fix(gemini): add thought_signature_in_tool_call_id to keep tool call ids short for clients that cap them (#47692)
* test(e2e): add gemini tool call id length repro for LIT-8912 Co-Authored-By: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(gemini): add thought_signature_in_tool_call_id to keep tool call ids short for clients that cap them * fix(gemini): pair a tool result with its call when the client re-adds the thought signature to the call id Strands, which the AgentCore harness runs, puts provider_specific_fields.thought_signature back on the assistant tool call id as <id>__thought__<signature> while its tool result keeps the bare id, so the Gemini conversion found no matching call and answered 500. Ids now match with the signature suffix stripped. Also adds thought_signature_in_tool_call_id to the litellm_params inventory test and gives the pass-through tests' mocked logging objects the litellm_params a real Logging object always has. * fix(gemini): keep the thought signature on streamed Messages and Responses tool calls and accept a string setting * fix(gemini): read the thought signature back from Responses input and coerce the per-request setting A Responses function_call input item now keeps its provider_specific_fields, so a client that sends the item back gets its real thought signature replayed to Gemini. A per-request thought_signature_in_tool_call_id of "false" or 0 now keeps ids short, and a value that is not a boolean answers 400, or is dropped under drop_params, instead of a 500. The e2e test now uses the sdk fixture and @meta subjects * fix(caching): key the response cache on thought_signature_in_tool_call_id * fix(responses): send thought signature fields only with short ids and drop malformed routing kwargs whole * fix(main): validate routing kwargs after the locals snapshot so fallbacks and model_list calls keep working The e2e test now uses gemini-3.8-flash with enough max_tokens to finish thinking before the tool call. * fix(gemini): keep non-chat routes tolerant of a malformed thought_signature_in_tool_call_id, match tool results by exact id first, and keep the deployment's value when drop_params drops a malformed override * fix(router): validate strict litellm params through a helper so star imports cannot re-bind a public Final * perf(router): skip strict validation when a request overrides no deployment param * fix(responses): keep a dict tool call's thought signature on the streamed function_call done item * refactor(main): return invalid supplemental params as a value and test the streaming tool call with a real response --------- Co-authored-by: Devin AI <158243242+devin-ai-integration[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> |

fix(realtime)!: send the Gemini Live setup at the first content so session.update settings apply (#39864)
* fix(realtime): send Gemini Live setup on the client's first message so session.update modalities apply Gemini and Vertex AI Live accept exactly one setup per session, and the proxy sent its default audio setup at connect, so a client's session.update (GA output_modalities or beta modalities) was dropped and every answer came back as audio. The setup now goes out on the client's first message: a session.update becomes that setup, anything else gets the model default. Bedrock Nova Sonic keeps its connect-time setup through a provider hook. Text setups label deltas response.output_text.delta, and downgrading TEXT to AUDIO on an audio-only model logs a warning * fix(realtime): keep one Gemini Live response modality and skip the "inf" token limit in the setup * fix(realtime): merge every session.update sent before the first content frame into the Gemini Live setup Gemini and Vertex Live accept one setup per connection, so the bridge used to turn only the first session.update into that setup and drop the rest without telling the client. Now every session.update that arrives before the first content frame is held, deep-merged (later values win per field), acknowledged with a session.updated built from the setup it would produce, and the merged session becomes the one setup sent with the first conversation item, audio frame, or tool result. The session events also surface the systemInstruction text as instructions, which the old string check never matched because the setup carries it as a Content object. * fix(realtime): cap the session.update merge depth so the recursive detector accepts it _merge_session_fields recurses once per nested mapping level, so CI's recursive_detector flagged it. Bound the descent at eight levels (the OpenAI session object nests four deep at most), replace anything deeper wholesale with the later session.update's value, and list the helper with the other depth-capped functions the detector allows. * fix(gemini-live): accept a string output modality and drop values Live cannot produce A bare string output_modalities is read as a one-element list and modality values Gemini Live cannot produce are dropped with a warning instead of reaching the backend, so a malformed session.update no longer costs the session. Transcription guardrails now fold their VAD disable into the first held session.update only, so the merged setup carries it exactly once. * fix(gemini realtime): answer an error for session updates Gemini Live cannot apply An output modality the model cannot produce, or a session.update sent after the first content, now gets an invalid_request_error event instead of a silent swap or drop, unless drop_params is set. The synthetic session.created reports the model's default modality, setupComplete no longer adds an extra session.updated, and merging nested session updates is linear in their size * fix(gemini realtime): send the setup before guardrail blocks and idle deadlines, mark push-to-talk turns A pre_call guardrail blocking the first typed message now goes out after the setup, so Gemini and Vertex no longer close the session with 1007. Push-to-talk sessions (turn_detection null or create_response false) wrap each audio turn in empty activityStart and activityEnd messages, which Gemini needs when automatic activity detection is off. A session with no content after 60 seconds sends its setup, since Vertex refuses a setup 300 seconds after connect. Held session.update frames past 10 MB answer session_update_too_large, and deferred mode now errors on a second session.update unless drop_params is set. * fix(realtime): ack unchanged Gemini Live session.update resends and honor null turn_detection An update that leaves the applied setup unchanged now gets session.updated instead of session_update_not_applied, so clients that resend their session with the first response keep working. Deferred setup mode merges held updates like the default mode, turn_detection null turns Gemini's activity detection off, drop_params drops a voice outside the documented Live voices, and the lazy setup deadline moves to 240 seconds * fix(realtime): keep Vertex activity detection off for null turn_detection and set up deferred sessions before text content * fix(realtime): refuse unscreenable Gemini audio, send held setup after buffered audio, reject unknown Vertex voices A realtime_input_transcription guardrail cannot screen Gemini Live audio before the answer starts, so audio input under one is refused with an audio_input_not_screenable error instead of reaching the model. In deferred setup mode a session.update that follows buffered audio is sent as setup at once. Only conversation content triggers the setup, so control events no longer lock in a default one. Vertex rejects an undocumented voice on the session.update, or drops it with drop_params, while Google AI Studio forwards any name. * fix(realtime): hold first content so a following session.update joins the Gemini setup Convert flat realtime tool schemas through Gemini's schema builder, and collapse a text and audio pair to what the model can produce on text-only models too * fix(realtime): check AI Studio Live voices like Vertex * fix(realtime): forward any voice to AI Studio Live models that accept it * fix(realtime): map OpenAI TTS voices before the Live voice check, keep outage spend rows, share the playground session config The Live voice gate now judges the Gemini voice an OpenAI TTS name maps to, so fable and onyx reach Vertex as Umbriel and Orus again. An upstream close before the held setup was sent is logged as a session, not a refusal. The playground sends one server_vad session config for typed and voice turns, and the e2e, integration, and dashboard tests follow lazy setup. * fix(realtime): take the lazy setup clock as a dependency so its tests run on a stepped clock The deadline and grace tests waited on real 50 ms timers, and the merge cost check compared wall-clock runs. The session now reads an injected clock, time.monotonic by default, the two tests step it, and the merge cost check moves to the CodSpeed benchmarks. The Nova Sonic style handler test passes the backend through wrap_backend, which main added after the test was written |

