PR #37550 taught the backend unit-test shards to read the pull request's own
file list, but four required jobs were never wired to that gate and ran in full
on every pull request regardless of what it touched. A UI-only pull request
still paid roughly 17 runner-minutes of Python work it could not have affected,
and a backend-only one still installed and built the dashboard.
Lint and the MCP suite now take the existing backend decision. The dashboard
build and unit tests take a new ui decision, which tracks ui/ rather than
reusing client: client deliberately runs whenever the backend changes, because
it gates CircleCI's end-to-end jobs that drive a real proxy, while the build and
the unit tests cannot see the backend at all. CI config counts as ui-relevant
too, so a pull request that rewrites the dashboard workflows still exercises
them instead of shipping unvalidated.
The gate stays inside the job rather than moving to on.paths or to a job-level
condition on the shard callers. A workflow filtered out by on.paths never starts
and never reports, so a required check waits forever, and a skipped caller job
publishes its own name instead of the nested "<shard> / Run tests" the ruleset
requires. Both were measured before settling on this shape.
Three setup steps in the shard base and in the documentation job also leaked
past the gate, so a skipped shard still spent about twelve seconds installing uv
and restoring its cache. They now carry the same condition, and the documentation
job stops cloning litellm-docs when it has nothing to validate.
* chore(build): move the Admin UI toolchain to Node 24
Node 18 and Node 20 both reached end of life (2025-04-30 and 2026-04-30), and
the release images along with every CI lane were still building on them. Node 24
is the current LTS through 2028-04-30, so this moves the four UI build images,
the CircleCI lanes, and the four GitHub Actions workflows onto it
Node 24 also ships npm 11.17, which is the first line that implements the
min-release-age setting this repo already carries in its .npmrc files. On npm 10
the key is parsed and discarded, so the release-age gate has had no effect
regardless of its value. Tightening the dashboard's engines range and turning on
engine-strict makes an unsupported npm fail loudly rather than skip the gate
quietly, and a new step in the UI build workflow probes an impossible cooldown
so an inert setting cannot pass unnoticed again
Node 24's bundled undici tightened its brand check on RequestInit.signal, which
rejects the AbortSignal jsdom installs and broke the two cases in
src/lib/http/api.test.ts that rebase a request onto a runtime base url. Under
jsdom the Request global comes from Node while AbortSignal comes from jsdom;
tests/jsdomFetchEnv.ts delegates to the jsdom environment and then restores
Node's native AbortController and AbortSignal so both come from one realm.
Upgrading jsdom does not address this, as jsdom still does not own Request
The workflows now read ui/litellm-dashboard/.nvmrc instead of repeating a
literal, so the Node version has a single source of truth, and ui/Dockerfile is
pinned by digest to match the other three build images. The lockfile changes are
npm 11 normalising the engines range and dropping optional peer entries it no
longer records
* fix(build): point every Admin UI build script at .nvmrc
The enterprise Docker path was left on Node 18. docker/build_admin_ui.sh runs
only when enterprise/enterprise_ui/enterprise_colors.json is present, which it
never is in the OSS tree, so neither CI nor a default image build reaches it;
it pinned nvm to v18.17.0 and then built the dashboard, which now requires Node
24, so a customized enterprise image would have failed EBADENGINE
All three UI build scripts now resolve the version from
ui/litellm-dashboard/.nvmrc rather than carrying their own pin, so the Node
version has a single home across Docker, CI, and local builds. build_ui.sh was
on v20 and build_ui_custom_path.sh on v18.17.0
Also drops the dependency-cooldown probe from the UI build workflow. The
engines floor plus engine-strict already fails an unsupported npm loudly at
install time, so the probe was redundant, and treating any nonzero exit from a
live registry call as proof of enforcement made it unsound besides
The lint job lived in test-litellm-ui-build.yml (workflow name "UI Build
Check") next to the build job, so its check surfaced as the misleading
"UI Build Check / frontend-lint" even though it does prettier, eslint, lint
budgets, and knip, not building. Split it into test-litellm-ui-lint.yml
(name "UI Lint") so the check reads "UI Lint / frontend-lint". The build
workflow keeps only build-ui; the lint job (including the knip step) moves
over unchanged.
