Subject: [PATCH] Fix detect_binary test to work on Ubuntu (dash) sandboxes

`sh --version` exits non-zero on dash (Ubuntu default), so the test
only passed on macOS where sh is bash. Use `git` instead which
reliably supports --version on all platforms.