feat(router): opt in to non-chat deployment filtering (#46257)
* feat(proxy): reject chat routes on models declared non-chat via model_info.supported_endpoints A model whose every deployment sets a non-chat model_info.mode and a supported_endpoints list with no chat endpoint now answers /v1/chat/completions, /v1/messages and /v1/responses with a 400 before any provider call. Models without both fields keep today's behavior. * fix(proxy): let fallbacks answer and cover more chat routes in the non-chat model check The check now steps aside when a request, key, team or router fallback would answer, skips such models in the rate-limit fallback loop, ignores mode and supported_endpoints copied from the cost map by old Admin UI saves, treats a blank mode as unset, and also covers /v1/completions, the Responses WebSocket, Gemini generateContent and /v1beta/interactions * fix(proxy): only step aside for fallbacks that can answer chat, gate the Responses WebSocket after alias resolution, and compare declarations to the loaded catalog * fix(proxy): gate the Responses WebSocket with the router after aliases resolve, and ignore client-set internal fallback flags * fix(proxy): walk fallback groups breadth first and release reservations on a rejected WebSocket Each fallback group is looked up once however often the request repeats it, and a WebSocket closed by the endpoint gate runs the failure hook so rate-limit reservations are released * fix(proxy): walk fallback layers without recursion and gate the compact Responses route The fallback walk now folds one layer at a time, so the recursion check passes, and /v1/responses/compact on a model declared non-chat gets the same 400 as the other chat-shaped routes * fix(proxy): keep chat on rows whose cost map entry serves chat A row that carries the cost map key of an entry that serves chat counts as declaring nothing, so a catalog edit that adds a chat path never turns old Admin UI copies into 400s * fix(proxy): check chat sent to a deployment id or backend model name * fix(proxy): check a model the read-through loads from the database * fix(proxy): step aside for fallbacks the check cannot follow and wildcards that serve a backend name A fallback target with no deployments of its own, a client routing stamp, and a wildcard that does not match the requested backend name no longer turn a working request into a 400 * fix(proxy): ignore a client model_group that is not a string when building rate-limit headers A client metadata.model_group sent as an int or a list crashed the error handler with a 500 once the embedding-only check rejected the call before routing. The header helper now treats a non-string stamp as no model group. Drops the pattern clause in the backend-name lookup, since the group lookup already returns wildcard matches. Adds the third audit round's routing-stamp cells. * fix(proxy): keep a non-string client model_group out of spend rows * fix(proxy): validate standard fallbacks before the typed fallback-group lookup * feat(router): opt in to non-chat deployment filtering * fix(router): skip unresolved local rate-limit fallbacks * fix(router): ignore caller-provided endpoint selector values * fix(router): normalize declared chat endpoint prefixes * test(router): cover preflight error-value behavior * test(router): derive replay metadata defaults from model info * fix(router): preserve fallback aliases and check synchronous text calls * test(routing): rewrite the WebSocket model with a pre-call callback, since main no longer runs guardrails at socket admission * test(routing): keep the endpoint gate's owned proxies on the worker's database * fix(router): keep the endpoint gate on model_info patches that omit it and on same-group stream retries A partial PATCH of model_info reset a stored enforce_supported_endpoints true back to false, because the field defaulted to False and the update merges model_dump(exclude_none=True). The field now defaults to None so an omitted flag keeps the stored value The same-group retry of a stream dropped before content called the provider without the endpoint selection context, so it could land on an enforced embedding-only deployment of the same group. It now runs inside endpoint_selection like every other router attempt * fix(router): probe rate-limit fallbacks through get_routable_deployments so the router surface does not grow Main's router fence lets code outside the router use only listed Router members and router_utils modules. The proxy's fallback probe now calls the listed get_routable_deployments with the request's call type, and the gate's 400 moves to litellm.exceptions as EndpointNotSupportedByModelError. It stays separate from main's UnsupportedEndpointError, which the router retries on the group's other deployments, while the gate refuses the whole group * test(responses): cover the WebSocket error frame for a model that refuses the endpoint * fix(proxy): let the rate-limit fallback probe try a fallback this worker has not loaded yet The probe now skips a fallback only when the endpoint check removed every deployment it has, so a model added on another worker still reaches route_request and its database lookup * fix(proxy): keep key router settings off the Responses WebSocket, read unrooted or single-string endpoint lists, and add status to the refusal frame * fix(router): warn when enforce_supported_endpoints has no usable list and match chat endpoints regardless of case, trailing slash, or Gemini path * test(router): type the load-warning test's caplog and router * test(routing): match the endpoint gate's integration tests to base fallback behavior on unloaded fallbacks and the Responses WebSocket --------- Co-authored-by: Mateo <mateo@Mateos-MBP-2.localdomain> |

fix(completion): send prompt_cache_retention to OpenAI instead of silently dropping it (#47480)
* fix(completion): send prompt_cache_retention to OpenAI instead of silently dropping it litellm.completion(), Router.completion() and the proxy's /v1/chat/completions accepted prompt_cache_retention and listed it as a supported OpenAI param, but completion() never handed it to get_optional_params, and the leftover-kwargs paths skip known OpenAI params, so it never reached the request body. Make it a named argument of completion() and acompletion() like prompt_cache_key and pass it on. A unit guard sends every OpenAI body param through completion() and fails when a param added to OPENAI_CHAT_COMPLETION_PARAMS has no case proving it reaches the wire, the same hole store and prompt_cache_key fell into in #33184. Live e2e tests capture the body OpenAI receives for the proxy, the SDK and the Router on both openai/gpt-5.5 and openai/responses/gpt-5.5. * chore(completion): type the param-forwarding unit test and keep the basedpyright count flat Every new completion() kwarg adds one unknown-argument error at each call site that splats an untyped dict into it; typing print_verbose's argument and Chat's params removes more than prompt_cache_retention added. * test: freeze the outbound-body model and read captured requests from the mock Addresses review: the e2e body model is frozen, the backend params are a tuple, and the unit test reads the request from the respx route instead of appending to a list. |