Note for whoever manages branch protection: this renames the lint required-
check context from "UI Build Check / frontend-lint" to
"UI Lint / frontend-lint"; update the required-check entry so PRs don't strand.
knip was producing garbage locally and was never wired into CI, so nobody
trusted it. Two structural problems: it silently degrades when deps are
missing (a partial worktree install flagged all 436 test files as unused),
and its config had blind spots that surfaced as false positives.
Fixes so a knip run means something:
- Register every playwright config (serverRootPath + migration variants), not
just the main one. serverRootPath.config.ts is invoked via --config in
test_server_root_path.yml, which knip can't see; it was falsely flagged as
an unused file
- Treat src/components/ui/** as entry points. These are shadcn design-system
primitives, intentionally part of the palette before every one is consumed;
knip was flagging not-yet-used ones (e.g. select.tsx) as dead files and
their sub-exports as unused. Marking the directory as the design-system
surface is the correct fix, not deleting components someone is about to use
- Declare @ant-design/icons as a direct dependency. It was imported in ~198
files but only resolved via antd hoisting, so every one showed up as an
"unlisted dependency"
- Add an explicit vitest plugin block so test-file classification no longer
rides on auto-detection
- Stage severities via rules: gate the now-clean categories (files,
dependencies, unlisted, unresolved) as errors and keep exports/types/
duplicates as warnings, so CI enforces what's at zero today while the
remaining findings ratchet down in follow-ups
- Run npm run knip in the frontend-lint CI job, which installs with npm ci so
it never sees a partial tree
knip now exits 0 with the gated categories clean
* fix(ci): point OSS contributor workflows to litellm_oss_staging
Workflow triggers and guard error messages incorrectly referenced litellm_oss_branch; update them to the branch we actually use for external contributions.
* fix(ci): include test-rust.yml in litellm_oss_staging rename

* feat(ui): track frontend lint counts in a committed snapshot
Persist the eslint budget-rule counts (no-explicit-any, complexity,
max-depth) to eslint-metrics.json so the trend is queryable straight
from git history and can later feed a dashboard. A CI drift check
regenerated from the same lint report keeps the snapshot honest, so a
PR that shifts a count has to run npm run lint:metrics and commit it
* fix(ui): harden lint-metrics drift check and eslint failure handling
Make the drift comparison symmetric over the union of committed and
actual keys so a phantom rule left in eslint-metrics.json (for example
after a rule is dropped from eslint-budgets.json) is caught instead of
silently passing. Only swallow eslint's lint-errors exit code in the
generator and rethrow anything else, so a fatal eslint failure surfaces
its real output rather than a confusing ENOENT on the missing report
Switch the zizmor check to fail on any finding at medium severity or
above (advanced-security off, min-severity medium, annotations on) so it
can be promoted to a required check, and pin the engine to zizmor 1.24.1
through zizmor-action v0.5.6 for deterministic runs.
Clear the findings that were outstanding so the check passes: correct
mismatched action pin version comments, scope the proxy endpoint
workflow's id-token and pull-requests permissions to the jobs that use
them, and mark the server-root-path docker build as non-publishing while
dropping its shared gha build cache.
* ci(ui): add frontend-lint job enforcing prettier and eslint on changed files
Lints only the files a PR adds or modifies under ui/litellm-dashboard,
so new and touched code must be prettier-clean and eslint-clean while the
existing tree is grandfathered. Skips cleanly when a PR touches no
lintable UI files. This lets us adopt the formatters incrementally
without a repo-wide reformat
* ci(ui): write frontend-lint file lists to $RUNNER_TEMP
Keep the prettier/eslint changed-file lists out of the checkout dir so
they cannot collide with a future source file of the same name
* lint(ui): baseline existing eslint findings so only new ones block
Capture the current error-level eslint findings (318 across 183 files)
in a committed suppressions baseline via eslint --suppress-all. Every
rule stays at its error severity, so any newly introduced violation
fails the frontend-lint gate, while the existing tree is grandfathered;
touching a legacy file never forces fixing its pre-existing issues. CI
runs eslint with --pass-on-unpruned-suppressions so that fixing a
baselined issue does not fail on a now-stale suppression, and the
generated baseline is prettier-ignored since eslint owns its format.
