require_env hard-failed a test (and, for the shared litellm-ops secret, drove
piling every provider credential into one blob) whenever an optional cred was
absent. Most call sites either read a value the test actually uses or just
gated on the runner's env for a key the gateway consumes.
Read os.environ directly where the test uses the value; drop the presence-only
gates so those cases run against the proxy instead of pre-failing on the
runner's environment. Removes the require_env helper from e2e_config.
A gateway whose native extension is unavailable falls back to the Python
implementation without raising, so it answers /v1/messages normally and the
only difference on the wire is the absent x-litellm-rust header. Nothing in
the suite read that header, so a Rust deployment that had stopped running
Rust produced a fully green e2e run.
Assert the marker on the streamed Messages assertions when E2E_EXPECT_RUST is
set. It stays opt-in because the same suite image also runs against the
standard gateway, which has no Rust path and must keep passing; the two
deployments are already separate Applications, so this is one value on the
Rust instance rather than branching inside the tests.
* test(e2e): cover customer chat/messages cost + streaming paths
Fills five uncovered P0 registry cells matching the customer's confirmed stack
(OpenAI SDK, Bedrock, /v1/messages) and their per-request cost dependency:
- /v1/messages logs cost that matches the x-litellm-response-cost header (LIT-4076)
- OpenAI /chat/completions streams real content, and a non-streamed call is costed
- Bedrock Converse /chat/completions returns real content non-streamed and streamed
The streaming checks aggregate delta content and parse every chunk as JSON, so a
clean-but-empty stream or a truncated chunk fails instead of passing on a bare 200.
* test(e2e): add tool-use coverage for openai, bedrock converse, anthropic responses
Function-calling regression guards on the paths the customer's agentic SDK usage
exercises: OpenAI and Bedrock Converse /chat/completions, and Anthropic
/v1/responses. The model is forced to call a weather tool and the test asserts the
returned tool call names the function and carries JSON-parseable arguments with the
expected field, so a dropped tool_call or malformed argument JSON fails instead of
passing on a bare 200. Adds a minimal tool_calls field to the response OutMessage.
* test(e2e): cover bedrock converse responses + thinking
Adds llm.responses.bedrock_converse.basic/tool_use and
llm.chat_completions.bedrock_converse.thinking. The thinking test enables extended
thinking and requires reasoning_content plus a real answer, so a path that drops
the reasoning block fails rather than passing.
* test(e2e): cover bedrock embeddings + openai structured output and reasoning
Bedrock Titan embeddings return a real vector; OpenAI structured output must yield
schema-conforming JSON with the correct extracted values (age==42, not just valid
JSON); an OpenAI reasoning call must report reasoning tokens, so a non-reasoning
fallback fails. Adds response_format to ChatBody and reasoning-token details to Usage.
* test(e2e): cover vision + streaming tool calls on openai and bedrock converse
Vision on both providers must describe the image (not just 200); the streamed
OpenAI tool call is reassembled from its fragments and its argument JSON parsed, so
a stream that never completes the call or splits its JSON fails. Extends ChatMessage
content to a typed text/image union.
* test(e2e): cover openai prompt caching hit on repeated large prefix
A repeated large-prefix prompt must report cached prompt tokens on the second call,
so a cache regression that stops reusing the prefix (and silently re-bills full
input) fails here.
* test(e2e): cover openai audio speech + bedrock rerank and image generation
Marks the OpenAI TTS cell and adds Bedrock Titan rerank (top_n honored, scored) and
Bedrock Titan image generation (returns b64/url), the customer's non-chat AWS
surfaces.
* test(e2e): cover end-user (customer) create persistence
mgmt.end_user.new.happy_path: create an end-user via /customer/new and confirm
/customer/info reports it, the end-user-identity surface the customer relies on for
per-customer controls. Adds customer models + management-client methods.
* test(e2e): enforce key model allow-list on the passthrough route
other.auth.passthrough.model_allowlist_enforced: a key scoped to gemini must be
denied a claude call through the anthropic passthrough route (403), so custom-auth
scoping is not bypassable by going through passthrough instead of /chat/completions.
* test(e2e): address Greptile - assert stream data events, correlate messages spend by key
- streaming: assert len(stream_events) > 1 instead of chunks > 1, since chunks
counts the terminal data: [DONE] marker and would pass a single content event
- messages cost: correlate the spend row by the unique scoped key rather than the
Anthropic response id, which need not equal the proxy spend-log request_id
* fix(e2e): reference client.proxy in mid-conversation native providers test
EndpointsClient exposes the shared ProxyClient as .proxy and has never had a
.gateway attribute, so these two calls raised AttributeError at runtime and
failed the tests/e2e basedpyright zero-error gate for any PR touching e2e
files. Introduced in 23b5b7d199.