feat(count_tokens)!: configurable token_count_framing and token_count_model, count source in the response (#46777)
* feat(count_tokens): configurable token_count_framing and token_count_fallback_model, count source in the response
Count endpoints now say where each number came from in litellm_count_source
(provider, fallback_model, local_estimate) and name the fallback model in
litellm_count_fallback_model. When the provider answers 400 or 404 for a model
it cannot count, the proxy counts the same request with token_count_fallback_model.
token_count_framing adds a per-model constant to local estimates. Both settings
ship in the cost map for Bedrock Claude Sonnet/Haiku 5.5, Bedrock Kimi K3, and
Databricks Kimi K3 and DeepSeek V4 Flash, and can be overridden in model_info.
* test(count_tokens): classify the new cost map keys in the schema generator and expect count_source in exact-shape tests
* test(count_tokens): e2e matrix against real inference and integration wire tests for count source, fallback and framing
* fix(count_tokens): keep the provider error when local counting is disabled, name the fallback error, keep settings in cooldown
Moves the cost map lookup off the event loop
* ci(cost map): bound token_count_framing to non-negative and token_count_fallback_model to non-empty
* fix(count_tokens): keep a failed fallback's own status, ship fallbacks only where they count, add system.ai framing
A fallback model that answers 404 returns the requested model's error unchanged, and any other fallback
failure answers with its own status and message. The eu, apac, au and jp Sonnet and Haiku 5.5 entries
no longer ship the Opus 5.5 fallback, which AWS serves only in us-east-1. A configured empty
token_count_fallback_model turns the shipped fallback off. Config framing accepts whole-number floats and
rejects negatives. The Databricks system.ai Kimi K3 and DeepSeek V4 Flash names carry the same framing as
their serving endpoint names, and the e2e matrix runs on Bedrock Haiku 5.5 too.
* test(databricks): list the system.ai Kimi K3 and DeepSeek V4 Flash names with their published DBU rates
* fix(count_tokens): skip a token count fallback model for an hour after it answers 404 on that deployment
A us. or global. Sonnet 5.5 deployment outside us-east-1 paid two extra Bedrock
calls and about 200 ms on every count, since Opus 5.5 cannot count there either.
The Kimi K3 e2e also runs the large system prompt shape now.
* test(count_tokens): use the shared integration port allocator in the fallback wire test
* fix(cost map): keep the Databricks system.ai entries to framing only, so their spend stays as today
* test(count_tokens): cover the fallback 404 skip, inference profile base_model, shipped framing, and deployment-scoped token count settings
Adds integration cells for a fallback model that answers 404, an application inference profile ARN deployment whose base_model carries the shipped fallback, and the shipped Kimi K3 framing with token_count_framing 0 turning it off. Adds unit tests that keep token count settings off the shared backend cost map key and that store a token count setting on PATCH only when the operator changed it
* fix(count_tokens): keep the counter's own 400 and the provider's error when a framed estimate cannot read the body
A 400 the OpenAI or Gemini counter returns before calling the provider is the caller's answer, so it no longer tries the fallback model or a framed estimate. When the framed local estimate cannot read a content block, the client gets the provider's error instead of a 500. Adds /audit round 2's integration tests for the fallback leg's converted body, the Anthropic envelope on fallback failures, and both framing cases.
* fix(count_tokens): answer the provider's error whenever a framed estimate raises
A tool schema the local estimate cannot format, such as a boolean subschema or an array with no items, raised AttributeError or KeyError and answered a 500 on a framed deployment whose provider had already answered 400. Any estimate failure now answers the provider's own error.
* fix(count_tokens): load the custom tokenizer inside the guarded framed estimate
A framed deployment whose custom_tokenizer could not load answered a 500 or 503 where the provider had already answered 400, because the tokenizer was selected outside the estimate's error handling. Selecting it inside answers the provider's error, logs a warning with the estimate's error, and still raises the Rust extension's fork-guard errors.
* fix(count_tokens): look up framing under the deployment's custom_llm_provider
* fix(count_tokens): share one tokenizer download per worker and bound the wait after a provider error
A framed deployment whose custom_tokenizer is not cached locally made every
count wait out the Hugging Face hub's whole retry cycle when the hub could not
be reached, and a burst of those loads held the default thread limiter that
every count's cost map lookup also needs. Counts on a worker now share one
download per minute, a failed download is reused for the rest of that minute,
and after a provider error a count waits at most 5 s before answering the
provider's error. The swallowed-estimate warning logs only the error type.
* fix(count_tokens): keep one tokenizer download per key running and load the local route per request
* test(count_tokens): type the scripted counter and wait on events instead of wall time where possible
* fix(count_tokens): run framed tokenizer loads on their own capped threads and answer a tokenizer panic with the provider error
Framed loads used anyio's default 40 threads, so a hub that drops packets let about 40 hanging loads stall every count on the worker. Loads now run on a per-worker pool of 4, and a count that finds 4 loads running answers the provider's error at once. Any finished load is reused for a minute after it finishes, so a load that fell back to tiktoken is not retried on every count. A pyo3 PanicException from the tokenizer, while loading or counting, now answers the provider's error instead of a plain 500
* feat(proxy): count tokens with token_count_model in its pinned region
token_count_model {model, region} replaces token_count_fallback_model. Bedrock Sonnet and Haiku 5.5 count with Opus 5.5 in us-east-1, or Melbourne for au. profiles, and a failure names the region to enable
* fix(count_tokens): use the renamed count model constant in the e2e test and list token_count_model with the object keys
* fix(proxy): keep the upstream error envelope when adding the region hint
* test(proxy): annotate the token count setting echo test
* ci(cost map): require non-blank token_count_model strings and test the region rules
* fix(count_tokens): answer the token_count_model's error even when framing is set
* fix(count_tokens): keep the provider error for Google contents instead of a framed estimate
* fix(count_tokens): estimate Google contents the route translated to messages
* fix(count_tokens): keep the provider error for Google contents with non-text parts
* test(proxy): drive tokenizer wait and cost map tests by events and a skippable loop clock
* fix(count_tokens): check Google text-only parts without a KeysView comparison basedpyright flags
* feat(proxy): count Bedrock Kimi K3 tokens exactly with its pinned tokenizer
* test(bedrock): keep the Kimi K3 image check in-process
* fix(count_tokens): join the region hint to an upstream message that already ends with a period
Also pins that a blank token_count_model in config falls through to the cost map default
* fix(count_tokens): count Gemini tool-call turns and Responses tools, and stop tokenizer retries from stalling counts
The Google countTokens route estimates contents with functionCall, functionResponse and thoughtSignature parts again, and still answers the provider error for media, thought and unknown parts
The Kimi K3 exact count renders Responses API and Anthropic tools through the chat tool translation the Vertex count already used, now shared from the prompt factory, and falls back to the estimate when the Converse body cannot carry a tool
A failed Kimi K3 tokenizer load is retried in the background without making counts wait, and a load still running after the wait logs a warning
* fix(count_tokens): count Kimi K3 tools the way Bedrock inference sends them
A flat Responses API function or custom tool becomes the chat tool the
Responses route sends to inference, and every other tool goes to the
Converse body as is, so hosted tools Bedrock drops are left out of the
count instead of being counted or turning it into an estimate.
* test(count_tokens): annotate new token counter test locals with Final
* fix(count_tokens): keep shipped count regions inside the deployment's geography
A plain Bedrock Sonnet or Haiku 5.5 deployment in a non-US region no longer sends its count prompt to us-east-1. Global count models and configured token_count_model keep their pinned region. Also expect litellm_count_source in the Vertex Llama count test main added
* fix(count_tokens): resolve count settings off the event loop

test(e2e): assert the Vertex cache-creation billing contract in the prompt caching test (#47027)
The cache-creating call now reports cache_creation_input_tokens on top of Vertex's own prompt count and bills the write at the input rate, as Google does. The old assertions assumed neither, so the test went red on every run. Check the cache write, the discounted read, and that a second identical call reuses the cache instead. |

fix(providers): route Azure Responses past dated api versions, count Grok reasoning tokens on azure_ai, refresh provider sets after register_model, fix gpt-6.1-sol Azure rows (#46377)
* fix(azure): add responses_api_version so the Responses route stops using the deployment chat api_version * fix(azure_ai): fold Grok reasoning tokens into completion_tokens like the xai provider * fix(utils): refresh provider model sets after register_model * fix(cost-map): align azure gpt-6.1-sol reasoning effort flags with the openai row * test(e2e): cover Azure Responses on a deployment pinned to a dated chat api_version * fix(utils): keep router deployment ids out of provider model sets register_model now refreshes the provider sets, so the per-request and router registrations keyed by a deployment id put those opaque ids into wildcard model listings. Those callers now pass add_to_provider_model_sets=False. * fix(azure): carry responses_api_version through the chat to Responses bridge completion() dropped responses_api_version from the litellm_params it hands the Responses bridge, so azure/responses/<model> on a dated chat api_version still built the 404ing /openai/responses URL. Also cover the auto-router marker never forwarding the new param. * fix(azure): stop listing a wrong set of reasoning efforts when none is rejected The message said only low, medium and high are supported, which is wrong for models that also take xhigh such as gpt-6.1-sol. * test(azure): use the latest grok and gpt-5.4 rows in the new azure tests * fix(proxy): list each wildcard-expanded model once A provider set can hold a model both bare and provider-prefixed, which now happens after any priced request registers its openai/<model> key, so the openai/* listing showed that model twice. * fix(azure): route Responses past dated GA api_versions by default A deployment pinned to a dated GA api_version such as 2024-10-21 for chat now sends Responses calls (create, get, delete, cancel, input_items and the azure/responses/ bridge) to the default Responses version, because those dated versions have no Responses route on Azure and 404. responses_api_version still overrides it, -preview, v1, latest and preview versions are kept, an api-version in the api_base query still wins, and chat keeps api_version as before * chore(azure_ai): mark the grok chunk_parser dict as an override contract * fix(azure): rewrite only the route's /openai segment when moving a call to v1 The v1 rewrite in the Azure URL builder replaced every "/openai" substring in the path, so a gateway api_base like https://apim.example.com/openai-gw/team turned into /openai/v1-gw/team/openai/v1/responses. Dated GA Responses calls now land on the v1 route by default, which made this reachable for them too, so the rewrite now only touches the last /openai path segment. The Responses version resolver no longer duplicates the builder's default for an unset api_version. Tests cover the gateway api_base case, the env AZURE_API_BASE query-string precedence, and the e2e suite now has one test for the dated GA default and one where only responses_api_version can make the call work * test(integration): cover Azure Responses api_version, Grok reasoning spend, wildcard listing and reasoning_effort none Wire tests pin the Azure route and query for chat, Responses and the azure/responses bridge on a dated GA api_version, and check responses_api_version never reaches the request body. Cost cases check azure_ai Grok folds reasoning tokens into completion_tokens and spend, streaming and not. A config-driven proxy checks /v1/models next to an openai/* wildcard lists each id once and never a deployment id. Azure gpt-6.1-sol rejects reasoning_effort none before reaching upstream and drops it with drop_params * fix(utils): list ai21 chat and vertex code models under their provider wildcard register_model now files ai21 chat models into ai21_chat_models, which models_by_provider never read, so a registered ai21 chat model dropped out of ai21/* listings. models_by_provider now reads ai21_chat_models and the vertex code chat and code text sets too. * fix(main): keep caller-chosen model names out of provider wildcard listings --------- Co-authored-by: yuneng-jiang <yuneng@berri.ai> |

