redis-py >= 7.4 decorates AbstractConnection.__init__ with @deprecated_args,
whose wrapper is declared (self, *args, **kwargs). _init_arg_names introspects
the wrapper directly, so from redis-py 7.4 the MRO walk loses every real
connection parameter and the from_url allowlist silently drops socket_timeout
and socket_connect_timeout again - the exact regression the allowlist rework
fixed, reintroduced one dependency version later. A url-configured Redis that
blackholes packets then blocks callers indefinitely instead of timing out.
Follow the __wrapped__ chain with inspect.unwrap before introspecting; a no-op
for undecorated __init__s.
Measured across redis-py lines (socket_timeout present in the allowlist):
6.4.0 before/after: yes/yes. 7.1.0: yes/yes. 7.4.1: NO/yes. 8.1.0: NO/yes.
tests/test_litellm/test_redis.py at redis-py 8.1.0: 10 failures before, 3
after (the residual trio is sentinel/cluster password handling, failing
identically without this change).
Two tests: a decorated-fake proving the unwrap mechanism, and a live-invariant
assertion that the installed redis-py's allowlist carries the socket timeouts -
the first thing to go red if a future redis-py changes signature declaration
again.

Two defects combined to make a Redis outage take the proxy down rather than
degrade it.
First, connection kwargs were dropped whenever Redis was configured by url.
_get_redis_url_kwargs built its allowlist from
inspect.getfullargspec(redis.Redis.from_url); from_url is declared
(cls, url, **kwargs), so the argspec carried no connection kwargs and the
function returned ['cls', 'url', 'url']. socket_timeout went with the rest,
and socket_connect_timeout falls back to it, so both ended up None and a
Redis host that drops packets rather than refusing them blocked callers
indefinitely. get_redis_connection_pool's url branch lost the same kwargs by
a different route, rebuilding its pool kwargs from scratch.
The allowlist now comes from the connection class redis-py actually forwards
those kwargs to, walking the MRO because redis-py splits them between
AbstractConnection and its subclasses. Deriving it from the client instead
would admit client-only settings such as single_connection_client and the
SSLConnection-only ssl_* family, which reach AbstractConnection and raise
TypeError on first connect.
Second, the circuit breaker could not trip even once calls failed fast.
_redis_circuit_breaker_guard inferred success from the method returning, but
async_get_cache, async_batch_get_cache, async_set_cache, async_set_cache_pipeline,
async_set_cache_sadd and async_get_ttl catch their own connection errors and
return a default so callers degrade. Each failed call therefore reset the
failure streak and the breaker never opened, so an unreachable Redis stayed in
the pool and every request kept paying a full socket timeout on it. Those
methods now mark the failure and the guard records success only when nothing
failed while the method ran. Lua script execution went through none of this,
which mattered most because the rate limiter issues all of its Redis traffic
that way, so the guard is now a small helper shared by both.
The per-call marker is a ContextVar rather than a counter on the breaker.
Breakers are shared by every concurrent caller, so a shared counter cannot
tell "my call failed" from "some other in-flight call failed", and a success
overlapping someone else's failure would be discarded until a Redis that was
still answering got evicted from the pool anyway.
Only connectivity failures feed the breaker. Command and data errors say
nothing about whether Redis is reachable, and counting them would let a caller
provoke evictions on demand (an INCR against a non-numeric value, say),
dropping rate limiting to per-process counters that spreading traffic across
replicas can outrun.
* fix(proxy): build redis usage cache from REDIS_* env when cache backend is not Redis
Selecting a semantic (or any non-Redis-KV) response cache left
redis_usage_cache unset, silently downgrading cross-pod rate limits,
parallel-request limits, spend coordination, and the pod lock manager
to per-pod in-memory state. Fall back to a standalone RedisCache built
from REDIS_* environment variables, mirroring the existing
use_redis_transaction_buffer escape hatch, which now shares the same
helper.
Resolves LIT-3861
* feat(proxy): configure the coordination redis independently of the response cache
Adds general_settings.coordination_redis, an explicit block for the Redis
the proxy uses for cross-pod rate limits, parallel-request limits, spend
tracking, the pod lock manager, and shared health checks. Resolution order
is the explicit block, then a plain-Redis response-cache backend, then the
REDIS_* environment. Cluster and sentinel targets are supported, and a
cluster target now builds a RedisClusterCache so cluster-aware consumers
take the cluster path.
Admins can configure it from the Caching page of the dashboard via
/coordination_redis/settings, which reports which source is in effect,
redacts credentials on read, and offers a connection test. Settings saved
there are read back at startup so they take effect on restart.
Also fixes redis client construction so an explicitly configured host
outranks REDIS_URL in the environment. Previously the url branch stripped
the caller's host and port, so an explicit block, or a connection test
typed into the dashboard, silently targeted whatever REDIS_URL named
* fix(ui): move coordination_redis_settings into renamed _components directory