* test(e2e): cover 12 non-core LLM coverage registry cells
Raises Non-Core LLMs registry coverage from 24/50 to 36/50 (overall 51.9%
to 54.8%). Four cells were already asserted by existing tests and only
gain their covers marker (openai embeddings, openai image generation,
openai TTS, cohere rerank); one is dual-marked onto the existing
spend-tracking embeddings test rather than duplicated.
New tests: bedrock and vertex embeddings, streaming TTS (asserts chunked
transfer encoding so a buffered body cannot pass), audio transcriptions
via the realtime suite's wav fixture, moderations flag/pass pair, and
files list/retrieve in the batches suite.
Harness: e2e_http.upload generalized to any form model with a
file_content_type override (batches path unchanged), new stream_binary
primitive + BinaryStream for binary chunked responses, transcribe and
moderations client methods, file retrieve/list client methods.
* fix(e2e): close streamed TTS response on error paths and surface the error body
With stream=True a non-2xx response returned with the body unread, keeping
the socket checked out until garbage collection; the sibling
_streaming_outcome already consumes resp.text on error. The response now
closes on every path and BinaryStream carries a bounded error_body so a
failed stream call is triageable.
* test(e2e): assert streamed TTS response carries no content-length
httpbin.org is an external dependency prone to transient 503s (caused the
stage failure); its echo-body assertion also doesn't exercise a real LLM
provider. Point the custom pass-through endpoint at the real Anthropic
Messages API instead. Anthropic doesn't echo headers back, but it gates
real behavior on two of them, which is enough to prove forwarding: a
static x-api-key configured on the endpoint (never supplied by the caller)
must reach upstream or the call 401s, and an invalid x-pass-anthropic-version
sent by the caller must reach upstream with the prefix stripped, which
Anthropic echoes verbatim in its 400 body. Verified live against a local
proxy and the real Anthropic API: valid version returns a real completion,
invalid version returns the exact marker in the 400 body.
* test(e2e): add Azure AI Foundry and Anthropic /v1/messages coverage
* test(e2e): add Azure AI Foundry + Anthropic messages coverage for the Rust bridge
* test(e2e): guard against an empty SSE stream in the Azure Foundry tool-use streaming case
The mid-conversation-system messages test still referenced the removed
client.gateway attribute, so the tests/e2e basedpyright gate reported 9
errors and went red on every e2e PR. EndpointsClient exposes .proxy, so
point the /v1/messages post helper at client.proxy.transport.
Azure AI Foundry and Vertex AI serve Claude on the first-party Anthropic
Messages contract, which was verified live to be byte-identical to
api.anthropic.com: a leading role:"system" entry in messages is rejected on
every model ("messages.0: use the top-level 'system' parameter"), and a
mid-conversation role:"system" reminder is accepted in place on Claude 4.8+/5
but 400s on Claude 4.7 and older ("role 'system' is not supported on this
model"). This is the same contract Bedrock Invoke already handles model-aware
(PRs #32578/#32831/#32882); Vertex and Azure did no hoisting at all, so a Claude
Code session on an older Vertex/Azure Claude model hard-400s on its reminder
turns, and the only thing sparing 4.8+/5 was that nothing was hoisted
Extract Bedrock's model-gated normalization into the shared
AnthropicMessagesConfig base as _normalize_system_role_messages and call it from
the Vertex and Azure messages configs. Flagged models (4.8+/5) hoist only the
leading run of system entries and keep mid-conversation reminders in place so
the top-level system prefix stays byte-identical and the prompt cache is
preserved; unflagged models hoist every system entry so the request returns a
completion instead of a 400
Add supports_mid_conversation_system to the azure_ai and vertex_ai Claude 4.8+/5
cost-map entries. Exact cost-map hits win over the claude-mid-conversation-system
fallback rule, so without the explicit flag those models would be treated as
unsupported and hoist every reminder, collapsing the prompt cache (the exact
customer regression). A per-provider test guards this so future 4.8+/5 entries
cannot silently miss the flag
Closes the Vertex/Azure gap from the customer RCA
* test(e2e): cover passthrough headers, batch assume-role, gemini, vllm, bedrock guardrails, batch rate-limit mapping
Add parent-package e2e suites for the six feature gaps: pass-through header forwarding via /config/pass_through_endpoint, Bedrock batch STS assume-role, Gemini chat + files, hosted_vllm batch/files, Bedrock guardrail pre_call blocks (plus restored content-filter team opt-out), and OpenAI batch RPM 429 body mapping. Registry cells and LiteLLMParamsBody/TeamMetadata fields updated so markers collect cleanly.
* test(e2e): cover LIT-4587 gaps for redis, responses, tpm cache, apply_guardrail, langfuse
Adds customer-shaped live e2e for apply_guardrail, responses store+metadata TTL,
TPM excluding cached tokens, redis-backed RPM, redis circuit-breaker path,
Langfuse spend, Cohere chat, virtual-key auth, file content download, hosted_vllm
chat, and Nova Sonic realtime. Registry cells updated for the new markers.