fix(bedrock)!: replay redacted_thinking on Converse and keep its data as Claude's own string (#46532)
* fix(bedrock): send redacted_thinking back to Converse as reasoningContent.redactedContent Replaying an assistant turn that carried a redacted_thinking block to Bedrock Converse turned it into an empty unsigned reasoningText, which the assistant content builder then dropped as blank text. Bedrock returned 200 so callers never noticed. Map redacted_thinking to redactedContent in both the thinking_blocks and inline content paths of the sync and async builders * fix(bedrock): drop blank redacted_thinking data and keep non-str signatures signed on Converse replay * fix(bedrock): replay redacted_thinking to Converse only when the target is Claude Nova, Llama, DeepSeek and gpt-oss reject reasoningContent.redactedContent with a 400, so a Claude history replayed to them through a Router fallback or model switch keeps dropping the redacted block the way main does. Claude is resolved from the Bedrock base model of the target, and an application inference profile ARN counts as Claude when its deployment's base_model names a Claude model. Adds integration contracts for the replayed Converse request shape, stream and non-stream, with a tool call, and for non-Claude and ARN targets. * test(e2e): cover Bedrock Converse replaying redacted_thinking live through the proxy Turn 1 triggers redacted thinking on Claude Sonnet 4.6, turn 2 replays it, and a live edge between the proxy and Bedrock checks the replayed Converse body carries the same reasoningContent.redactedContent. Covers nonstream, stream and a tool call round trip * fix(bedrock): validate litellm_params before reading the deployment base_model litellm_params arrives as an untyped dict, so passing it straight into the typed helper grew reportUnknownArgumentType. Validating it into Mapping[str, object] first keeps the read typed without growing the type-check gate * fix(bedrock): wrap non-Converse redacted_thinking data and let a named model id win over base_model * test(bedrock): cover redacted_thinking minted outside Converse, model_id and the sync Router base_model path * fix(bedrock): match bare claude- base_model names without reading the untyped cost map * fix(bedrock): keep redacted_thinking data as Claude's own string on every route Converse hands redactedContent back base64-wrapped, and that wrapper used to leak out as data, so a Converse turn replayed to Invoke or the Anthropic API was rejected. Converse replies now decode it, Converse requests wrap it exactly once, and the Anthropic-shaped builders unwrap histories saved with the old wrapping. Responses API encrypted reasoning is no longer sent to Claude on Converse, which rejected it with a 400 |

fix(openai): carry cache_control to prompt_cache_breakpoint on chat completions to gpt-5.6 (#46101)
* fix(openai): carry cache_control to prompt_cache_breakpoint on chat completions to gpt-5.6 A cache_control mark on a system, developer, user or tool message sent to /v1/chat/completions now reaches an OpenAI deployment that reads prompt_cache_breakpoint (gpt-5.6+ on api.openai.com, or one opted in through prompt_cache_options) as a prompt_cache_breakpoint on the same content part, instead of being stripped. Marks on assistant turns and tool definitions are still dropped, and deployments that do not read breakpoints keep today's behavior. * test(openai): rewrite chat prompt_cache_breakpoint wire test as sent-vs-received literals Each test now shows the request the caller sends and the exact body OpenAI receives as plain JSON, with one helper that returns the upstream body. Drops the per-test marker plumbing and the spend-log check, which did not test the cache mark translation. * test(openai): cover a marked chat message with null content on the breakpoint path A system, developer, user or tool message that carries cache_control but whose content is neither a string nor a list of parts is handed to the existing strip untouched instead of raising inside the transform. The new case pins that the request still goes out with the mark stripped and no breakpoint added. * refactor(openai): reuse the cache control hook's breakpoint placement on chat completions The chat transform had its own copy of how a message-level cache_control lands on a part for OpenAI's prompt_cache_breakpoint. It now calls one hook helper that the injection path also uses, so which roles and part types can carry a breakpoint is decided in one place. A message-level mark on list content now lands on the last part OpenAI accepts a breakpoint on, matching injection. * test(e2e): cover cache_control reaching gpt-5.6 explicit prompt caching on chat completions Four live cases through the proxy: a marked system part, a marked string system message, a marked user part and a marked tool result. Each must write the cache on the first call and read it on the second. * fix(openai): parse content parts instead of a banned TypeGuard when renaming cache marks The strict ruff gate bans typing.TypeGuard as unverified narrowing. The part rename now validates an accepted part with pydantic before handing it to the shared rename helper. |

fix(bedrock_mantle): send max_completion_tokens for gpt-5.6 and gpt-6 chat completions (#43982)
GPT reasoning-series models (gpt-5.x, gpt-6) on Bedrock Mantle chat completions now send max_completion_tokens, carrying a deployment or client max_tokens over with its value. Every other Mantle chat model keeps sending max_tokens. |

test: migrate tests/llm_translation into unit, integration and e2e tiers (#45759)
* test: migrate selected llm translation contracts * test: migrate anthropic completion translation tests * test: migrate bedrock and cohere translation tests * test: tighten bedrock translation migration * test: migrate azure and openai model translation tests * test: migrate openai and small-provider translation tests * test: migrate gemini and vertex translation tests * test: migrate optional params and rerank translation tests * test: migrate huggingface, json and openrouter translation tests * test: fix openrouter integration expectations * test: migrate databricks, xai, cometapi and fireworks translation tests * test: migrate ovhcloud, prompt and small provider translation tests * test: split reasoning effort grid into unit and e2e * test: migrate router and realtime guardrail translation tests * test: migrate google interactions translation tests * test: migrate a2a, evals, skills and hosted vllm translation tests * test: remove remaining llm translation suite * test: tighten migrated llm translation unit tests and land missing rows Restores rows the first pass dropped or weakened (bedrock agentcore and openwebui thinking stream, anthropic prefix, citations and tool_choice, azure agents handler, huggingface bare api_base, optional params num_retries, alternating roles, rerank response type), replaces truthiness and call-count checks with whole-value assertions, and moves tests to the mirror file of the code they cover * test: move cohere, databricks, fireworks and gemini rows to mirror files over mocked HTTP Restores three TestCohereV2Transform methods the first pass nested out of collection, replaces direct transform calls with respx-backed completion calls, and drops the databricks and fireworks files that sat outside their mirror paths * test: close lost-intent gaps found in review of the llm translation migration Points the hosted-mock guard at the triton test's new integration path, restores exact rerank result assertions for infinity, drops the reasoning e2e fallback that passed for any multi-line answer, and adds the mixtral invoke system prompt variants, eval deletion, and async pdf url download that the legacy suite exercised * test: assert provider acceptance in the reasoning effort e2e The live half of the split grid proves each route accepts reasoning_effort. claude-fable-5-1 on the direct route answers without surfacing reasoning content, so a reasoning-presence check either fails on head or needs a fallback that passes for any answer. Wire shape stays covered by the unit grid * test: cover async and stream-end paths the legacy translation suite exercised Adds async variants for bedrock converse file and thinking content, bedrock embedding timeout and region resolution, interaction stream termination and success logging, xai reasoning token folding, and bytes chunks with a prefix before data:. test: migrate local_testing SDK and provider tests out of build_and_test (#45760)
* test: migrate local_testing SDK and provider tests out of build_and_test * test: cover sagemaker region, hf template and nova paths end to end Region rows now go through litellm.completion on the sagemaker/ handler that the legacy tests exercised, the prompt template test mocks the Hugging Face tokenizer config instead of switching to custom_prompt_dict, streaming tests assert role, finish reason and body, and Nova single turn and streaming run through litellm.completion with a recorded request body * test: tighten migrated integration tests for local OpenAI routes, timeouts and air-gapped boot Split the catch-all providers migration file by behavior. The fake endpoint route tests now hit the owned upstream directly, as the legacy harness tests did. LM Studio asserts the outbound key, path and stripped model. The embedding timeout test asserts the proxy maps a deployment timeout to a 408 and forwards the read timeout to the provider client, instead of timing out the test client The Azure streaming tool-call test also asserts the second identical stream is served from the Redis cache with the same reassembled tool call The Docker network test always skipped in CI because the security job has no litellm/litellm image and no egress to pull one, and it tested a published image rather than the checkout. It now boots the checkout proxy with every outbound HTTP connection refused and asserts readiness, the bundled cost map fallback and that the cost map host is the only egress attempted * test: tighten the migrated e2e rows for local_testing SDK and provider tests Drop the duplicated Anthropic covers marker and the Anthropic cell wrongly claimed by the Bedrock and Vertex cache tests. Keep the file-wide Anthropic model as it is on main. Send the 2023-06-01 version header to Anthropic through the deployment's extra_headers so the header actually reaches the provider, and mark the creation-token case 1h then 5m like the legacy test did Reuse the Bedrock file's own registration for the pydantic response test, swap the hand-built PNGs for the shared cat.jpg fixture, assert the SageMaker Nova image answer names the cat and that top_logprobs=3 is honored, and register the SageMaker Nova opt-in markers the same way as the other opt-in markers * test: restore lost assertions in migrated test_main tests Restore the role alternation check in test_completion_anthropic_hanging, the embedding and streaming response-header checks, the logit_bias drop check and the gemini system and safety settings checks. Add an azure 429 retry-after test for test_exception_with_headers, trigger the router fallback with mock_timeout like the legacy test, and stop the mock timeout tests sleeping 3s * test: restore lost legacy assertions in migrated vertex ai unit tests * test: tighten migrated cost, streaming and embedding tests and scope the hosted mock guard * test: strengthen migrated anthropic, azure, bedrock and cohere provider tests Assert full request bodies and usage instead of presence checks, restore the dummy-tool and custom_llm_provider assertions the legacy tests made, add the async and per-model variants the legacy parametrization covered, split streamed tool arguments across deltas, and move the Azure chat streaming tests to the azure.py mirror file * test: tighten migrated llms provider tests and cover legacy intents lost in the move Strengthen the migrated fireworks, gemini, mistral, together, openai text completion, openrouter, perplexity and openai error tests so they assert what the legacy tests proved (cost, provider tag, usage-only-on-last-chunk, function_call rebuild, reasoning param, sync/async/stream error fields). Replace the huggingface and jina tests that doubled litellm code with respx end-to-end tests. Add the tests the pre-existing mapped tests never covered: cohere 400 mapping, token-array text completion, hosted_vllm/llamafile/lm_studio env api base embeddings, watsonx embedding auth, ollama ssl_verify client and ollama vision prompt * test: cover residual legacy paths for anthropic tool streams, watsonx async stream, ollama http images and caller async embedding clients * test: restore single request assertions in the deep_infra and azure_ai embedding tests * test: drop a no-op streaming cost flag from the openai streaming cost test * test: cover residual legacy-test lines in caching, main, utils, replicate, vertex and bedrock invoke * test: cover streamed audio assembly, choice membership, untranslated responses events and the stream log guard * test: pin cost rates in unit tests, use sdk for cohere e2e, drop vertex llama e2e * test: send the vertex maps e2e request through the openai sdk * test: drop the local_testing jobs that select no tests after the migrations * test: wait for the streamed cache entry and keep custom Mistral rates test-local * test: keep untouched Mistral test lines as they were --------- Co-authored-by: yuneng <yuneng@berri.ai> |