When redis_startup_nodes is set the async cluster client was built with no health check and no TCP keepalive, so a connection silently dropped by a cluster restart (e.g. ElastiCache Serverless maintenance) stayed in the pool and got reused while dead; the first command after the restart stalled in re-initialization until the LoggingWorker timeout cancelled it, surfacing as CancelledError then TimeoutError on the spend-counter path
Build the async cluster client with a 25s health_check_interval and socket_keepalive so an idle connection is PING-validated and reconnected before reuse, and expose both through the cluster kwarg allow-list so an explicit value from config still wins

* fix(ui): omit allowed_routes from key edit save when unchanged (#27553)
* fix(ui): omit allowed_routes from key edit save when unchanged
When a team admin opens Edit Settings on a key with key_type=AI APIs and
saves without changing anything, the UI re-sends the existing allowed_routes
value, which the backend's _check_allowed_routes_caller_permission gate
rejects for non-proxy-admins (LIT-2681).
Strip allowed_routes from the patch in handleSubmit when it deep-equals the
original keyData.allowed_routes. The backend treats absence as "leave alone,"
so no-op saves now succeed for non-admins. Admins explicitly editing the
field still send the new value.
* fix(ui): order-insensitive allowed_routes diff + cover null-original case
Address Greptile review:
- Switch the "is allowed_routes unchanged" check to a Set-based comparison so
a server-side reorder of the array doesn't register as a user edit and
re-trigger LIT-2681.
- Add two regression tests: (1) keyData.allowed_routes is null and the form
is untouched — patch should strip the field; (2) server returned routes in
a different order than the user originally entered — patch should still
recognize the value as unchanged.
* chore(ui): strip ticket refs and tighten comments in key edit fix
- Remove internal-tracker references from in-code comments
- Tighten the WHY comment in handleSubmit to two lines
- Drop redundant test-block comments — test names already describe the case
* fix(ui): annotate Set<string> generic in allowed_routes diff to fix tsc
* fix(guardrails): return HTTP 400 instead of 500 for guardrail-blocked requests
GuardrailRaisedException and BlockedPiiEntityError both lacked a
status_code attribute. When these exceptions reached the proxy
exception handler (getattr(e, 'status_code', 500)), the fallback
defaulted to HTTP 500 — making intentional guardrail blocks
indistinguishable from server errors and causing unnecessary client
retries.
Changes:
- Add status_code=400 (keyword-only) to GuardrailRaisedException
- Add status_code=400 (keyword-only) to BlockedPiiEntityError
- Update _is_guardrail_intervention() to recognize both exceptions
so downstream loggers record 'guardrail_intervened' instead of
'guardrail_failed_to_respond'
- Add 6 unit tests for default/custom status codes and getattr pattern
- Strengthen existing blocked-action test with status_code assertion

* refactor(_redis): return set from _get_redis_kwargs for O(1) lookup
Align _get_redis_kwargs() with the cluster helper by returning a set

* fix(_redis): restore Azure-specific kwargs in cluster kwargs set
The set-literal refactor of _get_redis_cluster_kwargs dropped four
LiteLLM-custom Azure keys (azure_redis_ad_token, azure_client_id,
azure_tenant_id, azure_client_secret) that the prior list form had
explicitly appended. Because they are not in RedisCluster's argspec,
they were silently stripped, breaking Azure IAM auth on cluster
clients. Re-add them to the explicit include set.

* fix(redis): cache GCP IAM token to prevent async event loop blocking
## Problem
GCPIAMCredentialProvider.get_credentials() calls _generate_gcp_iam_access_token
on every Redis connection establishment. This function performs synchronous HTTP
and gRPC calls (google-auth + google-cloud-iam) which block Python's asyncio
event loop while running.
Under concurrent load (e.g. connection pool warm-up, parallel health checks),
multiple connections are established simultaneously, each triggering an
independent blocking IAM token refresh. These refreshes serialise behind each
other inside the single-threaded event loop, causing individual Redis spans to
take 20-25 seconds instead of milliseconds.
Observed in production via Datadog APM: a single INCRBYFLOAT Redis span took
25.6 seconds (90% of a 28.4s trace), with GCP metadata + GenerateAccessToken
gRPC calls visible inside the span. This cascaded into aiohttp SocketTimeoutError
on upstream LLM API calls — not because the upstream was slow, but because the
event loop was frozen and the 30-second sock_read timer fired on a connection
that was never given CPU time.
## Fix
Add a module-level token cache (dict keyed by service account, value is
(token, expiry_monotonic)). _get_cached_gcp_iam_token() returns the cached
token on cache hit (no I/O), and refreshes only when expired using
double-checked locking so only one thread performs the network round-trip.
GCP IAM tokens are valid for 1 hour; the cache TTL is set to 55 minutes
(_GCP_IAM_TOKEN_TTL_SECONDS = 3300) to refresh safely before expiry.
The cache is shared across all GCPIAMCredentialProvider instances for the same
service account, so N concurrent Redis connections on the same pod share a
single token and avoid N concurrent blocking refreshes.
get_credentials_async() already used asyncio.to_thread (non-blocking), and is
updated to call _get_cached_gcp_iam_token so it also benefits from caching.
## Tests
- Updated existing test that expected a fresh token on every call to reflect
the new caching behaviour.
- Added tests for: cache hit (no redundant I/O), cache expiry and refresh,
and cache sharing across multiple provider instances.
- Added autouse fixture to clear the module-level cache between tests.