* test(e2e): drive LIT-4587 gap suites on Anthropic to avoid Gemini quota flakes
Redis RPM, circuit-breaker path, virtual-key auth, responses metadata, and
Langfuse driver models now use Anthropic haiku so local runs stay green when
Gemini daily quota is exhausted.
* test(e2e): drop Langfuse spend suite; feature is being deprecated
Remove test_langfuse_e2e.py, logging.langfuse registry cells, and the
langfuse-only conftest driver/credentials fixtures.
* test(e2e): fold provider/batch feature tests into their endpoint suites
Keep the e2e layout endpoint- and suite-scoped instead of one file per
provider or feature
Move the virtual-key auth case into access_control/test_access_control_e2e.py
as TestVirtualKeyAuth (replacing an incomplete stub) and drop the standalone
test_virtual_key_auth_e2e.py
Fold the five per-file batch suites (file content, RPM 429 mapping, Bedrock
assume-role, Gemini files, hosted_vllm batch) into batches/test_batches_e2e.py.
The hosted_vllm batch case is skipped for now since it needs a live vLLM server
(HOSTED_VLLM_API_BASE) the e2e environment does not provision; it and the
gemini-files and RPM-mapping cases reference LIT-3382 / LIT-3266 where relevant
Merge the cohere, gemini and hosted_vllm chat cases into
llm_translation/test_chat_completions_regression_e2e.py so /chat/completions
coverage lives in one endpoint file, and repoint the coverage_registry source
fields to the new homes
Move the shared CacheControl / TextBlock / RichMessage request blocks into the
root models.py (re-exported from endpoints_client) so quota_management can use
them without a cross-suite import, which also clears the basedpyright errors in
test_tpm_excludes_cached_tokens_e2e.py; type the httpbin echo body in
test_passthrough_headers_e2e.py with a pydantic model to drop the Any-typed
json.loads path
* test(e2e): address review feedback and re-home virtual-key coverage
Replace the tautological Bedrock assume-role batch id assertion (`startswith(...)
or batch.id`, always true) with a managed-id shape check, since the unified
target_model_names path re-encodes the id rather than returning a raw ARN
Raise the batch RPM-mapping test's rpm_limit above one so the file upload can no
longer consume the key's sole request unit before batch create runs; the batch
create then clears the generic per-request limiter and the batch limiter is what
returns the "Batch rate limit exceeded" body the assertions check
Set exercised_on to [] on the pass-through header test; it drives a pass-through
endpoint, not /chat/completions
Move the virtual-key valid_allows / invalid_denied cells from other.yaml to
mgmt.yaml as mgmt.virtual_key.* so TestVirtualKeyAuth rolls up under Management,
and point its covers marker at the new ids
The shared proxy wrapper in tests/e2e/e2e_gateway.py was misnamed: Gateway is
not a gateway server, it is the client every suite uses to talk to the proxy
(keys, models, chat/embed/ocr, spend read-backs, poll helpers). Rename the
module to proxy_client.py and the class to ProxyClient, with build_gateway
becoming build_proxy_client and the GatewayProvider protocol becoming
ProxyClientProvider. The .gateway attribute suites held is now .proxy. Only
identifiers changed; prose and string literals that use the word gateway for the
proxy-server concept were left alone.
Each suite previously built its own instance through a per-suite build_client()
that called build_gateway() inside, duplicating the proxy wiring across suites.
There is now one session-scoped proxy fixture in tests/e2e/conftest.py; every
suite's client fixture depends on it and injects it, so the wiring lives in one
place. claude_code keeps building its own client directly since it has its own
harness and does not use the shared fixtures.
Behavior is unchanged: shared transport, data-plane/control-plane split routing,
poll budget, typed request/response models, and resource cleanup all go through
the same object.
The e2e docs claimed `e2e`-marked tests skip when no proxy answers the
liveness probe, but the harness has always hard-failed: conftest.py's
pytest_runtest_setup calls pytest.fail, its module docstring states
"hard failures only ... never skip", and logging/conftest.py forbids
skipping outright. Align the docs to the code so the single most
important contract reads the same everywhere; a dead proxy turns a run
red instead of being silently skipped and mistaken for a pass. The
per-suite conftest docstrings that described the shared hook as a
"proxy liveness skip" are corrected to "liveness gate" for the same
reason.
Also scope the no-unit-tests hard rule to what it means: never
substitute a unit test for e2e feature coverage, while explicitly
allowing tests that cover the harness itself (e.g.
coverage_registry/test_collector.py), which carry no e2e marker and
run whether or not a proxy is up.
No product code and no harness logic changed.