test: fix stale and flaky tests across CircleCI, GHA and Buildkite (#45530)
* test(integration): poll the partition lock witness off the event loop The witness poll ran a blocking psycopg connect and query on the test's event loop, so the partition DDL task only progressed during the 20ms sleeps and missed the 3s deadline on loaded runners. Polling through asyncio.to_thread lets the DDL reach the held lock concurrently, and the deadline is 10s since it only bounds how long the DDL takes to start waiting * test(e2e): retry the reasoning turn until the model emits a reasoning item Whether gpt-5.4-mini emits a reasoning item next to a forced function call is up to the model, and it skipped it on four scheduled runs while a same-SHA rerun passed. The first turn now retries up to three times before the unchanged reasoning-item assertion * test(e2e): retry a Bedrock Converse model once when it reports no cache tokens Opus on Bedrock Converse reported zero cache tokens on half of the scheduled runs while a same-SHA rerun passed. A model that comes back uncached is asked once more inside the 5 minute window, and the non-zero cache token assertion is unchanged * test(e2e): poll until a deleted stored response stops being retrievable Azure kept serving a just-deleted streamed response for a moment, so a single retrieve did not raise. Both delete tests now poll retrieve until it returns an error and still require a 4xx * test(e2e): give the Together prompt cache five primed attempts Together documents its prefix cache as best-effort, and three primed attempts came back with zero cached tokens once while a same-SHA rerun passed * test(e2e): allow 30s for the idle RSS reading at session start A loaded router replica took longer than 10s to answer the session-start memory read, which pytest reruns cannot recover. The RSS budget assertion is unchanged * test(e2e): scope the MCP submission check to its own card The register call timed out at 15s on a loaded stack and leaked a submitted server, so the retries matched two "3 passing, 1 failing" cards. Registration gets 60s and the check reads only the submitted server's card * test(router): wait for the primary success record before counting it The shadow fan-out test waited only for the two shadow success events and then asserted exactly one primary success, which the logging worker sometimes had not delivered yet. It needed a rerun on 5 of 59 main runs * test(proxy): give the spend-log cleanup run a 1s budget A 0.25s budget could expire before the first batch on a loaded xdist worker, leaving rows_deleted at 0. One second still stops the 50-batch, 5-second loop on the deadline, which is what the test proves * test(autorouter): release the slow token count at 2.05s instead of 2.3s The count only has to finish after a quarter of the 8s worker budget, and the planner gives it 3s, so releasing at 2.3s left 0.7s of slack that a loaded runner used up. 2.05s is still past the quarter mark with almost 1s of slack * test(xai): run the reasoning-effort tests on grok-4.6 with a prompt that needs reasoning grok-4.7 now returns reasoning tokens without any reasoning text, so reasoning_content was never set and both tests failed on every scheduled run. Called directly, grok-4.6 returned reasoning text 6 of 6 times on a step-by-step arithmetic prompt but only some of the time on a bare greeting * test(integration): give the two worker-kill chaos tests the owned-proxy time budget Each test spends about 50s on the burst and then up to graceful_stop_seconds() stopping its owned proxy, which overran the 90s default pytest timeout on loaded runners. They now use the same 2 * graceful_stop_seconds() + 120 budget as other owned-proxy tests * test(integration): compare regional image responses without their created timestamp Two identical generations that straddle a second boundary differ only in created, which failed the byte-for-byte comparison. Every other field and both spend rows are still compared * test(integration): count only the S3 logger's flush task The set of asyncio tasks created while the logger starts also picked up client close finalizers left by earlier tests, so the count ranged from 1 to 8. The test now counts the periodic_flush task it owns and cancels * test(integration): send guardrail timeout probes eight at a time All 44 probes went at once to a two-worker proxy, so on a loaded runner some guardrails used their whole 1s timeout before their request left the proxy, and the sink never saw them. A different set of providers failed on each run. Eight in flight still overlaps the waits * test(integration): count a killed Arize chaos worker as gone once it is a zombie psutil reports an unreaped zombie as still running, so the 10s death check failed whenever the supervisor was slow to reap the SIGKILLed worker, and the stop then overran the 90s default timeout. The test now accepts a zombie or a missing process and has the owned-proxy time budget * test(integration): send the Typesafe connection test its real model and endpoint The test passed the proxy alias as litellm_params.model, and /health/test_connection lays the request over the stored deployment, so the alias replaced the real typesafe/ model and the check failed with "LLM Provider NOT provided" on every run since it landed in #45481. It now sends the provider model, api_base and api_key directly * test(integration): keep DB-stored models out of the usage-routing Redis read test The owned proxy inherited store_model_in_db and the job's shared database, so a model another test left behind joined the router and added its cooldown key to the MGET the test compares exactly. Reproduced locally with one /model/new model present (3 failed), and green with model loading from the database turned off * test(vertex_ai): prove the batch upload streams by laziness instead of peak memory The two tracemalloc ratio tests flaked on unrelated PRs because peak memory on a shared xdist worker includes other threads' allocations and garbage from earlier tests. They are replaced by deterministic checks of the same property: the upload stream parses and maps a row only when it is pulled, so a body whose tail is not JSON yields its valid rows first, and a Path source reflects a row rewritten on disk after the upload started. Making the parse, the output, or the file read eager fails these tests * test(integration): keep the alias test_connection call as a known bug * test: type the counting mapper and the Bedrock rerun helper * test: annotate the new test locals as Final and build them as tuples * test(vertex_ai): prove pull-driven transforms with the garbage tail alone |

fix(bedrock): forward each Nova Sonic assistant sentence once over the realtime API (#44987)