- _stream_mcp_asgi_response: add done callback to handler_task that puts
the EOF sentinel on body_queue when the task exits, preventing body_iter
from hanging forever if the handler raises after headers are sent.
- litellm_proxy_mcp_handler: replace raw get_mcp_toolset_by_name() DB call

hitting the DB on every responses-API request.
* fix(mcp): toolset access control, asyncio fix, and real unit tests
- server.py: _apply_toolset_scope now enforces that non-admin keys must
have the requested toolset_id in their mcp_toolsets grant list;
admin keys always bypass the check.
- mcp_management_endpoints.py: three access-control fixes:
* fetch_mcp_toolsets: non-admin keys with mcp_toolsets=None now
return [] instead of all toolsets (only admins get 'all' when
the field is absent)
* fetch_mcp_toolset: non-admin keys that haven't been granted the
requested toolset_id now get 403 instead of the full result
* add_mcp_toolset: duplicate toolset_name now returns 409 Conflict
instead of an opaque 500
- proxy_server.py: use asyncio.get_running_loop() instead of
get_event_loop() inside an already-running coroutine (Python 3.10+).
- test_mcp_toolset_scope.py: replace four hollow tests that only
asserted local variable properties with real tests that call the
production fetch_mcp_toolsets() and handle_streamable_http_mcp()
functions with mocked dependencies.
* fix(mcp): add mcp_toolsets to ObjectPermissionBase, fix multi-toolset overwrite, fix delete 404, allow standalone key toolsets

* fix(mcp): add @default(now()) to MCPToolsetTable.updated_at; fix test for non-admin toolset access
* fix: use UniqueViolationError import; guard _ensure_eof for error/cancel only
* fix(mcp): preserve mcp_access_groups in toolset scope, use shared Redis cache for toolset perms
- Remove mcp_access_groups=[] from _apply_toolset_scope (server.py) and the
responses API toolset path (litellm_proxy_mcp_handler.py). A key's access-group
grants remain valid even when the request is scoped to a single toolset; clearing
them silently revoked legitimate entitlements.
- Switch resolve_toolset_tool_permissions and get_toolset_by_name_cached to use
user_api_key_cache (Redis-backed DualCache in production) instead of per-instance
in-memory dicts. Cache entries are now shared across workers, eliminating the
per-worker stale-toolset-permission window flagged as a P1 by Greptile.
- Use union merge (set union of tool names per server) when applying toolset
permissions in the responses API path so direct-server tool restrictions are not
overwritten by toolset permissions.

* fix(redis): regenerate GCP IAM token per connection for async cluster clients
Async RedisCluster was generating the IAM token once at startup and
storing it as a static password. After the 1-hour GCP token TTL, any
new connection (including to newly-discovered cluster nodes) would fail
to authenticate.
Fix: introduce GCPIAMCredentialProvider that implements redis-py's
CredentialProvider protocol. It calls _generate_gcp_iam_access_token()
on every new connection, matching what the sync redis_connect_func
already does. async_redis.RedisCluster accepts a credential_provider
kwarg which is invoked per-connection.
* refactor(redis): move GCPIAMCredentialProvider to its own file
Extract GCPIAMCredentialProvider and _generate_gcp_iam_access_token
into litellm/_redis_credential_provider.py. _redis.py imports them
from there, keeping the public API unchanged.
* fix: address Greptile review issues
- GCPIAMCredentialProvider now inherits from redis.credentials.CredentialProvider
so redis-py's async path calls get_credentials_async() properly
- move _redis_credential_provider import to top of _redis.py (PEP 8)
- remove dead else-branch that silently no-oped (gcp_service_account from
redis_kwargs.get() was always None since it's popped by _get_redis_client_logic)
- remove mid-function 'from litellm import get_secret_str' inline import
- remove unused 'call' import from test_redis.py