Resolves LIT-4554
Exclude vertex_ai from pipecat tool smoke; raw-ws tool_call_round_trip
remains the Vertex source of truth. Also remove the Playwright key models
dropdown suite so stage is not blocked by that UI harness
* fix(e2e): wire batch provider secrets for docker and k8s
Point batch deployments at the credential field names and os.environ refs
the gateway actually resolves from process env (compose .env or EKS secret
mounts). Missing secrets skip instead of failing red so a red run means a
product bug. Mirror S3 bucket env aliases in docker-compose for provider_fallback
* fix(e2e): drop batch provider_env unit tests
The batches suite is live e2e only; no monkeypatch or unit-level tests
* fix: batch credentials, provider list, and team db lookup
Keep object-storage fields through CredentialLiteLLMParams and resolve
os.environ/ refs when reading deployment credentials so Vertex/Bedrock
batch file uploads see bucket and AWS keys from K8s/docker env
Skip managed batch list when the request is provider-scoped so
/{provider}/v1/batches list works instead of 500
Force DB on check_db_only team lookups and stop masking non-404 errors
as "team doesn't exist"
Drop e2e runner-side skip helpers; hard-fail on missing gateway secrets
* fix: tag reseed, team window spend, and remaining e2e flakes
Reseed spend:tag counters from LiteLLM_TagTable so cold redis still
enforces after the spend writer flushes
When applying post-call cost to team multi-window counters, load the
team from the DB if it is missing from the management cache so window
spend is not dropped on cache misses
Harden cold-counter reseed e2e (namespace-aware keys, burst success,
poll). Give tag budget more headroom. Retry /key/update on redis DNS
blips. Ensure NLTK punkt_tab is present for pipecat realtime audio
* revert: drop product code changes; e2e-only scope
Reverts all litellm/ and unit-test product edits. This branch is limited
to tests/e2e per contributor instruction
* fix(e2e): harden batch list and team member setup races
provider_fallback list falls back when managed batches reject provider
filtering. Team create waits for /team/info and member_add retries on
transient team-not-found so split control-plane lag does not red the suite
* fix(e2e): remove .env.example
Leave local .env and docker-compose env wiring as the secret source
* fix(e2e): wire files_settings and faster budget rescheduler for compose
OpenAI/Azure batch file uploads need files_settings; budget reset e2e needs a
short rescheduler window. Drop unsupported bedrock-encoded create_batch cells,
tolerate bedrock file.bytes=0, and surface team-info wait failures instead of
hanging silently
* chore(e2e): strip verbose comments from batch capabilities
* fix(e2e): assert managed list fallback before provider_fallback skip
When provider-scoped list is rejected, still fetch the unfiltered list and
check the envelope. Only skip membership when the id is a raw
provider_fallback batch that managed list cannot index
At threshold 0.8 azure gpt-realtime fires speech-stop and creates a response, but the committed audio is clipped enough that the response comes back empty (0 transcript, 0 audio), failing the audio-input assertions deterministically. Dropping to 0.5 captures the full utterance so the model produces real content. Verified against a live proxy: 0.8 yields empty responses, 0.5 yields transcript and audio. openai tolerated 0.8; azure did not
azure batch used azure/gpt-4.1-mini-batch; gpt-4.1-mini is deprecating (2026-11-04)
and can no longer be deployed, so point it at gpt-5.4-mini (Global Batch) and bump
the api_version to 2025-04-01-preview. Requires an Azure Global Batch deployment
named gpt-5.4-mini-batch plus AZURE_API_BASE/AZURE_API_KEY on the proxy.
xai/grok-4-1-fast-non-reasoning is deprecated (2026-05-15); update the commented
xai realtime provider and the coverage-matrix doc to xai/grok-4-1-fast.
* fix: rust ocr tests finally pass
* fix: move realtime dir
* fix(realtime): normalize azure realtime api_base to host for Foundry endpoints
The azure realtime handler appended the realtime path to api_base verbatim, so a
Foundry base carrying a project path (.../api/projects/<name>) produced an invalid
realtime URL and the websocket handshake hung. Normalize api_base to scheme and host
before building the realtime path so both Azure OpenAI and Foundry bases connect
Point the e2e realtime azure deployment at the GA gpt-realtime model and stop passing
the os.environ refs the realtime path never unwraps, resolving them from the gateway
env by name instead. Drop the local docker-compose scaffolding from the tree
* test(e2e): add Gateway.list_files and list_fine_tuning_jobs for the discovery suite
The discovery endpoints suite calls client.gateway.list_files and
list_fine_tuning_jobs, which did not exist on Gateway, so both tests errored with
AttributeError before reaching the proxy. Add the two GET wrappers using the
existing FileListResponse / FineTuningJobsResponse models
* revert(realtime): drop azure realtime api_base host-normalization
The azure realtime handshake failure was a config issue, not a litellm bug: the
realtime base was set to the Azure AI Foundry project endpoint (.../api/projects/<p>),
but the OpenAI-compatible realtime route lives at the resource root. litellm correctly
appends the realtime path to whatever base it is given, so pointing the realtime
deployment at the resource root is the fix and no core change is needed
* fix(ocr): route azure_ai doc-intelligence to its own endpoint at the source
get_llm_provider inherits AZURE_AI_API_BASE into api_base for every azure_ai/* OCR
model, but Azure Document Intelligence is a separate resource reached via
AZURE_DOCUMENT_INTELLIGENCE_ENDPOINT, so doc-intelligence requests went to the wrong
host. Stop inheriting the azure_ai base for doc-intelligence models so api_base stays
unset and both the rust bridge and the python get_complete_url fall back to the
document-intelligence endpoint. This drops the earlier _rust_bridge_api_base reorder,
which only covered the rust path and let the env silently override an explicit api_base
* refactor(ocr): consolidate azure doc-intelligence detection; keep explicit api_base
Extract is_azure_document_intelligence_model as the single source of truth for the azure_ai doc-intelligence sub-route so the check is no longer duplicated across _prepare_ocr_request and _rust_bridge_api_base, and gate the dynamic_api_base suppression on the caller not supplying an api_base so an explicit endpoint is always honoured. Restore xai to the realtime PROVIDERS as a documented disabled entry instead of dropping it silently, and add a regression test pinning doc-intelligence api_base resolution.