test: repair stale and polluting tests red on scheduled main CI (#44229)
* test(proxy): stop the proxy_server app fixture leaking LITELLM_LOG The session app fixture set LITELLM_LOG=ERROR with os.environ.setdefault and never removed it, so later tests on the same xdist worker inherited it. test_drop_params_env_var spawns a subprocess with os.environ and lost the warning it asserts on. Scope the variable to the import with a MonkeyPatch context * test(secret-detection): give the hand-built redaction request an ASGI path Since #43975 _read_request_body checks the route path via request.scope, and a scope without path raised KeyError that was swallowed into an empty body, so chat_completion failed with a missing messages parameter. Real ASGI scopes always carry path * test(integration): isolate litellm callback lists per sdk test usage-based-routing-v2 Routers register their selector in litellm.callbacks and nothing removes it, not even Router.reset(). The counter TTL and Redis service metrics tests left their selectors behind, and the next usage routing test ran their pre-call checks against its own rpm=1 deployments, raising "Deployment over defined rpm limit". An autouse fixture now gives each sdk test copies of the callback lists and restores the originals afterwards * test(integration): keep the owner-lookup fault proxy off the shared read replica The owned proxy points DATABASE_URL at a scratch database but inherited DATABASE_URL_READ_REPLICA from the replica job, so auth read the shared database and rejected the freshly created key with token_not_found_in_db. Drop the replica variable like the other scratch-database owned proxies * test(integration): request every seeded key in the team owner breakdown The aggregated team activity endpoint now caps breakdown.api_keys at the top 100 keys by default (#43398), so the 300 seeded keys came back as 100 rows. The test guarantees each key is reported with its own owner, so ask for an api_key_limit that covers all seeded keys * test(integration): give every owned Redis its own port in the redis-cache container On CircleCI every owned Redis ran on the fixed port 16379 inside the shared redis-cache container. When an earlier server still held that port, the new one failed to bind, readiness pinged the old server, the pidfile read failed and cleanup then reported "Owned Redis still serves after shutdown" Reserve an ephemeral port for the docker-exec path the same way the local binary path already does, and refuse to start when something already serves the chosen port so the failure names the real cause * test(e2e): skip the Vertex Mistral partner case the e2e project cannot reach The e2e Vertex project gets a 404 publisher model not found for vertex_ai/mistral-small-2503, so the case can only fail * test(e2e): skip the Vertex gpt-oss partner case the e2e project never serves vertex_ai/openai/gpt-oss-120b-maas has hit a 60s read timeout with no response headers on every run in the e2e Vertex project since the case was ported, and no other Vertex partner chat model passes there to switch to * test(e2e): check only stored message content for a leaked card number The Presidio spend-log check ran the card-number pattern over the whole serialized response, so a Luhn-valid usage.cost float (0.0003466000000000001) failed the streaming /v1/messages case although the stored content was <CREDIT_CARD>. The check now reads the content and text strings of the stored response, which is where a raw card would land, and still requires the placeholder there * test(e2e): assert the proxy decodes token-array embeddings for titan The port in #44120 carried over a legacy SDK-direct test that expected Bedrock to reject token ids with a 400. Through the proxy, /embeddings decodes token arrays to text for providers that cannot embed tokens, so titan answers 200. The test now sends a token array and its decoded sentence and requires the two vectors to match, which fails if the proxy stops decoding or decodes with the wrong tokenizer * test(e2e): run the Bedrock extended-thinking round trip on a model that honors enabled thinking us.anthropic.claude-sonnet-5-5 is adaptive-only, so litellm sends thinking.type=enabled with a 1024 budget as adaptive with low effort, and Bedrock returned no reasoning blocks on 5 of 5 identical Converse calls (boto3 direct agreed). us.anthropic.claude-sonnet-4-6 accepts the legacy shape verbatim and returned reasoning on 5 of 5. The non-thinking Bedrock case stays on sonnet-5-5 * test(proxy): stop unit modules forcing DEBUG logging into the event-loop lag tests Five tests/unit modules set verbose_proxy_logger to DEBUG at import, so every xdist worker that collected them logged the 2.4MB pass-through response from a worker thread, and secret redaction of that line held the GIL for ~0.8s+ inside the timed window. The lag tests now pin the LiteLLM loggers to WARNING and freeze gc while timing, and the module-level DEBUG overrides are removed * test(e2e): cite the tokenizer and date behind the titan token-array fixture * test(e2e): let migration seed replicas finish their request-log indexes before cloning Since #43948 a serving proxy builds the two LiteLLM_SpendLogs indexes on a background thread after it reports ready. The seed fixtures stopped the replica at readiness, so every cloned legacy database lacked an index no real deployment would be missing, and the v2 baseline diff refused it. Seeds now wait until both indexes exist and are valid in the database's schema * test(passthrough): give the pass-through MockRequest an httpx URL and ASGI scope #43626 made get_request_route read request.scope during pass-through kwarg setup; the MockRequest in tests/unit/passthrough had neither a scope nor a URL object, so both stream-param tests raised before reaching the code they check. Mirrors the repair #43626 made to the tests/pass_through_unit_tests fake * test(integration): ignore foreign allow_all_keys MCP servers in the access matrix tool list test_toolset_gateway_url_serves_a_team_granted_toolset_to_a_key_without_its_own_grant (#43908) registers an allow_all_keys server on the shared gateway, and allow_all_keys servers are listed to every key by design, so a matrix case running on another xdist worker at the same time saw its tools. The matrix now drops tools of allow_all_keys servers it did not create, read from LiteLLM_MCPServerTable before and after listing, and still compares everything else exactly |

test(e2e): move live-provider legacy tests into tests/e2e (#44120)
* test(e2e): move live-provider legacy tests into tests/e2e Port legacy tests that exercise real providers into the tests/e2e suites that own them, using the harness (/model/new plus deferred cleanup) and asserting on what the caller receives. Delete legacy tests already covered at equal or stronger strength by e2e, integration or unit tests, and drop the now empty ocr_testing CircleCI job * test(e2e): address review on the live-provider test move Assert the SSE error frame a client actually receives when a post_call guardrail blocks a stream, and require a tool call for every requested city before checking the answer. Restore the OCR matrix and its CircleCI job, the Claude Agent SDK streaming test, and test_async_create_batch, since their SDK-level and callback assertions have no equivalent in tests/e2e * test(e2e): accept both guardrail block shapes on a blocked stream A post_call block before the first chunk reaches the client as HTTP 400 with either a JSON error body or a single SSE error frame, depending on whether the block surfaced as an exception or an error chunk. Assert the policy message is present and the blocked output is absent in both * test(realtime): restore direct SDK realtime tests against OpenAI The e2e realtime tests go through the proxy and the remaining SDK tests either mock the upstream or assert less, so keep the direct litellm._arealtime tests with and without intent, and TestOpenAIRealtime::test_realtime_connection, in place * test: make realtime and Nova stream checks deterministic The direct SDK realtime tests now fail on a refused connection instead of skipping. The with-intent test asserts OpenAI rejects the exact intent value sent, which only happens when the intent is forwarded. The Nova /v1/messages stream test asserts stream structure, stop reason and usage instead of model wording * test(realtime): own intent forwarding with a unit test instead of a live rejection Assert litellm._arealtime passes the intent query param into the OpenAI realtime websocket URL, which is the behavior LiteLLM owns, and drop the live test that depended on OpenAI's rejection wording |

test(e2e): bill Sail windows that synchronous calls can still use (#44058)
Sail now rejects completion_window "flex" on synchronous requests with a 400 saying flex is only for background responses or Batch work. The chat flex case and the responses flex case have failed on every scheduled litellm-e2e run in builds 337, 340 and 341. The chat cases keep balanced and auto, and the responses case sends a caller metadata.completion_window of balanced, so both still prove the window reaches Sail and the bill uses that window's distinct rates |

