and an empty value disables it * fix: keep anthropic federation from being shadowed or leaked An empty or whitespace-only ANTHROPIC_API_KEY counted as set, so a federated deployment sent an empty x-api-key on every call instead of minting a token. Blank values now read as unset, and a real static key on a federated deployment logs once that it outranks federation and nothing is being federated. The exchange-host allowlist matched hostnames only, so a second process on another port of an allowed host was trusted with the workload's identity token. An entry that names a port now trusts that port alone, while a bare host still trusts every port. The shared token store exists so the workers reading one projected token file do not each spend its single-use jti. A source that mints its own assertion per exchange shares nothing with another worker, so it no longer writes a live token to disk for a lookup that can never hit. * fix: unlink a staged token file a failed write leaves behind The 401 denial hint now also says federation ignores ANTHROPIC_WORKSPACE_ID, which the Bedrock Claude platform provider already reads. * refactor: move anthropic jwks derivation behind a provider-owned tagged union * fix: unlink the staged token file when its write fails at close A buffered write only reaches the disk when the handle closes, so a full disk surfaces at close and left the staging file behind holding a usable token. * fix(anthropic): close the staging descriptor before writing the shared token file * fix(wif): judge federation writes by what they set, not what is stored The admin gate read the stored deployment, so a team admin lost edit, delete and Test Connection on any deployment carrying federation params. It now returns early unless the submitted fields touch the federation surface, and a Test Connection probe that points the deployment at its own api_base is still refused, with the 403 no longer wrapped into a 500 The rest of the same review pass: POST /model/new refuses only a blocking value of `blocked`, so a client that always sends `blocked: false` is not turned away; a request body can no longer pick which federated identity to mint as by naming a stored credential; an advisory refresh the executor refuses disarms the entry instead of wedging the identity until the follower timeout; the static-key shadow warning resolves its env fallback inside the cache instead of once per request; credential writes drop nulls before storing them; the token exchange validates the endpoint URL before reading an assertion and keeps refusing redirects across a client heal; /health hides every server-owned federation field from non-admins; and the async create_file and create_batch paths say which setting is missing when the provider resolves no URL * fix(proxy): let a deployment write name a federated credential reject_federated_credential_reference runs from is_request_body_safe, which pre_db_read_auth_checks calls on every route, so it also fired on POST /model/new, /model/update, /model/{id}/update and /health/test_connection. A proxy admin could no longer attach a federated credential to a deployment over the API or the Admin UI, leaving a static config.yaml entry as the only way to configure the feature the rejection told the caller to go configure, and _reject_non_admin_wif_write never got to make the call it exists to make. is_request_body_safe now takes the route and skips only the credential-reference check on the routes that reach can_user_make_model_call. Federation fields typed inline into a body stay refused everywhere, and a call naming a federated credential still cannot pick the identity it mints as. * refactor(proxy): derive health display policy from the federation key sets The health check module hand-copied the five workload identity fields whose value is a credential, so a shared proxy surface named provider-specific parameters and a newly added secret-bearing field would have gone on being displayed until someone remembered both places WIF_SECRET_BEARING_KEYS now sits beside the key sets it splits out of, types/utils derives secret_bearing_wif_litellm_params from it, and the health layer splats that tuple the same way it already splats the admin-only one * fix(anthropic_wif): treat blank identity-source fields as unset * test(proxy): classify the federation params in the credential slot registry main's registry test (#43298) now fails the build for any credential-named deployment param without a classification. The five federation fields that carry a token, a token file path, or a signing or client secret reference are Unplanted, matching WIF_SECRET_BEARING_KEYS; the four remaining Keycloak settings name a URL, a client id, an auth method, or a scope and are NotSecret * fix(anthropic_wif): declare federation params as owned connection leaves and chart their metrics Register the 18 Anthropic and 3 OpenAI federation params as frozen ConnectionSettings leaves so the owned-kwarg registry, the kwargs funnel and the request-body ban list read one declaration. Pass the deployment api_base through to the count-tokens handler instead of a pre-suffixed URL, which doubled the /count_tokens path on main's prompt-cache predictor. Add the five litellm_anthropic_wif_* families to the all-metrics Grafana dashboard. * fix(credentials): gate PATCH on WIF fields resolved from model_id The credential PATCH handler checked server-owned workload identity federation fields only on the values the caller sent, while a body that named a deployment through model_id had its credential values resolved after that check. A non-admin could therefore copy a federated deployment's WIF fields onto an ordinary credential. Resolve the incoming values first and run the non-admin gate on them, matching the POST path * fix(anthropic): count tokens with ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN through the shared auth header Count-tokens walked its own credential ladder: a static key, else skip minting when ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN is set, else mint a federated token. With only the auth token set it forwarded nothing and the proxy silently fell back to its local tokenizer while chat on the same deployment authenticated with that token. The handler now takes the auth header that AnthropicModelInfo.aget_auth_header resolves, the same ladder chat, files, batches and skills use, and merges the oauth beta a minted or consumer token carries with the token-counting beta --------- Co-authored-by: mateo-berri <277851410+mateo-berri@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: derhornspieler <15236687+derhornspieler@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: mateo-berri <happymvw@gmail.com> |

fix(router): stream /v1/messages lifecycle frames live when no fallback can take over (#43600)
* fix(router): stream anthropic messages lifecycle frames live when no fallback can take over The /v1/messages streaming wrapper buffered message_start and content_block_start until the first content_block_delta and dropped pings behind buffered frames unconditionally, even for requests no fallback could ever recover. With adaptive thinking on Bedrock or Vertex the client saw no bytes for the whole thinking pass and hit read timeouts. Buffering now applies only while a fallback can still take over (generic or refusal chain resolving), and a ping is always forwarded live since it carries no lifecycle and keeps the connection alive.