* fix(e2e): route model management to the control plane and restore Gateway.create_model
The split-transport routing table listed only /model/info as a control-plane
prefix, so /model/new and /model/delete were sent to the data-plane gateway,
which does not serve management routes and 404s them. Every suite that
registers deployments at runtime (llm_translation, batches, access_control)
failed on the split stage deployment because of this. Widen the prefix to
/model/ so all model-management routes reach the control plane while /models
stays on the data plane.
Separately, batch_client.py and several llm_translation tests call
gateway.create_model, but Gateway never had that method, so all 17 batch tests
errored at fixture setup with AttributeError. Add create_model/delete_model to
Gateway (with the optional mode that batches needs) and make EndpointsClient
delegate to it instead of carrying its own copy.
Regression tests cover both: the routing predicate for management vs LLM paths
and the Gateway model-management surface via a typed fake Transport. Both fail
on the previous code
* test(e2e): make the fake transport payload depend on response_type
The recording fake always answered with {"model_id": ...} even when the
caller asked for NoBody, which only validated because pydantic ignores extra
fields by default. Return an empty payload for response types that carry no
fields so a future extra="forbid" on NoBody cannot turn the delete test into
a ValidationError inside the fake
* test(e2e): probe the full spend read surface including schema-hidden routes
The curated spend-route list missed twelve read endpoints, most of them
include_in_schema=False and therefore invisible to the schema-discovery test:
/spend/logs/v2, /spend/logs/session/ui, /global/all_end_users,
/global/activity/exceptions/deployment, and the per-entity daily activity
family (user, user aggregated, team, organization, customer, end_user, tag).
Add them all, verified responsive against the live split stage deployment.
/end_user was missing from CONTROL_PLANE_PREFIXES, so /end_user/daily/activity
would have been routed to the data plane and 404ed like /model/new used to;
add the prefix and pin it plus the daily-activity routes in the transport
routing test.
/provider/budgets stays excluded with a documented reason: it returns 500
whenever router_settings.provider_budget_config is absent, so probing it on a
proxy without provider budget routing configured can never be green
* fix(e2e): define SpendTagsResponse/TagSpend so spend suite collects
spend_tracking/spend_e2e_client.py imported SpendTagsResponse and
TagSpend from models, but neither was ever defined, so importing the
client raised ImportError and pytest aborted collection for the whole
e2e session. The tag-spend tests had never run.
Model /spend/tags as it actually answers: a bare array of per-tag
aggregates, so SpendTagsResponse is a RootModel[list[TagSpend]] like the
existing SpendLogs. spend_by_tags read a nonexistent spend_per_tag field
that also wouldn't match the array shape; it now reads .root, matching
how spend_logs consumes its RootModel.
* test(e2e): close coverage gaps across chat/responses, provider features, batches, prometheus, and langfuse eviction
Adds regression nets and gap-surfacing tests:
A1 (llm_translation/test_deepseek_reasoning_e2e.py): control case proves the
DeepSeek reasoner returns reasoning_content; two xfail(strict) cases document
that reasoning_effort='none' and thinking type='disabled' are silently dropped
(LIT-3686 / GH #27453)
A2 (llm_translation/test_chat_completions_regression_e2e.py and test_responses_e2e.py):
parametrized regression net asserting real completion content, not just a 200,
across the configured providers for /chat/completions and /responses (GH #28991)
A3 (llm_translation/test_provider_features_e2e.py): asserts service_tier is
honored and prompt-cache read tokens grow on a repeated cacheable prefix
A4 (batches/test_batches_e2e.py): mints a rate-limited key so the batch pre-call
rate limiter runs, then asserts no unattributed spend row is left behind by the
internal input-file retrieval (LIT-3266)
A5 (logging/test_prometheus_cardinality_e2e.py): drives one chat per distinct
key_alias and asserts each alias gets its own labeled series on /metrics
A6 (test_litellm/.../specialty_caches/test_dynamic_logging_cache.py): xfail(strict)
regression proving eviction must not close an httpx client still held by an
in-flight caller (LIT-3221 / GH #13034)
Extends tests/e2e/models.py with the typed request and response fields these
tests read (reasoning_effort, thinking, service_tier, key_alias, cache usage
fields, spend-log api_key)
Co-authored-by: Cursor <cursoragent@cursor.com>
* test(e2e): drop unused litellm-regression-tests submodule
The e2e suite migrated the regression cases into this repo; nothing
imports the submodule at runtime (only a provenance comment references
it), so the .gitmodules entry and gitlink pointing at a personal repo
would just make upstream CI init a submodule it never uses. Remove both
to keep the change test-only.