test(ci): repair stale tests and flaky CI infrastructure (#43983)
* test(ci): add used_client_oauth_token to the GCS pub/sub spend-log golden #43063 stamps used_client_oauth_token into spend-log metadata, so test_async_gcs_pub_sub_v1 failed on main with an extra metadata key * test(ui): give the auto-router threshold save wait room for the availability debounce #42625 keeps Save disabled while a 300ms-debounced availability check runs. This test waits for Save right after the change, so the whole debounce lands inside waitFor's 1s default and it times out under CI load. It is the recurring UI Unit Tests failure on main since #42625 landed * test(e2e): expect no pricing tier on bills for streamed calls OpenAI served at default #42870 added both the rule that a served default or standard tier bills at base pricing and records no service_tier, and streamed tests expecting the row to record 'default'. They have failed on every scheduled litellm-e2e run since. The tests now map the served tier to the pricing basis the bill must record and check input is billed at that basis's rate; the messages case registers custom rates so the rate check has something to compare against * test(e2e-ui): wait for the call-id search before hovering the logs row The row the spec hovers is already on the unfiltered first page, so it was found before the search request returned. The search response then re-rendered the table under the mouse, and the Base UI tooltip never opened. Reproduced with Playwright against a local proxy: hovering right after the fill never shows the tooltip, hovering after the search response shows the call id every time * test(e2e): run the Together structured-output case on the hybrid Qwen with reasoning off The case picked the cheapest Together row flagged supports_response_schema. DeepSeek-V4-Flash-0731 hit its cost-map deprecation date on 2026-09-29, so the pick moved to GLM-5.3-Flash, a reasoning-only model that spends the 1024-token budget thinking and returns content=None. Qwen3.5-9B is the pinned hybrid model the reasoning_effort=none case already exercises, and Together lists it with structured output support * test(integration): read the agent 365 guardrail status by its own name in spend logs The MCP shard runs under xdist against one database, and a sibling file creates a default_on pre_mcp_call content filter there. The owned proxy reloads DB guardrails, so that filter's 'success' entry could land first in guardrail_information and the test read it instead of the agent 365 verdict * test(unit): ignore asyncio's leaked-task records in the budget limiter push-failure log check gc.collect() inside the caplog window can collect a pending task an earlier test left on a closed loop, and asyncio logs 'Task was destroyed but it is pending' into this test's records. The check still counts every LiteLLM logger, and unretrieved task exceptions on this loop still go through the asserted exception handler * test(e2e-ui): fill the create-tag fields inside the dialog #42949 added 'Filter by tag name' and 'Filter by description' inputs to the Tag Management page, so page-wide getByLabel('Tag Name') and getByLabel('Description') match two elements and Playwright's strict mode fails the create step * test(integration): run integration proxies with the CI license Multi-worker proxies start each uvicorn worker in a fresh process, so every worker reads the license from its environment. Forward LITELLM_LICENSE into the proxy and test runner environments * ci: save GitHub Actions caches only from main and bump codecov-action to 5.5.5 Every pull request saved its own uv, maturin, Rust and Prisma caches, about 4.5 GB per PR, so the repository's 10 GB cache budget evicted main's entries within minutes. Pull request jobs then missed every cache, downloaded all dependencies from PyPI and hit the install step timeouts. Pull requests now restore only, and main keeps the caches warm for them. test-linting and check-ui-api-types run only on pull requests and keep saving codecov-action 5.5.4 imports its signing key from the deleted codecovsecurity keybase account, so every upload failed signature verification. 5.5.5 reads it from codecovsecops; the key ID matches the one signing the current CLI * test(unit): join the session-minting thread before collecting the handler asyncio.to_thread resumes the test as soon as the worker sets its result, while the pool thread can still hold the work item and through it the handler. gc.collect() then cannot finalize the handler and the session stays open. A pool that shuts down before the test continues drops that reference * test(integration): relaunch owned proxies that lose their port, expire idle gateway connections early owned_proxy_process released its reserved port and the proxy bound it only after full startup, so another xdist worker or an outgoing connection could take it first and the proxy exited with 'address already in use'. The launch now retries on a fresh port when that happens and stops every failed attempt. uvicorn closes idle keep-alive connections after 5 seconds and httpx expired them at the same 5 seconds, so a request sent right at that mark could reuse a socket the server was closing and get 'Connection reset by peer'. Gateway clients now drop idle connections after 2 seconds * ci(circleci): give the base SDK wheel build the same 30 minute no-output window as the Windows build The release profile builds with fat LTO and one codegen unit, so the final link of litellm-cache-s3 runs silently for minutes. Successful builds take 711 to 749 seconds, right at the default 10 minute no-output limit, and about 30% of recent runs were killed there * test(integration): model the budget-reset database outage as 10 seconds instead of 5 refused connections The proxy retries the database about every 30 seconds and each retry opens roughly one connection, so a 5-connection outage took 3 to 4 retries to clear and recovery landed between 60 and 90 seconds, straddling the test's 80 second reset window. A fixed 10 second outage still refuses the immediate reconnect and recovers on the next retry * ci: move the unit-test uv cache split into a composite action check_workflow_startup_safety sums every setup step's timeout, so the save and restore variants each counted 5 minutes although only one runs. One composite step keeps the setup ceiling at 35 minutes * test(unit): point tiktoken at the bundled cache for every unit test The rust_bridge tokenizer tests loaded o200k_base before any test in their xdist worker had imported default_encoding, so tiktoken fell back to the temp cache and tried to download under pytest-socket. Move the session fixture from litellm_core_utils/conftest.py to the root unit conftest. * test(integration): answer model discovery probes in the hosted_vllm wire tests The router's periodic upstream model info refresh sends GET /v1/models to hosted_vllm deployments, so a wire server that is live during a refresh sees an extra request. Answer the probe with an empty model list and leave it out of the provider-call assertions, matching the responses bridge tests. |

feat(sail): add Sail as a provider with service_tier mapped to its completion window (#42840)
Register Sail (providers.json, LlmProviders.SAIL, OpenAI-compatible lists, ProviderConfigManager) for chat, Responses and /v1/messages, and add its 12 models to both cost maps with asap, balanced and flex price columns. Sail picks speed and price with metadata.completion_window and rejects service_tier, so the Sail chat and Responses configs translate the tier: default and priority to asap, flex to flex, balanced to balanced, auto to no window. Billing prices the window that was sent. A tier Sail has no window for, or a window or tier set where billing cannot see it (request metadata, extra_body), is a 400 unless drop_params is set. Add balanced to ServiceTier and its _balanced price columns to the model info types, the Rust catalog and the dashboard schema. A transform_extra_body hook on the chat and Responses base configs, which returns extra_body unchanged by default, lets Sail keep the window when a caller also sends extra_body.metadata. Sail is listed in the Add Model form and model picker. Co-authored-by: shrey kharbanda <shrey@berri.ai> |

fix(proxy): send a real error event when a /v1/messages stream fails (#41826)
* fix(proxy): send a real error event when a /v1/messages stream fails
When a stream failed halfway through, the proxy wrote the error as a plain
`data: {"error": ...}` line with no `event:` in front of it. Anthropic clients
pick stream events by that name, so they skip the line and the request looks
like it simply stopped with nothing in it.
Write the failure as an `event: error` frame with Anthropic's own payload, and
take the error type from the status code
* fix(proxy): use the shared Anthropic error mapping for the stream error frame
The first pass added a third copy of the status to error-type table, and it
disagreed with the documented one: 529 came out as `api_error` rather than
`overloaded_error`, and 413 as `invalid_request_error` rather than
`request_too_large`, which hides the two failures a client can actually act on.
Drop that copy and put the frame builder next to the table litellm already
keeps in anthropic_interface/exceptions. The bridged adapter path was building
the same frame inline, so it uses the shared one now too
* fix(proxy): seal a torn SSE frame before the /v1/messages error event
An upstream that drops mid-frame leaves the client inside an open event,
so the error frame that follows is glued onto the torn data line and the
Anthropic SDK raises a JSON decode error instead of an APIStatusError.
Close the open frame with a ping event the SDK skips before writing the
error event, and add the e2e stream-cut edge with Bedrock, Anthropic
boundary, and Anthropic mid-frame legs.
* fix(proxy): keep the SSE tail unchanged on a chunk that is not text
A serializer that hands a dict or model object through as-is has no bytes
the frame tail can learn from, so advance_sse_tail leaves it alone instead
of slicing it.
* fix(proxy): answer a /v1/messages stream that fails before its first byte as a JSON error carrying its status
* test: move the Anthropic error frame tests into tests/unit
* test(e2e): cut the upstream stream only after content has been relayed
* test(e2e): carry split SSE lines across chunks and always tear a data line mid-frame
* test(e2e): find the next data line across a chunk boundary before tearing it