Burn the baseline down over time with eslint --prune-suppressions
* lint(ui): enforce a count budget for explicit any
Make @typescript-eslint/no-explicit-any a warning and cap the total
instead of hard-blocking each new one. A frontend-lint step counts the
repo-wide explicit any and fails only when it exceeds the committed
budget in eslint-any-budget.json. max starts at 2031, ten above the
current 2021, so the next ten land as warnings and the build fails once
that headroom is gone. Lower max over time toward target to ratchet the
count down. New anys still surface as warnings on changed files via the
normal eslint step
* lint(ui): enable zero-cost rules no-var, no-self-assign, react/no-danger
These have no existing violations, so they need no baseline; turning them
on purely blocks new instances. react/no-danger guards against new
dangerouslySetInnerHTML (XSS), no-var enforces let/const, and
no-self-assign catches self-assignment typos. no-debugger is already
enforced by the recommended preset
* lint(ui): add baselined complexity rules
Enable complexity:20, max-depth:4, max-params:4, max-nested-callbacks:4,
with thresholds set near the codebase p99 so only genuine outliers are
flagged. The 272 existing over-threshold functions are grandfathered in
the suppressions baseline; new over-threshold functions block. Lower the
thresholds over time to ratchet complexity down. max-lines-per-function
is intentionally left off since React components are legitimately long
* lint(ui): ban new raw fetch, standardize on React Query
Add a no-restricted-syntax rule flagging bare fetch() calls, pointing
contributors at React Query (@tanstack/react-query). The rule is not
exempted anywhere, including the already-bloated networking.tsx, so all
331 existing fetch calls are grandfathered but no new ones can be added
there or elsewhere. New data access goes through React Query, and the
networking layer can be migrated out and pruned from the baseline over
time
* lint(ui): ban new @tremor/react imports
Add a no-restricted-imports rule flagging imports from @tremor/react so
tremor is phased out rather than spread further. The 232 existing tremor
imports are grandfathered in the baseline; new ones block and point at
antd. Migrate components off tremor and prune the baseline over time

Raise max from 2031 to 2040, giving ~19 of slack over the current 2021

Generalize the explicit-any budget into a shared lint-budget mechanism:
eslint-budgets.json maps a rule to {max, target} and check-lint-budgets.mjs
counts each across the repo and fails when a count exceeds its max.
complexity (129, max 140) and max-depth (61, max 70) now use the same
slack-plus-counter model as explicit-any (2021, max 2040): they warn
per-file and the build only fails if the repo-wide total crosses the

Required test-unit-* and related workflows only triggered on PRs targeting
main, so feature PRs routed through litellm_internal_staging or
litellm_oss_branch never dispatched the full suite. Branch protection
reported BLOCKED even when CircleCI was green.
Expand pull_request and push branch filters to also match
litellm_internal_staging, litellm_oss_branch, and "litellm_**" (using **
so branch names containing "/" also match).
* chore: harden npm supply chain — pin overrides, enforce npm ci, add ignore-scripts
Replace open-ended >= version overrides with exact pins matching lockfile
versions across all 6 package.json files. Remove dead overrides for packages
not present in lockfiles. Switch CI and devcontainer from npm install to
npm ci for deterministic lockfile-based installs.
Add .npmrc to all 7 JS project directories with ignore-scripts=true (blocks
postinstall RAT vectors like the axios@1.14.1 supply chain attack) and
min-release-age=3d (refuses packages published <3 days ago, requires npm
>=11.10). Remove Yarn-only resolutions field from docs/my-website.