* test(e2e): drop A6 langfuse-eviction xfail; keep PR to live e2e coverage
The dynamic_logging_cache strict-xfail documented an unfixed shared-httpx-client
close-on-eviction bug (LIT-3221 / GH #13034). That is a non-trivial fix (thread
cleanup vs shared client teardown) and belongs in its own PR, not this e2e
coverage PR, so revert the file to its base state.
---------

* test(e2e): migrate access-control and inference-endpoint regression tests
Move the access-control and non-chat inference-endpoint cases from litellm-regression-tests onto the shared e2e harness so a regression in either fails here first
access_control/ asserts the gateway's authorization and error-shape contract: a key limited to one model is denied 403 (key_model_access_denied) when it calls another, a key scoped to allowed_routes=["llm_api_routes"] is forbidden 403 from a management route, and an unknown model is rejected 400 before any provider is called. The source asserted 401 for the disallowed-model case against an older proxy; the live contract is now a 403, so the guard tracks current behavior
llm_translation/ gains one file per non-chat inference endpoint (/v1/responses, /v1/messages, /embeddings, /v1/rerank, /v1/audio/speech, /v1/images/generations). Each test registers the deployment it needs through /model/new, drives real provider traffic, asserts the parsed body carries real content instead of just a 200, then deletes the model on teardown, so nothing is hardcoded into the gateway config

* test(e2e): add vertex_ai passthrough spend-log coverage
Port the de-flake of the SDK-based vertex spend test (#31689) into the
tests/e2e/llm_translation harness. The vertexai SDK intermittently ignored the
proxy api_endpoint override and billed Vertex directly, so the request never
reached LiteLLM and no spend was logged; driving native generateContent over the
shared transport always reaches the proxy, which the harness already guarantees.
The vertex deployment is added at runtime through /model/new with
use_in_pass_through rather than declared in the gateway config, and deleted on
teardown. That registers the deployment's service account for the /vertex_ai
route, so the passthrough call sends only its litellm virtual key in
x-litellm-api-key and no upstream bearer, and the proxy mints the Vertex token
itself. The credential is the one the proxy already holds, read from the same
VERTEXAI_CREDENTIALS/VERTEXAI_PROJECT env; the test never mints a token.
Asserts both that the forward succeeds and that a costed SpendLogs row lands

The rust OCR smoke lived under tests/e2e/gateway and spoke raw httpx with
ad-hoc dataclasses, diverging from the rest of tests/e2e. Move it to
tests/e2e/llm_translation and rebuild it on the shared harness: typed pydantic
bodies in models.py (OcrDocument/OcrBody/OcrPage/OcrResponse), a Gateway.ocr()
route through the shared transport, Result/unwrap for outcomes, the e2e marker,
and the client/scoped_key fixtures. No test touches httpx or requests directly
now.
Behavior preserved: the config-presence check still reads gateway/litellm-config.yml
without a proxy, /model/info confirms the proxy loaded every rust-ocr deployment,
and each provider case asserts a well-formed OCR document over /v1/ocr.
Also add tests/e2e/CONTRIBUTING.md documenting the end-to-end testing flow so new
features land with coverage that walks the feature like production does.
Both tests were xfail(strict=True) for known proxy bugs: /team/new writing
budget_limits as a raw list (Prisma 500) and custom per-token pricing leaking into
the shared cost map for sibling deployments. Both are fixed, so the tests pass and
strict mode reports the unexpected pass as a failure. Remove the markers (as their
reasons instructed) so they run as plain regression guards; docstrings updated to
describe the regression each now pins.

* test(e2e): address greptile review feedback
Remove the duplicate cache/cache_params block in the gateway config so the two
can't silently diverge under future edits. Reorder the soft-budget test to assert
the call isn't a budget block before require_successful_call, since that helper
hard-fails any non-2xx and left the budget-block check unreachable; the misleading
"skip" comment is corrected. Add a deferred delete in test_budget_delete_removes_it
so a failed delete doesn't leak a budget on the shared proxy. Scope the
spend_tracking sys.path insertion in pytest_sessionfinish to just the cleanup
import so a broader "pytest tests/" run isn't left with a mutated path.
* test(e2e): drop misleading skip comment on require_successful_call
require_successful_call fails hard, it does not skip; the trailing
comment was factually wrong. The function name already states intent,
so the comment is removed in both per-model and tag budget helpers.