fix(anthropic): keep the replayed prefix byte-stable for preserved thinking on chat completions (#42630)
* feat(anthropic): placement policy for mid-conversation system messages Pure functions over the OpenAI-format message list: split off the leading system run, keep later system messages as role=system at a placement Anthropic accepts on models flagged supports_mid_conversation_system (after a user turn, before an assistant turn or the end, never adjacent), and convert them to user turns in place elsewhere, keeping tool_result first in a merged user turn. * fix(anthropic): keep mid-conversation system out of the chat completions system prompt translate_system_message hoisted every role=system message, at any index, into the top-level system block. On a conversation carrying a mid-session reminder that rewrites the cached prefix, so the provider re-bills the whole history at cache-write pricing on every turn (#36559). #36968 fixed this on /v1/messages; the chat completions path, shared by first-party Anthropic, Vertex, Azure AI and Bedrock Invoke, still hoisted. Only the leading system run becomes the system prompt now. Later system messages go through the placement policy, and anthropic_messages_pt emits a system message instead of rejecting the role. The caller's message list is no longer mutated. Tests pin the two-turn prefix invariant across all four chat configs and both flag states. * refactor(anthropic): single-source the converted system note The /v1/messages pass-through and the chat completions path must prefix a converted system turn with the same operator note. * test(e2e): prove the prompt cache survives a mid-conversation system reminder on chat completions Same priming and assertions as the /v1/messages cases, through /v1/chat/completions with OpenAI-format messages, for first-party Anthropic and Bedrock Invoke on a flagged (Opus 4.8) and an unflagged (Haiku 4.5) model. The reminder sits between the assistant turn and the next user turn, the shape OpenAI-style agent frameworks send, which is the placement the chat path has to translate. * test(anthropic): cover the cache_control rebuild shapes and type the test helpers Codecov flagged the 5m ttl branch and the empty-system path of the wire builder; both now have a test. Greptile asked for full typing on the new test helpers. * refactor(anthropic): read the mid-conversation flag through a public supports_ helper supports_mid_conversation_system joins the other supports_* helpers in litellm.utils, so the chat transformation stops importing the private _supports_factory. * chore(typing): declare the mid-conversation type aliases with TypeAlias The Final sweep tightened LIT010, which exempts TypeAlias declarations but counts a bare alias assignment as an unannotated binding. * fix(anthropic): let add_code_execution_tool take the pass-through message union The translator now emits role=system inside messages for models that accept it, so anthropic_messages_pt returns the pass-through union. add_code_execution_tool still declared the narrower user/assistant union while only ever reading content, so upstream's strip_advisor_blocks_from_messages call in between made the mismatch visible to the type checker. * fix(bedrock): keep mid-conversation system messages in place on converse path * fix: ruff format + multi tool_result order + regression test * fix: satisfy type-discipline gate + update osv ignore for mlflow PYSEC-2026-3865 * fix(bedrock): restore role narrowing in hoisted system loop for basedpyright budget * test(bedrock): cover mid-conversation system conversion branches - non-dict guard in _opens_with_tool_result - in-place conversion without tool context - str/list cache_control preservation in mid-conversation path - drop unreachable non-system guard in hoisted loop * Place type-discipline suppressions on the lines the gate scans * Narrow hoisted loop to system role so basedpyright sees the right TypedDict * fix(anthropic): place mid-conversation system runs by their neighbours only A run after an assistant turn now slides behind the user turn that immediately follows it, and a run that ends the array or precedes an assistant turn becomes a user turn in place. No later message can move an earlier run, so a client that replays the conversation with more turns appended sends a byte-identical prefix and preserved thinking blocks keep their binding * refactor(bedrock): share the converted system note with the anthropic module Converse imports CONVERTED_SYSTEM_NOTE instead of carrying its own copy of the same text, and the reordering helpers lose their comments * test: pin the replayed request prefix across preserved-thinking turns One test per audited feature, through the real entrypoint: the chat transformations for anthropic, bedrock invoke, vertex and converse, the modify_params dummy tool result, dotprompt with unchanged variables, and Presidio masking against an in-process fake. Each serializes system, tools and the earlier messages of turn N and N+1 and asserts they match. The e2e mid-conversation system test imports its content blocks from models.py again and is marked provider_live * fix(anthropic): move mid-conversation system placement into prompt_templates The prompt factory imported the placement helper from the Anthropic provider package, whose common_utils reads a factory constant at import time, so loading the factory first raised ImportError. The module now sits next to anthropic_messages_pt and every consumer imports core utils A user turn with content [] or None puts no block on the wire, so a system run anchored to it landed first in messages or behind an assistant turn. Such a run now converts in place; empty strings and empty text blocks still anchor because the factory fills them with a placeholder * fix(anthropic): anchor system messages only on user turns that reach the wire * fix(bedrock): type the converse system-message helpers over the message TypedDicts * fix(anthropic): read replayed pydantic messages in the Converse helpers and convert a system run whose assistant follower sends nothing A history that replays the previous turn as the litellm.Message object was invisible to the Converse system-message helpers, so a mid-conversation system stayed between a tool call and its result or reached Converse as role: system. The helpers now read fields through the shared message_field and parts_of accessors and drop the local role predicate. Flagged placement anchored a system run on any assistant follower, but anthropic_messages_pt drops an assistant turn that puts no block on the wire (content None, an empty list, an unsigned thinking part), so the system landed directly before the next user turn, which Anthropic rejects. Such a run now converts in place. An empty or whitespace text turn still anchors, since the converter pads it with a placeholder. * fix(anthropic): treat bridged encrypted reasoning as a vanishing assistant turn for system placement An assistant turn whose only blocks carry Responses API encrypted reasoning is dropped by anthropic_messages_pt, so a mid-conversation system run anchored before it landed directly before the next user turn. The unsignable-thinking predicate now lives in common_utils and both the factory and the placement policy consult it. * fix(anthropic): let an inline thinking part hide separate thinking_blocks in system placement anthropic_messages_pt skips an assistant turn's separate thinking_blocks as soon as its content list carries an inline thinking or redacted_thinking part, so a turn whose inline part is unsigned puts nothing on the wire even when the separate block is signed. The placement policy now mirrors that rule. --------- Co-authored-by: Shifat Islam Santo <shifatislamsanto764@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: ege-arhan <egearhany@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: mateo-berri <277851410+mateo-berri@users.noreply.github.com> |

test(e2e): tolerate provider-side flakes on five full-suite cells (#42628)
* test(e2e): tolerate provider-side flakes on five full-suite cells Mistral OCR retries a provider-relayed 429 with backoff, the Vertex vision probe turns reasoning off so its 32 tokens go to the answer, the Vertex cache cell spaces eight never-seen prefixes 15s apart around Google's nondeterministic minimum-token rejection and prices the cached tokens instead of prompt_tokens, and the Azure content-policy cell resends the jailbreak prompt while Azure skips its filter * test(e2e): shorten the new helper docstrings * test(e2e): accept a relayed provider 429 on the rust OCR cells The gateway already retries a provider 429 three times per call and the Mistral key is shared across pipelines, so a throttle can hold across all four attempts of the OCR cell. test(e2e): add conversational matrix across chat, messages and responses (#42359)
* test(e2e): add conversational matrix across chat, messages and responses Parameterizes one behavioral contract (reply, stream, cost log, tool call, tool round trip) across /v1/chat/completions, /v1/messages and /v1/responses, OpenAI and Anthropic models, and env-ref vs stored-credential auth, with record/replay fixtures. Adds general_settings.disable_model_info_refresh so the proxy fronting a replay fixture does not poll every OpenAI-compatible deployment's /v1/models in the background, which otherwise leaves unconsumed interactions in the recorded bundle. Merge pull request #42312 from BerriAI/litellm_bedrock_batch_s3_creds_leak
Register s3_access_key_id, s3_secret_access_key and s3_encryption_key_id as LiteLLM-owned batch params so they are no longer forwarded to Bedrock as additionalModelRequestFields (which 400s ordinary chat on a batch-configured deployment), keep them on CredentialLiteLLMParams so the batch/file paths still receive them, and redact the S3 credential key names in debug logs. test(e2e): send no-cache on cacheable SDK calls and accept Bedrock's 400 on the responses leg
The deleted wrapper put cache: {"no-cache": true} on every request body, so the
gateway's response cache never answered a re-sent prompt. The SDKs send nothing
of the sort, and the mid-conversation prompt-cache priming loop re-sends an
identical body until the provider reports a warm cache, which a cached reply
never does. NO_PROXY_CACHE in sdk_clients.py restores the field as extra_body
on every messages, responses, completions, and embeddings call.
The wrapper also returned a 4xx as a value where the SDKs raise. The Bedrock
safety_identifier test judges the captured Converse body, and Claude on Bedrock
rejects the forwarded field with a 400, so the /v1/responses leg now suppresses
openai.BadRequestError the way the chat leg carries the same 400 as a Result.