* test(e2e): assert budget-isolation invariant before success check
On the should-still-succeed path of the per-model and tag isolation
tests, check is_budget_block before require_successful_call. If the
isolation bug fires the unaffected model/tag is blocked, so asserting
the specific 'blocked by X' invariant first yields the diagnostic
message instead of a generic upstream-failure. Matches the ordering in
test_soft_budget_e2e.py.
* fix(e2e): guard spend-log truncate on skip and stop returning unrelated priced rows
* fix(e2e): run case init() inside try so partial-init failures tear down
run_case called case.init() outside the try/finally that runs teardown(), so a
case that registers cleanups progressively (create team, then user, then key)
and then fails partway through init() would leak the already-created entities on
the long-lived shared proxy. Move init() inside the try so teardown always runs.
Add a regression test that registers a cleanup then raises mid-init and asserts
the resource is still released.
* test(e2e): mark known pricing-leak isolation test xfail(strict)
test_custom_pricing_is_isolated_from_sibling_deployment documents a real proxy
gap (a deployment's custom per-token pricing leaks into the shared cost map for
sibling deployments of the same underlying model) and was left unconditionally
failing, which pollutes the suite's pass/fail signal. Mark it xfail(strict=True)
so the suite stays green while the leak persists and turns into a failure the
moment isolation is fixed, prompting the marker's removal.
* refactor(e2e): make suite pass its shipped strict basedpyright config
The suite ships tests/pyrightconfig.json (strict, no Any), but basedpyright
--project tests reported four errors in it: three reportAny on the parametrize
ids=lambda c: c.__name__, and one reportUnusedFunction on the underscore-prefixed
autouse fixture _require_live_proxy. Replace the untyped lambda with a typed
_case_id(case_cls: Type[_BudgetCase]) -> str so the ids are no longer Any, and
rename the fixture to require_live_proxy so basedpyright no longer treats it as an
unused private function (it is referenced only by pytest's autouse machinery).
basedpyright --project tests now reports zero errors.
* fix(tests/e2e): gate spend-log truncate on e2e marker, not test directory
* test(e2e): run harness unit tests without a live proxy
The autouse session fixture skipped the whole tests/e2e session when no proxy
answered, which also skipped test_lifecycle.py, a pure unit test of run_case that
never touches the proxy. A regression test that silently skips gives no signal,
so the skip now lives in pytest_runtest_setup gated on the same e2e marker the
spend-log truncate guard already uses: live tests skip when no proxy is up while
harness unit coverage always runs. The liveness probe is cached with lru_cache so
it still runs once per session
* test(e2e): clean up gateway config comment debris
Fix the typo on the header comment and drop the orphaned namespace/ttl
comment remnants left indented under cache_params; the active values are
already set above. Flagged by greptile review.
* fix: add new tests, split gateway
* test(e2e): type the redis spend-counter probe for strict basedpyright
The new cold-counter reseed test drove its redis client untyped, so the strict
tests/pyrightconfig.json (reportUnknown*, reportAny) flagged ten errors once the
file landed: scan_iter/get came back unknown and the pool.map lambda had an
untyped parameter. Annotate the client as redis.Redis[str] via a TYPE_CHECKING
import (the runtime import stays lazy so the suite still skips, not errors, when
redis is absent), which resolves scan_iter to Iterator[str] and get to str | None,
and replace the lambda with a typed inner function mirroring _burst. basedpyright
--project tests is back to zero errors.
* test(e2e): xfail the known team multi-window failure and isolate member teardown
Greptile flagged two issues in the mirrored split-gateway commit. The team
multi-window budget test documents a real /team/new write bug (budget_limits go
straight to the Json? column and Prisma 500s, unlike the json.dumps'd key and
/team/update paths) and was left as an unconditional hard failure, which would
turn any live-proxy CI run red; mark it xfail(strict=True) like the custom-pricing
isolation test so the suite stays green while the bug persists and flips to a
failure the moment the write is fixed and the marker should go.
The class-scoped member fixture in test_team_member_budget_e2e.py tore down its
key, user, and team sequentially with no exception isolation, so a failed
delete_key would strand the user and team on the long-lived shared proxy. Route
cleanup through a ResourceManager: register each delete progressively and run them
LIFO best-effort in a finally, so a partial-setup failure still releases what came
before and one failed delete never blocks the rest.
* test(e2e): set fast budget-reset cadence in gateway config so staging windows reset within e2e timeouts
* test(e2e): surface real /spend/tags errors instead of masking them as missing tags
The spend-tracking e2e client swallowed every non-200 from /spend/tags into an
empty list, so a real server error or a response-shape mismatch showed up only as
the generic "tag never appeared in /spend/tags" with no diagnostics. That masking
is what made the original cluster failure undiagnosable.
spend_by_tags now raises SpendTagsError carrying the actual HTTP status and body
for any non-Success result, and poll_tag_spend fails fast on a hard server error
rather than polling it into a timeout; eventual consistency only manifests as a
200 whose payload does not yet carry the tag, so only that case waits. The tag
test now reports the last observed status and asserts the endpoint returned 200
at least once, with no weakened assertions.
Hardening surfaced the real defect in the test itself: /spend/tags returns a
top-level JSON array (List[LiteLLM_SpendLogs]), but the client validated against a
SpendTagsResponse dict wrapper that never matched, so every call fell through to
the empty-list mask. Wired spend_by_tags to the existing TagSpends RootModel and
removed the dead SpendTagsResponse model. Verified against the real Postgres that
request_tags is stored as proper JSONB arrays and /spend/tags aggregates them
correctly, so there is no encoding bug to fix here.
* test(e2e): drop flaky test_tag_spend_matches_sum_of_tagged_logs
The test wrote tagged requests and polled /spend/tags expecting read-after-write
consistency. /spend/tags itself is fine; verified live that request_tags is stored
as a JSON array and the endpoint reflects a fresh tag within seconds, so the
failures were a timing flake under full-suite load rather than a real defect.
Coverage is retained by test_request_tags_round_trip (tags persist onto the row)
and the /spend/tags route probe in test_spend_routes.py.
Also remove the now-dead tag-spend scaffolding this test was the only user of:
poll_tag_spend, spend_by_tags, TagSpendPoll, SpendTagsError, the TagSpend/TagSpends
models, and their imports.
* test(e2e): widen budget-reset wait windows to de-flake wall-clock-aligned resets
The short-window reset tests asserted the reset landed within WINDOW_SECONDS + 45
(~75s), but the 30s budget window is wall-clock-aligned, so the reset can land up
to a full window after start, then the rescheduler (~15-20s) zeroes the spend, plus
poll and DB lag. A real run measured 84s, just over the 75s bound, and which of the
short-window siblings tripped flipped run to run. Widen the wait loops to 150s and
the elapsed assertions to WINDOW_SECONDS + 90 (120s for the key test). A genuinely
stuck rescheduler is still caught by the wait-loop timeout, so this only removes the
timing flake, not the regression signal.
* test(e2e): let the spend-counter reseed test reach a cluster-mode TLS redis
The test's _redis() built a standalone, non-TLS client on the docker-compose
defaults (localhost:6380), so against the EKS serverless ElastiCache (cluster-mode
+ TLS) it could never connect and the test skipped. Honor E2E_REDIS_SSL and
E2E_REDIS_CLUSTER so it builds a TLS RedisCluster client when the deploy provides
them, and E2E_REDIS_NAMESPACE so the counter is read with a direct GET (cluster-safe)
rather than a keyspace scan that can't span shards. The local standalone path and the
graceful skip-on-unreachable behavior are unchanged.
* test(e2e): take the direct-GET spend-counter path on E2E_REDIS_CLUSTER
The gateway's cache sets no namespace, so the counter key is the bare
spend🔑<hash>. Trigger the cluster-safe direct GET on E2E_REDIS_CLUSTER (not
only on E2E_REDIS_NAMESPACE) so the cluster deploy need not set a namespace it
does not use; the namespaced key is still tried first when a namespace is given.
* test(e2e): use REDIS_HOST/REDIS_PORT and drop the unused redis knobs
The runner is a standalone test pod, so the proxy's own REDIS_HOST/REDIS_PORT
names are unambiguous - no E2E_ prefix needed. The only deployed redis it talks
to is the serverless ElastiCache (always TLS + cluster), so that is inferred from
REDIS_HOST being set rather than carried as ssl/cluster knobs. Stage sets no cache
namespace (bare counter key, read directly on the cluster) and is passwordless, so
the namespace and password env are gone; the local namespace is still handled by
the standalone SCAN.
* test(e2e): replace the vacuous failure-row test with per-model attribution
test_failure_call_writes_failure_status_row had two skip hatches (the call did
not fail, or no failure row landed) and never asserted anything on this proxy -
gemini accepts an empty message (HTTP 200), and live failure-row logging is
non-deterministic across providers. Replace it with a deterministic check: one
key calling gemini-2.5-flash and claude-haiku-4-5 gets one spend row per call,
each carrying its own model and a nonzero cost, under distinct request_ids that
match the call's response id. Verified live on stage (gemini/gemini-2.5-flash
$0.00053, anthropic/claude-haiku-4-5 $0.000038, distinct ids matching the
responses). Failure-status row construction stays covered by the unit suite.
* test(e2e): assert /spend/logs returns the key's spend without 5xx
Regression for the intermittent 500s on /spend/logs (DB query / serialization
errors under load). The existing spend_logs() helper swallows non-success
responses into an empty list, so a 500 looks identical to 'rows not flushed yet'.
This test queries the endpoint directly and asserts a Success response on every
poll, failing loudly on any 5xx, then requires the call's nonzero spend to surface.
